Reports are emerging that Lathan received a 500k bribe to allow the fight to continue. Things like this only add a black eye to Boxing an some sort of check and balance must be created in order to prevent a single person from dictating if a fight happens or if the payoff is big enough.
You would think she would hate MMA but read below
You say it’s going to be harmful to people. How, specifically, will allowing live events of this sport in your state harm people?
Well, there’s different parts to that answer and when I answer one part of that question I extend it. Let me give you one example of what I consider the problem and that’s the unsavory, sordid, corrupt process for legalization of this. Just recently I asked an aide to look into the firing of the past chair of the State Athletic Commission, who was replaced by a woman (Melvina Lathan) who in fact had worked for Marc Ratner, who now has a primary interest in Ultimate Fighting. And this woman is going to be our primary regulator in New York State? What is the connection and who brought her into this position of getting this chair?
Her statement upon getting the position was about how she supports MMA, which I found very suspect. When I attended a meeting with her she demonstrated that she knew nothing about the sport. And yet her support for the sport was one of the first things that she focused on after being appointed. It’s that type of suspicious activity that really questions the sport. I think we’re down the road toward the corruption in boxing, and what happened to the fighters, the corruption in the sport.
so let me get this straight........as soon as the ring doctor Anthony Curreri was close to stopping the fight, a bribe was sent to Melvina lathan to allow the fight to continue?
I'm not even sure Mrs. Lathan was even at the fight and I'm curious as to when this bribe took place (prior to the fight or duing it)?
he's probably saying that she received 500k to give margarito the license. although i find it hard to believe since that's not how a commission works.

No source, so I'm calling BS. There is no way to even verify original poster's identity so as to add veracity to his/her claims.
exactly, hack journalism at its finest
Its sad the other commissioners are cashing in on thier powers of preventing fights. Think about it if you had the power to eliminate the sale of 20,000 + tickets don't:hail: you thin the promoter would knock on your door to let it go on.
what does it mean that she was paid 500k for the fight to continue? The fight did NOT continue and was stopped so am I missing something?
To let it take place at all~ the whole problems at the last minute then going behind closed doors for like two hours then deciding ok it is good to go.
Sorry its based on the Cotto vs Margarito II fight in new york. Im not surprised that keith Kizer of Nevada is pulling the same stunt with Berto vs Ortiz II.
