I say De La Hoya. Hoya always fought THE BIGGER GUYS. When is the last time Floyd fought a guy bigger than him? and in his PRIME?
Decades ago. Prime oscar would TAX floyds ass. and floyd knows it
DLH, But he also got his ass kicked in every meaningful fight of his career.
the only fights that delahoya got his ass kicked was when he moved up to middleweight to fight the much larger bernard hopkins and when he was past it and fought pacquiao.
both hopkins and pacquiao were also #1 p4p at the time delahoya fought them.
his other losses to mosley , tito , etc. were disputable decisions and close fights and he didn't do too bad against mayweather , especially compared to others who got humiliated by mayweather.
The level of opposition that Floyd has faced is pretty good, but it tends to get underrated because Floyd is able to make good fighters look bad. That said, he still can't beat Oscar in terms of competition faced. Oscar has fought more great fighters than any other boxer in the modern era.
Brandish, dmaclv, Mannie Phresh and TRUCKIN all have a lot to answer for, due to the fact they all think Mayweather fought the better fighters!!!!!!! :nonono:
try again
John John Molina
Miguel A. Gonzalez
Genaro Hernandez
Julio C. Chavez
Fernando Vargas
Ricardo Mayorga
Ike Quartey
Pernell Whitaker
and more
The last to (Quartey and Whitaker) where close decisions but his bout with Felix Trinidad wasn't, he just got robbed.
Well said! De la hoya HAS beaten some very good fighters despite what people say on here!
De La Hoya did lose some big fights, however he didn't get his ass kicked in his big fight losses. With the exeption of Pac, or B Hop. He had some "decent" rounds with Mayweather, but was clearly beat.
His fights with (a prime) Mosley were close and very competitive, and i feel he won the second. Win or lose, he schooled Trinidad.
Towards the end of his career his losses were bad, but in his prime they were very close and with elite fighters in their prime.
He gets my respect because win or lose he took the big fights that everyone wanted to see. He could have taken the easy road and still would have made a lot of money, but he chose the big fights.
the more appropriate question is who has fared better against tough competiton. everyone is saying that DLH fought everyone...well he was the cash cow so all the top guys had to go after him in order to get their payday. and DLH accepted those fights to get a payday as well. unfortunately he lost most of his fights against the better competition. Floyd's only "close" fight was Castillo I. Ive never seen someone get so much acclaim for losing fights. I remember some people saying that Floyd could never knock Hatton out then after he knocked him out, all of a sudden Floyd was too big. now thats just hate
People can say that De La Hoya fought better opposition but he also lost his biggest fights. I'm not saying Floyd has a better resume but he has beaten some of the greatest fighters of this era, De La Hoya did that also but he lost to the truly great fighters like Trinidad, Mosley, Floyd and I thought Felix Sturm beat him also. He did beat Chavez but that was one great win, Which other great fighter did he beat? Ike Quartey? Fernando Vargas?
I think Floyd has beaten better fighters and convincingly too. (Mosley, De La Hoya, Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales and Genaro Hernandez were all very good wins but the way he beat them was the most impressive thing. He destroyed Corrales, Hernandez and Mosley)
Oscar fought everyone in his era but he lost more than half of his big fights. You can say he won the 2nd Mosley fight but you could also say he lost to Felix Sturm so I dont think you can make excuses for De La Hoya.
Great points
Delahoya was also brought up carefully, but nothing compared to floyd. Floyd is still being ever so careful up to this point.
Neither of these guys were brought up carefully. Definitely not when you look at the young up and comers nowadays. Floyd fought the man in his division in Hernandez for his 17th bout and DLH's track record speaks for itself. Both of these guys earned their clout in the ring. And DLH has faced the more difficult opposition but who has beaten the better option is a more fitting question because that is what matters even journeymen can face a lot of difficult opposition.

In the list I posted it's 12 vs 14 threats/names in favor of De La Hoya but in reality it's really 10 to 14 to the general public because I know people like to discredit Floyd's decent wins. A lot of people don't see Baldomir or Corley as good wins but they add Corley as a good win for Cotto, I don't why when Mayweather beat him first.
If Floyd goes out there and beat at least 3 names including Pacquiao, maybe Khan, and Berto or Martinez then there he would make it close. A win over Pacquiao, Khan and Berto would be real nice for his resume. Even Timothy Bradley after he's had a couple of WW fights Floyd could take him on and that would be a good win if Bradley stays undefeated. Mayweather has some good options out there.
Dude after you post.....there is just no need to post any more......there it is in plain black and white.....wow when you actually see it it really shows you how great DLH was and how shitty resume May has (in comparison of course)
Green K for your efforts!!!
Yup, i'm a Flomo too but i'm no fan boy. Mayweather actually won all of his big fights though. But De La Hoya definitely fought everyone. I mean DLH was just Forrest, Winky and Margarito(Cotto-Margarito winner) away from literally fighting every single threat/name opponent from his era. Can't hate on that, that's why I defend Oscar outside of him picking Pacquiao over Margarito.
DLH, But he also got his ass kicked in every meaningful fight of his career.
TRUE! Oscar lost every big fight I can remember or he got a BULLSH*T controversial decision
Oscar in his prime still don't beat Mayweather
After Mosley i think DLH had probably the hardest fights out there.....they took on the best out there, and risked alot.
Floyd is nothing compared to DLH and anyone who votes Floyd needs to be banned from this forum
