Jesus man, give the other side of the argument a little credence for God's sake. Fury's class, in all iterations. The intangibles are nailed on. But dude, this is George Foreman. George Foreman. You think big gangly Fury's gonna walk all over this ATG? It'd be a good fight for sure, and one I can't call. But dude. George. Fore. M. A...N
By the way, RJJ fought some mediocre fighters. You know that. Jones Toney was a good fight. Toney was a killer. A smooth, slick killer. With attitude. Back when we could understand what he was saying.
Roy Jones is legendary mainly because he boxes like a cartoon. Not to disparage, he's deadly like, and his achevments are great, unifcation against fellow P4Per James Toney. You have to understand Toney was the other ridiculous matrix like fighter of that era, this all before jumping weight categories to nab a version of heavyweight title from John Ruiz. I don't know his career inside out, but the point I want to make is that what makes Jones so undeniably appealing is his attractive style. It's poetry in motion man, forget the stats.
Sign me up for blacklisting this fool out of boxing.
Kept resigning with TR and was ok to coast his way to easy millions.
Leaves because they couldn’t turn his boring, dry, no personality ass into a PPV star.
I’m done reading about him, hope he loses in court and urging all promoters to not answer his calls when he comes knocking. Ungrateful!
He’s nothing but a bunch of trouble. Oh and ****K woke culture.
Haha you racist little boy! With tiny peenor, and troubled life. Wake up and appreciate the present day GOAT. Good way to start a thread tho. Respect.
He shoulder rolled better than anyone I can remember... His approach differed to Floyd's of course. Toney very easy on the eye. And he took chances. That was part of the attraction. Like Alex Higgins playing snooker.
There’s nothing “matrix like” about James Toney.
He was beaten soundly by unranked fighters multiple times and struggled badly or lost to fighters Roy Jones smashed to pieces.
This is a biased account. I remember you. You judge everything by records. Watch him move. You're not blind are you? Good boxing guys have good eyes, they can see it, and they can do it, a wee bit, AND YOU CAN'T!
Also, to speak more to your point. Jumping numerous divisions at the higher weights is rare, there have been others in history with similarly ridiculous feats to their credit, Harry Greb? Henry Armstrong! You do the googling. But I think Jones was the first to go from MW to HW with titles all along the way, although I think he may have hopped once or twice. Yes, he may have been aided by some well treated meat, but hey, Canelo has the taste for that stuff too! But naw, takes the drugs out of the picture and you've still got two exceptional fighters, and I think that's what he's getting at, it takes an exceptional kind of fighter to do the kind of things Canelo is doing currently.
The Golden Era of Steroids! Yeah, for sure he's manoevering there a bit, at times. But very mildy. He gives Canelo all the props he deserves and more, it's clear to see he appreciates him as a fighter, all the rest of it. I mean it comes across like he likes him, but yeah I see what you're saying there with that fake objectivity... He was mad on Caleb Plant too before their fight haha
Duude, who cares if he's pro black, he's black?! And he seems like a fair minded guy, racial preferences aside. Let's be honest here like, we can all get a bit racist at times, it's human nature, but I don't see anything real malignant with his craic.
Him growing up as a young black man, boxing fanatic, Toney and Jones are his heroes, so he's always gonna shy away from badmouthing them. I love the black fighters, and the black musicians. I'm Irish, from Ireland, the north, but it's all good/ Like me some Mexicans too, great country, and boxing is a great forum for celebrating it's contribution to global culture.
I think one of the cool things about boxing, and music actually, is that it's a fair space to make calls on the players based on where they're from. Because it matters! But I get your point man. Re: your encyclopedic knowledge of stimulants, very suspicious! :P But I can't talk =]=]
People keep bringing up Floyd leaving Arum as some kind of evidence of something. Floyd left because he believed he could be a bigger star than Arum believed he could be. Well besides Floyd and Haymon, who else in their right mind thought Floyd would end up with a BILLION dollars in career earnings?? Anyone who says they did is a liar, because if you would have made that claim 15 years ago you would have been laughed out of the gym. Arum offered Floyd $8 million bucks to fight Margs. That was a BOATLOAD of money back then. Floyd thought he was worth more, ventured out on his own, and ultimately proved himself to be right. Good for him. But that doesnt make Bob a racist, it makes him a businessman who made a simple risk/reward decision. The same type of decision he made with Oscar, Cotto, and a thousand other fighters.
I cant speak for everyone, but I have worked with most of the people at Top Rank in one way or another over the years, and I never got the slightest sense of any racist motivations over there. Its all about BUSINESS. Things either make money, or they don't.
Are you by any chance Jewish? Only jokin haha. Yeah man the racist thing seems a bit strange, except for the fact that Terence Crawford is exceedingly black! But in terms of categorization, no more black than the next African American. But aye, certainly seems there was some favouritism, or the opposite of going on there, or something of the sort, something sour. Great Pity. As for TC doing a Floyd, I remember seeing a clip of him meeting Errol Spence backstage at a big fight and he was a straight up G, very charismatic. He plays it down though, and gets shy, on occasion. It's a weird thing. Best fighter going. The problem with any person of talent today, be it athelete or artist, is that they're doomed to self promote. And some people just do not have the knack(or the taste) for this.
My only issue is when people refer to Arum as white. He's a Jew
so he's white with a big nose? Are we talking about the colour of his skin, or his ethnicity? If it's the latter you should really be more specific. There's a whole range of whites, ya dirty redknack
You asked this question too early. Consider consulting a timepiece expert who can recalibrate your bearings.
Psst... SHakur hammerss the fuck out of the Turk
Something happened. He gave Khan 5 + million to fight Bud. But wouldn’t offer 1miilion barely for a fight with Porter or Thurman after..???
Khan is an absolute goldmine, erego his whole mad endless career. I was thinkin about it the other day, think it might be a combination of --- his good looks, asian appeal, brit appeal, overall charisma and youth at beginning of pro career, hapless sort of naivety, endearing like, AND, a crazy unconventional style(in the true brit tradition. they don't have american schooling...) yes, some madman described it in a youtube comment, he likes to play with fire, crazy fast hands, puts his head in the line of fire in order to fire off his unorthodox unpredictable combinations, with surprising pop and power. Rarely in a boring fight early in his career. UNdeniable heart which may be in fact owed to an ego fed unquenchable thirst for success status etc etc etc love you xo
I have recieved unconformed infrotainment that nonplussed sockdrawers will clog your purse strings but really
Just throwing off the nonwelcome-ones... Yeah, I was speaking to Zab Judah's cousin the other day. He said Haney is a God in sparring, but Eddie Hearn is always in the room. Suspiciously. Kombosos lacks the self-awareness to cleverly deviate from his pre-programmed mindset, and Dev plans to box mildly for thirteen rounds in a boxing match cum theatre piece where all three judges will be magicians.
Ah, it goes deep. See to be honest man, I know fck all about him aside from the mailbag, never watched a jrock fight, seen the clip of him celebrataing. Seen his guy in against benavidez, got some praise form Bernstein. I can see how he's got conflicts of interest there, I just like reading his shit. But yep, different philosophies. It's like if you have a kid, are you gonna keep them off computers and social media nd vr headsets when it comes the time because you dont think its healthy, even if it makes them a pure nerdlinger in school etc. Sometimes you just have to let the shit roll, there are plenty of fighters im sure who indulge in all the modern culture and suceed. He's just a bit of a nut. You gotta have some respect for him like, like him or not, eh?
That Nery, i remember him knocking everybody out at featherweight? Frampton wass movin up I was like swerve lol. Garcia has something special but lacking some fundamentals.
As for mad discipline, I say leave it to the individual. If you got an andre ward on your hnds, its in his nature to want to be all pernickity. Some guys just wanna chill =]
His drop kind of tainted the whole thing...
Like I don't wanna ruin the party, but the Jones I watched against (Hero)Calzaghe barely resembled the Superhuman star of highlight reel fame.
I think his very best moments are unparalled, but I wouldn't quite put him up there with Robinson. But it's inches' It's a different thing too.
Yeah, the skillset won't transfer. But it'd be good to see a load of UFC boys crying over it. It would take a career reset. Or a complete business remodelling. Dana White has the whole lot of them by the balls. Fury lickin' his chops at the prospect and startin' the craic already, big dough, big fun
Ruiz f--cked his mind up. All the commercial BS will muddy the craic, Hearn will talk him up for decades after his retirement to furnish his own reputation.
I thought Shane was a good trainer until the lead up to the 2nd Leo Santa Cruz fight. Wrong approach altogether, saying Santa Cruz could only ever fight one way, and that's all they prepared for, then when Leo starts to box they're ****ing lost. I was so angry watching that fight. Bad attitude, stupid tactics. You could argue that a great fighter will always find a way, but I think that all that bull**** they were feeding him, building his ego, telling him he would easily outbox him the 2nd time round, nevermind winning Fighter of the Year all round, bad ****.
Nevertheless, Frampton is an elite level fighter. Great jab, power in both hands, footwork, smarts, heart, fluid movement - the one thing he lacks is a good engine. I mean he can go the twelve rounds all right, but he does gas, time and time again, has managed to get away with it so far. Watched him at the open workout today, hopefully he gets back in the mix next year, back where he belongs.
Anybody see the vid of Fury slipping shots in Hatton's gym? The man's ridiculous, and that's him at 25 stone. Somebody do us a favour and post the vid if you know the one I'm on about.
He's dogged, determined, and he has skills. Don't think he's coming along to fall over. In fact I think he's very hungry which I hope will make for a good fight. That said, Charlo could wipe him out with a barrage mid-rounds. Maybe Castano digs deep, hangs in, a good clash of styles... with everything that's on the line, the drama that Charlo brings to any fight, could be looking at something special. I like CHarlo's personality, I think he makes it a special fight either way.
Like Castano's persistence. He wasn't overawed by the skill of Lara, just kept on pressuring. A lot easier to stand in front of Lara's punches than it would be Charlo's I'd expect. I'm a little under-researched in this division, just on my way back to the exalted 'hardcore' status haha, but the overall impression I get is that Charlo is the better man. He strikes me as a special fighter, he's got that extra something that you can't train, something inner. Gonna watch his fights with Harrison here and see what I can glean. Watched him at the press conference earlier and was kinda won over, everything else I've seen has been highlights. My un-educated prediction is that Charlo knocks him the fuck out in dramatic fashion late on, after a killer fight, one that lives up to the billing, and maybe brings a bit of much-deserved attention to the division. I judged these Charlo guys as idiots, looks like I'm the idiot :D Looking forward to a good fight.
Depends how hard you wanna follow it. Few years ago I was watching every fight, researching things, watching every fight real closely. Then I stepped back a bit and just chilled, watched the big fights. Feel myself being drawn back into the hardcore scene again, and I'm liking it, but I'm not gonna break my neck trying to keep up with every single little detail. Agree with you though, too many subscriptions, Dazn very reasonable but the production's shite, unreasonable to ask somebody to pay for 'em all. If only there were another way of viewing fights without the crippling expense...
