Why do guys want to play grid iron in the NFL? why do guys want play basketball in the NBA? why do guys want to play baseball in the MLB? for the money of course. why do boxers risk their health and wellbeing? money
The Eastern Europeans were not all that successful against the Americans in the amateurs.
Perhaps the money they could've earned as pro fighters would've motivated more Eastern Europeans to take up boxing though...
Andrew Golota was the first one (or atleast one of the first ones) to show that the Eastern European heavyweights could certainly compete with the American heavyweights physically although not mentally in Golota's case...
Good post! Golota could of been anything, very good technique, hand speed, power, great all-round fighter, was just enver mentally prepared.
yes, Stevenson, Felix Savon, i'm sure they would have torn the division apart!
I would have loved to see Stevenson turn pro and fight Ali back then.
Is it true Stevenson turned down a multi million dollar offer to turn pro and fight Ali?
maybe with american techniques and soviet style training adopted to pro there would have been a couple of gems.
no doubt, the soviets boxers trained very hard, beyond our imagination, i got a lil insight on soviet training methods from reading a Kostya Tszyu bio, ditch the typical stand up style and throw in the american style + soviet training, anything could of been possible
He was also rocked by Mormeck, so what? he still won both of the fights he was rocked in, which is a good sign. Remember, Haye is a natural heavy who is 6ft3, 6ft4 and was boiling down to make the 200 lbs limit, that would take its toll on your athletic ability and strength. Haye will be a monster at heavy with that extra 30 lbs, he will be faster and will hit harder, you will see!
Sanders was a great fighter, very fast hands (possibly one of the fastest in HW history?) real solid HW power, killer instinct, good shot selection, would work the body and head really well to score KO's and he was a southpaw,
I seen him recently lose to a domestic south african fighter, so i doubt he has the passion to box and make it at the top level anymore
No one cares about his pride man.He claims he is scared of needles when he has tatoos,he claims he loses power by giving blood. There is nothing called Philipino pride,if they were so proud they wouldnt be leaving their country they way they do.They wouldnt be going to work in other countries in low paying jobs ,escorts and homos and marrying for passports.(There's no racism here just facts). This is well know in academic circles.Just check the Jolibee case study by Harvard Business School and there is emperical evidence to the effect.Every Economist knows Philipines is the greatest exporter of human capital..SO leave pride alone, the guy is juiced up that's all.

The motherfu.cker getting knocked down is backing straight back up with his hands down.. how to defend and evade punches properly are the basics of boxing, these mma chumps wouldn't have a clue.. It's easy to KO fighters who move straight back with their hands down..
The third clip shows why he was KO'd/dropped.. He was throwing wide, careless punches, You are supposed to throw your punches from the jaw and keep a tight defense.. easy to counter and stop fighters like these inferior mma 'strikers'
I have watched a few ufc fights and i'm not really impressed, when the so called 'strikers' throw their punches, they throw them very widely and they don't keep their hands on their chins.. You can't get away with that at top level boxing, you will be stopped real quick!
And whilst there may be some skill in securing the actual submission, the 3 minutes prior to getting the submission consists of 2 sweaty, grown men rolling around in weird positions is borderline gay shit.
The ground and pound is skill-less and class-less, i don't see any skill in getting on top of a man :/ and punching him whilst he is down and unable to defend or attack back.. Anybody can do that.
Lastly, there is some annoying, pussy voiced ufc commentator who is always attacking boxing, any ufc fight i have watched, he has always attacked boxing.
Thats low down and dirty, you could kill somebody doing that, where to now for Margarito? How well will he do now without illegal wraps? Mayorga even nearly lasted a full 12 rounds with a 37 yr old Mosley, Margarito couldnt
I guess you were unable to find the 234 threads made about this topic already since noon.
:)
Hey bro, im all the way down in Australia, just woke up and checked the news here
ufc copy everything boxing has done, they followed the boxing blueprint! using 'tale of the tape', having one of the Buffers as their announcer, even their referees copy boxing referee catchphrases i.e Mills Lane's - "lets get it on"
Speed can win a quick, flashy fighter a UD, but being a murderous puncher can win you many KO wins - one punch can end a fight at any times.
How many times have you seen a fight where it looks like the quick boxer is going to take an opponent to school with fast and flashy combo's then bang the puncher ends the fight with only a punch or 2
ok, its a shame to have such a talent just training in the gym not being able to showcase his talent worldwide,
they couldn't have him take the espn FNF route and get exposure?
I will looking out for his next fight, interesting as i read an article of him moving up to HW in the future
the thing with haye is, he is actually a natural HW, 6ft3, who was boiling down from 230 lbs to the 200 lb limit. So he has even more advantage than all of the other CW champs who moved up, to do well
and colombian chicks are fuckng hot big ass, curly black long hair, coca cola bottle body.....
fck yeah.
What the fck do these guys eat in Columbia? anyone have any idea of a typical columbian meal?
what a load of trash...what about Chris Byrd?
what about Michael Moorer?
i'm talking about cruiserweight titlists who've moved upto HW and been successful.
Moorer moved up from LH
He was about to get knocked out by a past his prime Lewis and was cut beyond recognition. Vitali is not that good as you make him out to be just because he gave a past his prime Lewis a challenge.
Lewis could of brought a baseball bat into the ring he still wouldnt have KO'd VK the iron chin, vitali was dominating Lewis, and Lewis would of been the one KO'd had the fight not been stopped
where are you from?
are you an aussie?
in canberra at the am tourneys the hall is usually packed
Go to any amateur card on a sunday in Melbourne, and you'll see the joint is packed, no doubt about it
yeah because there's no skill involved in mma..... :nonono:
boxers are better skilled boxing.
that doesn't mean mma guys have no skill.
they're mostly wrestlers and brazilian jiu-jitsu guys that's why they're not that good at boxing.
mma is not bar room brawl like as it used to be 15 years ago.
i should have pointed that out, yes alot of those guys do have skill, they have muay thai, kickboxing, jui jitsu backgrounds, but when ive watched ufc they point out before the brawl that fighter A is trained in kickboxing, fighter B is trained jui jitsu, then the brawl starts and hardly any of their skills come into play, they start throwing wild strikes, or end up wrestling on the mat trying "mount" their opponent, which looks very distressing. it doesnt matter what they're trained in, the shit still turns into a wild brawl.
Boxing will always be around and will always be popular, the history of this sport is very rich. Go to any gym and you'll see the gym full. Boxing is all about skill - technique, good stance, footwork, hand-eye co-ordination, head movement, throwing fluid combo's. MMA on the other hand is just some wild brawl shit, throwing wild looping "strikes" and hope they land, 2 full grown men wrestling on the mat, which looks very disturbing. throw an MMA "striker" in the ring with 16 oz gloves and see how he goes standing up with no wrestling against a boxer-puncher. on the other hand, throw a boxer-puncher (say, a kessler, who throws quick hard accurate punches) in the cage with those tiny gloves and see how the "striker" goes.. He could try take the boxer-puncher down but would get KTFO trying to step in a close and "shoot"
hahaha:rofl:, somebody on this forum said that vitali may of not been impressed with the rabbit punches peter gave wlad in their fight. vitali is going to destroy sam peter "rabbit"
I know there has been a shit load of threads on David Haye and most ofthem started by our friends over there in the UK. I have only seen him fight 2 times one of th soe fights being against Enzo Macc and that wasn't a very long competitive fight. Now I know we all of us here in the US and across the world are looking for some excitement out of the Heavy Wieght Divison and to my friends who love Vald and Vitali I just have to say they aren;t getting the job done. I am not saying they aren't great and skilled fighters but there matches are boring to say the least. I took a look at the current Heavy Weight Rankings and I see Haye at #4. I ask myself is this a valid ranking for a guy who has never stepped into the ring at that weight class? Now I know he is a super Cruise wieght with some serous power down in that division but how does he match up against the much bigger fellas in the HW division. I mean there are some monsters there.....Also shouldn't he ataleast fight one tune up fight there before getting a ranking of #4 or is the HW division just that bad????>........Lefty
Haye will bring excitement to the Hw division, check his fights out, he has an exciting fan friendly style, he tries to knock his opponents out as quick as possible, not a wlad style jab, right hand, hug for 8 boring rounds then KO. Haye has stepped upto heavyweight, he KO'd a legit 230 lb heavy with a quick 1,2 combo in the first round of the fight. I also reckon he should have a few tune up fights to give a better impression of what he can do at HW.
one thing is disagree on is that none of vitali klitschko's fights are boring
Using the Ottke loss against Mundine is like holding Margaritos first 3 losses against him or using Pacs early losses against him etc.
thats right, Mundine was very green when he fought ottke, that was hi amateur career, he had no right being in there with a world champ at only his 11nth fight, and he got caught with shot on the temple, you dont need a great deal of force on a punch to do damage with a shot to the temple, mundine's inexperience showed in that fight. fast forward to 2008, he is a competely different fighter, lightening fast hands, can punch from all angles, has decent power, and (despite the crazy kim knock down) good defense. He would of been trying to showboat when he was caught with that flush left hook to the jaw, he did get up and recover from that kd to win a unanimous decision. The Man is highly underrated. if he can leave the RJJ showboating behind, and focus on being more offensive, and putting more effort in finishing guys off when h hurts them, he will do damage at MW !!
Quote me on that when he gets a big fight at MW
