Because I watched the Floyd/Maidana fight again and counted the clinches for each round, here’s what I found.
In round 1 there was only one clinch
In round 2 there was 2 clinches and 2 clinches that were broken up 2 soon and Marcos not allowed to do work. From now on I’ll just put (BU2S) behind the # of clinches broken up 2 soon.
In round 3 there were 5 clinches and 1 clinch (BU2S)
In round 4 there were 4 clinches and 2 clinches (BU2S)
In round 5 there were 4 clinches and 0
In round 6 there were 5 clinches and 2 clinches (BU2S)
In round 7 there were 4 clinches and 0
In round 8 there were 6 clinches and 6 clinches (BU2S)
In round 9 there were 6 clinches and 4 clinches (BU2S)
In round 10 there were 3 clinches and 3 clinches (BU2S)
In round 11 there were 2 cinches and 4 clinches (BU2S)
In round 12 Floyd just ran like crazy and clinched 4 times there were no (BU2S)
TOTALS
45 Clinches
25 (BU2S)
(70 TOTAL CLINCHES) So what do you guys think?
Floyd tipped the commissions to get a ref like Kenny. Every Floyd interview "Maidana is a dirty fighter" ...... in comes Kenny!
When they announced it was Bayless I didn't like it either but it's not like there's proof of some kind of cover up were Bayless was payed off or something. I stick with what I know. Bayless did a bad job and at times looked anxious or something.
I will say this. You can't be mad at Floyd even if he got on his bicycle at times he did what he was supposed to do and what he had to do to win. He really looked great at times. Bayless dropped the ball on this one.

Not Mayweathers fault unfortunatly. It's up to the ref. Damnit Bayless! Anywho Floyd would've beaten Maidana.
"WE BE JUICING!"
Kenny Bayless has reffed plenty of Floyd fights. Floyd knew what he could get away with.

He warned Floyd once about it and as soon as the action started again he threw the forearm right into Maidanas chin and neck and the ref said nothing lol..bad night for Bayless, he's regarded as the best or one of the best at least.
Exactly and he did it right in front of Bayless. He threw that forearm several times but that was the worst and Maidana didn't put no acting show he just kept fighting but when Maidana threw his forearm in behind a punch later that same round Floyd puts on a show and Bayless is all over Maidana. Also the replay clearly shows that because of Floyds excellent defensive skills, the forearm just grazed him. While Floyds landed clean sending Maidana back earlier that round.
How come there wasn't any complaining about clenching in the Porter vs Brook fight?
Trust me, there were. I was one of them.
The problem as I see it is that the rules only state that clinching is illegal. How it is dealt with is totally at the referee's discretion. Some referees deduct points after only a few clinches. At the other end of the spectrum, the referee in the Ruiz-Golota fight allowed Ruiz to initiate 168 clinches without recieving a warning.
The rules and judging criteria in boxing are much too vague for my liking. If one of the governing bodies were to address this they would distinguish themselves from the other 3 and do boxing a huge service.
He is almost 38, he clearly is no longer prime and hell he is old..but still on top of his game
I agree but still very vulnerable now. I think Manny stops this version of Floyd.
This fight had lots of clinching and the vazquez fight probably had twice as many clinches. The ppv should have been called The Clinch.
:lol1::lol1::lol1:
that's my point it was a close fight and Chino shouldn't be giving Floyd these kind of problems

Both holding and clinching is illegal according to the Nevada Atheltic Comission rules. There's no need to differentiate.

What annoys me the most is when people complain about the ref breaking apart fighters too early. "Bayless isn't letting Maidana fight inside by breaking them apart too early! He still had one hand free!"
The ref should absolutely break them apart. Always. There should be zero holding and clinching period. Maidana should not be fighting when he's being clinched or held because the clinching/holding shouldn't be happening in the first place. Ref needs to break them apart, warn the clinching fighter, and take points off if they keep on doing it. "Breaking apart too early" shouldn't even be a thing because the ref should have taken points off by then.
If Maidana wants to work on the inside, he should be able to without being held. If Mayweather doesn't want to fight on the inside, he needs use his legs and move the fuck out of the way, not hold.
Agree 100%. Bayless is supposed to disengage clinched fighters, as quickly and efficiently as possible. That is what he did. So I think Bayless did his job. Bayless was also heard verbally warning Mayweather about clinching.
Mayweather clinched some in this fight, but not as excessively as some people make it sound. Somebody said he averaged 20 clinches a round, which would be 240 clinches
You know how many times Floyd threw his elbow into Chinos mouth and Bayless said nothing. In the 11th Floyd throws a vicious elbow to Chinos chin to back him up and Bayless says nothing a couple seconds later Chino does the same and Bayless is all over him and even though there isn't any proof of Chino biting because in the replay you don't see it. I can honestly say I know Chino bit him but I can also honestly say it was in retaliation for Floyd covering his mouth to suffocate him. Floyd fought dirty to lets not get it twisted it's just Chino didn't complain only when he got hit very low the one time and Floyd cried and exaggerated every chance he got.

The rules are somewhat contradictory. A fighter is expected to protect oneself at all times, including a clinch at times. Clinches are initiated when there is a legitimate tie up. During this tie up the other arm can work. When a fighter holds to stop a punch that is wrong and that is what Klitschko did against potavkin and what Floyd did against Chino. Bailess was paid and there to be like Ottke's ref was! The gloves prevented chino's punches from flooring Floyd...the whole thing wa absurd...And To top it off? where was Chino's corner? never said a word. part of the payola? who knows,
its pathetic though. My previous estimation of Floyd went way down, he cheats and he did break the rules by initiating a clinch before the fighters tied up in attempting to work. Glad I don't pay for the fights thats all
Well if you let chino clinch he will try to knee you in the nuts, everyone knows this and Chino proved it in the first fight, then he bites the opposing fighter. When is enough enough? How cant you see he is a classless fighter, dirty fighter, he needs to be suspended and fined just like Tyson was for biting Evander. No place in the sport for that are or you cool with those tactics in boxing?

They should be told to fight there way out of clinches.
Also, most clinches are unavoidable. But what Floyd nd others have done is to grab and hug. Which shouldnt be allowed by the ref.
He just did it two times, and with 8oz gloves, you know the size Chino's fans were crying about him not getting to use in the first fight. He got to use them but apparently he couldnt cut off the ring with 8oz gloves. And floyd has beaten every type of style over the course of his career 47-0 proves this.
you realise maidana has lost to all the best fighters he's faced? his biggest names are ortiz and broner, there are levels in this sport, so even if a guys weakness is a southpaw, if he fights a southpaw who's a nobody, it's completely different(not to say i dont think maidana isn't a good fighter, i think he's a good win too, i was one of the few that was ok with that fight the first time it was announced)
and floyd never fought a mover in his life so he hasn't fought every style
I am all in for Hopkins man.....just saying stop being openly biased...Clinching 5-6 times a round is not a lot...
Especially against a mover, it definitely is a lot. It takes a lot of time and work to finally trap a fighter and get close enough to get some punches inside. When you get in punching range, and then get clinched, all that work chasing the guy was for nothing. You may only get 6 chances to get close enough, and getting clinched all those 6 times would be bull.
