I want fight cards people, how did you all see it and who did you have winning? Was it a robbery or simply a close fight.
I had it:
RD 1: 10-9 Lara
RD 2: 10-9 Lara
RD 3: 10-9 Lara
RD 4: 10-9 Canelo
RD 5: 10-9 Canelo
RD 6: 10-9 Canelo
RD 7: 10-9 Canelo
RD 8: 10-9 Canelo
RD 9: 10-9 Canelo
RD 10: 10-9 Lara
RD 11: 10-9 Lara
RD 12: 10-9 Canelo
115-113 Canelo
Ultimately I think it comes down to how you scored rounds 5/6 and 8, I can see it going 115-113 Lara...but that 117-111 card was crazy.
Personally, I believe Lara gave away the middle rounds, running around the ring doing a poor Ali or Leonard impression without throwing counters or getting off first isn't enough to win rounds. Canelo on the other hand, got his best work done in those rounds, beautiful body shots and some decent upper cuts.
I can't account for any bias. I try to be objective is all I can say. And it's not like one of the judges or a slew of non-Cuban fans don't agree with my score. :)
Maybe it was more accurate to say that Lara's tendencies sometimes lose close rounds for him. Landy is known to be a little too selective in picking his shots. It makes him too inactive...too many pauses. I have to say, though, when Lara unleashed those 1-2s, and even a few three-punch combos late, they snapped off like rifle-fire.
See, that's what frustrates me! Lara has great handspeed and can rattle off combos like great fighters of the past but then, numerous times in his career, he stops throwing punches. Few fighters frustrate me like Lara, DeGale is similar.
Rd 1: Lara
Rd 2: Lara
Rd 3: Lara
Rd 4: Canelo
Rd 5: Canelo
Rd 6: Lara
Rd 7: Canelo
Rd 8: Canelo
Rd 9: Canelo
Rd 10: Lara
Rd 11: Lara
Rd 12: Canelo
6-6 draw
good card!
Yeah. He had the fight in the bag then gave away rounds 7,8 and 9.
I had it 4-2 Lara after 6 then scored 10,11 and 12 for him. He deserved the nod because of how strongly he closed the fight.
Lara took the championship rounds and that's what champions do.
Lara def got rounds 10 and 11 but how can u possibly give him the 12th? he was way too complacent and only picked up the pace half way through and then went back to pacing about the ring
1 lara, dictated with the jab and movement
2 canelo, lara landed a nice straight left early, but canelo did major body work
3 lara, his best round, landed great shots, movement, canelo looked super frustrated
4 canelo, canelo came storming back and landed great body
5 canelo, close but i thought canelo landed the cleaner shots, especially body
6 lara, got back into his groove, close but thought lara edged it
7 canelo- lara seemed to drop his activity level, still moving but not alot of punches
8- canelo- body shots paying dividends
9- canelo- lara just back pedaling and not get his shots off, giving away rounds
10- canelo- very close, but i thought canelo edged it
11- lara- the cuban finally comes back to life and has a good round
12- lara- pretty close, but lara i thought controlled it
115-113 canelo
Good fight between 2 contrasting styles
good card similar to mine apart from rd 2 and 12. i cant see how canelo won the second.
A few where even hitting him in the leg.
laras trunk were half way up his chest and ref caught on lol
I had the same score as Showtime.
It was a close fight but if you look at the body language of both fighters both during the fight and at the end of the fight, you see Alvarez looking somewhat disgusted, while Lara was acting like the fight was going exactly as planned. Landing cleanly when he set his feet and catching shot's on his gloves and elbows while retreating. Alvarez did land to the body with some frequency but it was not effective at slowing Lara down as he boxed all the way till the end of the fight. At the end of the day, Lara was going upside Canelo's head at will.
I find it funny that people praise Mayweather's style of hit and not be hit but when it came to Lara, he was running. I for one prefer aggression over boxing but Alvarez never appeared to be in control of that fight. With that said, there was no way Lara was going to win a close draw type fight against GoldenBoys Cash cow.
7-5 Lara.
People keep talking about canelo's body shots but i saw a lot of them were borderline low blow and hitting Lara's elbows and hips. I preferred the precise and accurate punches to canelo's head.

Absolutely. After the third, he really took control of the fight. The fourth round it seemed that he knew he was down and he picked up his pace.Really good body work and that slowed Lara down in the middle rounds.
He seemed like he knew he'd need a few rounds to figure out Lara's speed and committed to the body right away. He knew the task going in, despite his "no, I thought Lara would fight" talk afterwards.
Eh, I do need to rewatch it with a quality recording, but my opinion stands until I do, time to head off to the vid training block section.
I already got it in HD, gotta love how things have advanced :boxing:
Lara didn't dominate either.
Lara had his moments, as did Canelo.
No one was schooled.

Canelo's body work was very impressive IMO.
I'd like to see him throw more combinations and put the pressure on better, he's still learning and he did show improvement but he's still got a lot of improving to do.
I get it's hard because his feet are slow and Lara's very tricky so it's always going to be hard for him but he did very well at times especially in the mid rounds in closing the distance.

Not looking at the whole fight maybe, but in many single rounds, especially in the beginning, he absolutely did in my book. and Canelo never looked dominant as a statement back, I saw ineffective pressure and missed punches, and many blocked shots.
How can Lara be pivoting and using good footwork then coming back with a 3 punch combination to the face then moving out, not be commendable? In what world is that? To me that is boxing.

I thought the 12th was pretty clear for Alvarez. He pushed the fight, had a few up inside body combos, and Lara seemed content to give it away.
That's how I scored it. But seen more than a few ppl give that round to Lara.

I see a few people gave Canelo the 2nd, gave that round to Lara but it was a swing round IMO. But I thought Nelo rattled off about 6 straight rounds, with the 7th being very close.
Will need to watch the 12th again.
