They both deserve respect for making the fight happen, regardless of who we thought won the fight. Both great fighters.
I doubt he was discouraged, probably more tired due to the constant wrestling. He definitely should have tried to apply more pressure, even if he thought he was ahead.
If Kovalev goes into the next fight with a few adjustments like cutting off the ring better and using his jab more, the task could be even harder for Ward. But then again, Ward has shown that he can get his resolve together and adjust in the fight and claw himself back into it.
Regardless of whether you like his style or not, think he has fought bums for the last few years (name one ATG who doesn't have bums on his record) if he wins the rematch and then beats Stevenson....He can't be regarded anything less than a great fighter.
Fight fans should be happy that the fight has been made, regardless of who wins or who you support. 2017 has been a good year and it got even better with this fight.

Anthony Joshua has used it in the past too. I also remember American Olympic swimmers with cupping marks last Olympics.
Whoever wins on Saturday deserves credit. I don't understand why some fans discredit the other fighter as that in turn discredits your fighter's win.
This is a tough fight for both men. Each one has the potential to win and I'm looking forward to it. Embrace the event, not poison it with negativity.
Another tough one to call imo. Ward has the skills to outbox him but showed he can also be caught. If Adonis lands that big left it could be lights out. Stevenson's left is a one punch KO shot. Unlike Kovalev who has more thudding shots and requires a combo of punches to get the job done.
Good match up. Let's hope it happens.
It'll be a good test for both fighters and will give us an indication of where Beterbiev is at. We all know he is a beast but can he cut it at the next level.
Surprisingly Kovalev did his fair share of holding in this fight but anyone who has done any sort of wrestling/BJJ knows some of those 54 holds in the video were either mutual grappling or initiated by Wards ducking in.
I think Ward would probably have had too much for Beterbiev at this stage. Beterbiev is a beast though and the Light heavyweight division has some potential fireworks.

I agree with you if the fighter needs that development time to iron out any mistakes he makes. Yarde seems to be levels above the guys he is currently fighting which won't do much for his development.
