Very good fight. The movement and the way ward fought is what I expected in the first fight, he did a lot better this time out.
I was not very happy with the way it ended or the hbo team last night. They were not borderline shots or questionable, they were low plain and simple. Hypothetically if they were body shots a fight of this caliber shouldn't have been stopped where it was stopped in my opinion.
I felt a little cheated out of the other rounds that we could have seen, and the commentators throwing salt in the wound.
Yes, not only would he have ko'd mayweather. He would have beaten both Mayweather and pac at the same time in a 2 against one bout, and probably a grizzly bear on his way back to his Toyota Camry after the fight.
This has been an extremly tough fight to call. I've been wrong before and often but I got Rigo by a wide ud. I think rigos movement and counterpunching will cause problems for lomo. I think even though rigo is moving up he will be the puncher.
I picked rigo by wide decision before the fight. Though his countering and movement would cause a lot of problems. I was wrong and it was the complete opposite. Lomo made it his fight and completely neutralized rigos gameplan. Hats off to lomo
He's not the most talented fighter around, but he's got some grit and a lot of heart. By no means a "hype-job." He has some good wins, and had a helluva fight with Martinez. And a lot of good potential matchups.
I think this "fight" has been incredibly over-hyped. Don't get me wrong it's a good fight, but there is no way it lives up to the hype. The people involved (promoters etc.) will win, but i doubt boxing fans will.
Call it a hunch.
TS I don't really think it goes that deep. I think for most in the us, the heavyweight division has been about excitment. You have these big guys who can change a fight in one punch, going at it. That's kind of what you expect from a guy who is over six feet tall that weighs 200 plus lbs. There is a lack of competition for them and that's not there fault. Tyson for example, i and maybe a lot of others had no idea who his opponent was prior to fighting him. A lot of them were no bodies. The difference however is he dispacthed of them in exciting fashion. (And a lot of americans questioned how he'd fare against the greats of the past.) It's boring to see a guy like wlad going twelve rounds with a nobody. It's predictable, boring.
It's not about nationality, think to the lower weight classes, think roy jones. Roy dominated every division he was in, one of the most gifted fighters ever IMO, yet the causal fan had no idea who he was. You could make the argument that there wasn't any real competition for rjj. He fought mandatories. Sometimes i'd find myself bored wondering why he was fighting this garbage man and why that garbage man was still around after so many rounds. Did that make roy less dominant? No. Some of his fights were a little boring as much as i hate to admit it.
Im sorry but this thread is so stupid. There is page after page of people saying the brothers have boring fights. Eastern european, or american no one wants to watch a champion go 12 rounds with a cab driver. The Klitschkos are good and they are dominating the division, but it's f****ing boring gtf over it.
There is no grand conspiracy. Stop trying to make this into something that it's not.
He won a few rounds, but it was more like oscar gave up a couple of rounds. He landed a few good shots but a lot were not connecting.
Ike gave him a tougher fight IMO
Oscar seriously schooled him the first time and i don't see the second being anything different except for a bigger beatdown.
This.
I see Oscar pressing more for the knock out in this one.
Going into this fight a lot of people had trouble picking a winner. De la hoya made a top fighter in his prime look like it was his pro debut. I was rooting for tito in the fight and i was pissed because he wasn't doing anything, but he was clearly getting schooled.
Even though he got the loss, i became a fan.
I dont know about cotto, but Vargas had trouble keeping and dropping weight, plus tons of outside distractions. Cotto took his time climbing the ranks.
No, this was a good match up the first time around, but i think they should move on from here. Both have some really good potential fights in their future.
De La Hoya did lose some big fights, however he didn't get his ass kicked in his big fight losses. With the exeption of Pac, or B Hop. He had some "decent" rounds with Mayweather, but was clearly beat.
His fights with (a prime) Mosley were close and very competitive, and i feel he won the second. Win or lose, he schooled Trinidad.
Towards the end of his career his losses were bad, but in his prime they were very close and with elite fighters in their prime.
He gets my respect because win or lose he took the big fights that everyone wanted to see. He could have taken the easy road and still would have made a lot of money, but he chose the big fights.
I think it's been a slow process, but overtime it's seems like the boxing media, boxing fans and the fighters themselves have been putting less of an emphasis on who has the title. Years ago i knew who pretty much had what belt, now i have no idea, and i could care less.
We all know who the good or great fighters are, we dont need a leather belt to tell us. Or mandatory defenses, sanctioning fees etc
