Definate robbery, but I am not as outraged as I would usually be simply because Vazquez is a boring. Also, who was stupid enough to book a vazquez fight in a ppv?
I hope he is just talking for the sake of it. I don't even care for his "money" persona but I don't want to see him doing supermarket appearences after he retires simply for the money. Cars, houses, boats, and planes burn through money quickly especially when he stops fighting. For his sake I hope Mayweather promotions keeps making him money.
HBO (and in fact every tv station) cares more about ratings than having the best boxers. Rigo does not excite or bring ratings. A couple years ago HBO would try to hype up Rigo but the viewers didn't buy it since his style is not action oriented and he has no persona to make people tune in. For example, Mayweather fights are not sold (for the most part) on Mayweather's skill but on the persona (TBE, Money, undefeated). Some people watch his fights to watch him lose. If Rigo was more obnoxious or controversial he might get more coverage (sad but true).
yea initially i had floyd penciled in as joffrey but joffrey is dead and floyd is still on top. so i went with the child like with power in robin arrynd being controlled by a power broker in lord bealish (al haymon).
Spoiler that sh1 t son. I havent caught up. :boxing:
Jim Gray is a twat...I'd laugh if GRJ smacked him in the face right now. This guy is a piece of schit.
This. When he asked him if Loma was better than him I expected him to chin check him. To Gary's credit he acted with class.
The first 3 rds I thought Lara won through movement and punching (enough). Canelo looked frustrated. The next rds Canelo adjusted and started focusing on the body. Lara ran (not boxed) i gave those rounds to canelo. The final rounds were very close with Lara landing headshots , while canelo attacked the body with combinations. 7-5 canelo. 117-111 was mental. I could see a draw or 1 pt decision to Lara. The crowd, aggressiveness, and Lara's running (through large stretches of the fight) ultimately led to a win for Canelo.
Looking good against Lara is impossible, which makes top fighters hesitant to fight him. Lara will be avoided at all cost because his style in not fan friendly, he is not a big draw, and he will make great fighters look terrible.
Yes. Salido beat the prime out of him. Mikey beat him easily and showed Juan Ma had no legs left. He was about to be killed by Ponce de Leon (who is/was a shop worn fighter in his own right), but his heart saved him that time as he was able to land big (the ref stopped fight prematurely but I think de Leon would not have recovered). Last night he showed he still has his heart and a warrior spirit but his body is not able to respond. Sadly (and hopefully I am wrong) he looks like a fighter who will end up being used as a stepping stone, constantly taking beatings. He might even end up permanently brain damaged. Athletic comission should protect the fighter from himself and revoke his fighters license.
I had the same scorecard as Op. Rewatched the fight this morning. While i don't think the 117-111 was a good scorecard I think this judge was influenced by the crowd and was judging based on aggressiveness. 9-3 tells me he gave every close round to the aggressor. If I weren't scoring on a 10 pt must i would have scored rd 2 as a 10-10 rd.
I was surprised that Canelo did not gas after the 7th rd. He kept up the pressure and that swayed two of the the judges.
I knew it was a Canelo win when I heard 117-111. I had it 115-113 Canelo, but I could see the 115-113 for Lara and potentially a draw.
If it wasn't for the crowd roaring it would have been a pretty ****ty fight.
This. Gave Canelo 115-113 win. Maybe the 2 of the judges were not impressed in the middle rounds when Lara went full on Oscar mode (Oscar v trinidad final rds).
Dude is smart, I took Spanish in high school at 14 and still couldn't speak it as good as him.
Taking spanish in high school teaches you very little. Best way to learn a language is to be immersed in it and have to speak it as a necessity. I can't imagine there are alot of Japanese people in mexico that he could talk to.
He speaks the language well. The way he says his "r" gives it away that he isn't a native speaker, but he speaks spanish better than Rios, Danny Garcia, and Arreola.
LOL, is he really about to burst into tears? It's sad that commentators can't just call what they see without their bias getting in the way.
Seriously. Instead of going into their post fight analysis about the upset and what Algieri did to get the decision, Kellerman started backtracking saying he was going to rescore the fight in order to try to save his reputation as an analyst. Lampley was even worse he still refused to accept that he may have been blinded by bias and continued to say that Provodnikov won. It would have been a great time to play up the underdog and say something like "boxing is not decided by odds and bookies, but by the two men in the ring" or something about the exciting unpredictability of the great sport. Instead, Lampley looked like he was going to cry himself to sleep.
I thought the fight was close a plausible decision by the ref. HBO cheerleading provodnikovs performance was sickening to watch, but it was funny to watch it blow up in their face. Props to Andre for saying what he saw and not what HBO wanted him to say.
If the fight goes the distance Kahn wins. If a knockout is to happen I would put money on garcia koing him. Kahn is such an interesting fighter because at any moment he can lose. Also Kahn's strategy is dependent on a benevolent ref who allows him to clinch excessively.
so marquez isn't looking faster and stronger and bulkier than he ever has before at age 40? marquez isn't connected with a shady steroid chemist?? he doesn't show signs of steroid acne all over his body? c'mon.........there is no bias here just ****ing truth....something u marquez fans seem to be scared of accepting
a guy at age 38-40 doesn't just getting stronger and faster and bigger than he ever has in just a short period of time without the help of steroids
Is it a possibility that Marquez is on PED's? Sure.
Am I going to accuse him of being a cheat without evidence? No.
Marquez has not looked faster to me than he did earlier in his career. He has never been all that fast. His combinations are executed with perfect timing and technique. Stronger and bulkier could be a result of PED'S. However they could also be a result of working with a guy who is a world class S&C coach.
I know the guy is shady, and it was always going to create controversy for anyone to work with him because of his past. But this guy works/ed with many world class athletes so he is an expert on the training and nutrition. You don't get to train with an athlete like Usain Bolt if you don't know what you are doing.
Marquez has been working with memo since 2011 and he has gotten bulkier but it hasn't been overnight. In 2011 he didnt look as good as in 2012. There has been a gradual improvement in his physique that could have been the result of a combination of a proper diet and training regiment conducted by a world class coach. Although i wouldn't rule out the possibility that he has been given an illegal substance, I will not trash a guys career and label him a drug cheat on an presumption of guilt. I want to see some proof. Whether it be a drug test or some other credible evidence.
Is there a difference between steroid acne and regular acne?
I couldn't really see the acne in the weigh in photos clearly (they were blurry) and the pics on google are too small. Also, during the fight I tried to see them and I could not get a good look at the supposed acne (movement, angles, hands blocking chest , etc). From a photo i would think it would be difficult to tell what is acne, a rash, allergic reaction, or some other skin condition. I am not a dermatologist.
I think that one of the most troubling things about this is that people have already made up there minds. There will be people who will say he is a cheat even if he never fails a drug test for the rest of his career and goes on olympic testing. They will say "... Oh Heredia is just a great chemist... his drugs are undetectable...etc." So evidence that goes against their belief will be discarded or rationalized (confirmation bias). Likewise, if Marquez fails a drug test some of his fans will come up with an excuse to try to explain away the results. There are such things as false positives and false negatives so a good testing agency will have multiple samples from which to test. If Marquez fails a test (multiple samples to rule out false positives) which procedure has not been compromised and is unbiased I will have to reasses my attitude toward Marquez.I am just uncomfortable calling someone a cheat without concrete evidence.
Yes very exciting times. Very excited for the World Cup!
80, 000 fans going to be at Wembley for this rematch.. I do honestly believe British sports fans are the best (I am not a passionate Brit at all but I do believe this) so it should be fucking mental.
I am not German but I would say Borussia Dortmund fans are the best fans I have ever seen. Maybe when they allowed standing sections in britain they were the best. Why would they have this fight in such a large venue(besides financial reasons)? I imagine they people up top will see very little. How much are they charging for ppv? They will make a killing of this fight. Great night for British boxing.
HBO has never been high on Marquez since his fourth fight with Manny. They got even worse after Manny got KO. Any HBO/Showtime analyst opinions I take with a grain of salt since they always protect their cash cows.
I hated Tony Weeks' work in the Danny Garcia v Lucas Matthysse fight. I hope he allows them to fight on the inside and doesn't allow excessive cliches, elbows on the inside and rabbit punches.
Khan executed his strategy perfectly. He kept the fight on the outside. Virgils biggest influence on Kahn besides making him more disciplined is showing kahn how to clinch to avoid fighting on the inside/exchanges. A less lenient ref may have taken more points away for clinching.
Collazo went out with the Randal Bailey strategy of one big shot coupled with the homer simpson defensive strategy.
Props to Khan. Thurman, broner, danny, maidana, and even Mayweather are all possible fights (if he stays at 147). I would like to see him against thurman or garcia, that would test his discipline and if he wins would put him front of the line in mayweather sweepstake. His power didn't seem to carry over which can be worrisome, but that may have been because Collazo is really tough/good chin.
5 out ofthe first 6 rds i scored for maidana. He was able to get floyd on the ropes and touch him up to the body and some to the head. Floyd would land clean crisp shots but they were not enough imo to out do the grittier work maidana did those rounds. Then rd 7 -10 i scored for mayweather. Maidana looked to tire and Mayweather let his hands go landing combos and also counters. Maidana was not able to get work done on the ropes like he did earlier in the fight. Rds 11-12 I scoredfor Maidana Floyd was not as effective as he was in those middle rds and Maidana pushed past fatigueand put in some work. 7-5 Maidana. I can't get my head around 117-111.
I watched it on BoxNation and omg it was shocking how much they were all over Floyd, it was almost as ifthey couldnt see Maidana until he was on the recieving end, realy shocking stuff
This. Early in the fight when maidana was getting Mayweather on the ropes and hitting him in the body and some shots to the head, they would say nothing until floyd got in a counter then they would say"... Sharp counter by mayweather...". I was like wtf, usually the boxnation crew doesnt nuthug a fighter. During JMM v Pac 3 they were fair.
