I havent paid much attention to Ward to be honest. I think the last time i saw him fight was against Chad Dawson. Is he planning on a move to light heavy? Whats with the 171lb fight.
Kovalev is a dangerous fight for Ward. I dont think Ward can win that one, everyone else mentioned he beats probably with the exception of GGG maybe. I dont know how GGG and Ward match up size wise. If memory serves GGG is almost 6 feet tall so I would think they would be close. He probably needs another fight or two to be ready but hopefully we get to see him in with Kovalev or GGG soon.
Ive met a few. Tyrell Biggs, Tommy Morrison, Francois Botha and a three or four others I cant recall their names now. One was driving a car service for strip clubs in Vegas, lol. I cant remember the name of the guy I met in Vegas. he fought for a world title and was talking about a coming back. I want to say he was from Dominican Republic or maybe Puerto Rico, welter wieght or Jr. Middleweight I think. All were cool as hell except Botha, he was a snarling ******* but it could have been an off night for him.
I wouldnt talk smack to any of them. One I have a lot of respect for any man who can make a living at this game at a professional level and two while Im 48-0 (48 KO) on the skreet, Im pretty sure even Paulie Malignaggi would hand me my ass in lightining fast fashion.
Oh yea, The fighters heights are grossly exaggerated Im sure most of you know. Botha might have been 5'10" he is listed at 6'2". Morrison might have been 6'0" he is listed at 6'2". Biggs was probably closer to what he is listed at, if memory serves he was a little taller than me.
True, but you just forgot the part where Floyd, as an atg, gave JLC an immediate rematch and the chance for JLC to prove he was a superior fighter than Floyd, and JLC failed.
I didnt forget it. Thats the reason we are talking about Floyds place in the ATG list and not Castillo's. I can only assume he beat Castillo convincingly in the rematch. I havent seen that one either.
Hearns beats the brakes off Floyd in dominating fashion. Floyd is really fighting a weight class above where he should be even at this stage. This one isnt even close. I dont think Floyd would fight him anyway.
Collazo's pressure ain't **** on Ruslan's and Thurman doesn't like pressure. Run Time via UD or Ruslan knocks him the **** out.
Just quoting because I saw Connor McGregor in your sig. What a fight tonight right? Holy ****!!
I laughed loud enough to make my kids turn around and look at me when i read the title.
Hearns puts this guy to sleep with the first right hand he lands.
Really? Floyd easily outpoints this guy. Thurman is a flash in the pan, he wont be around long. Manny easily outpoints this guy so does Bradley. They were right he isnt on the same level.
Ill start by saying I think Floyd is def an ATG. Where exactly he belongs Im not sure but I think its probably somewhere between 20-30, probably closer to 30. Those rankings are ridiculous though.
One thing I did finally do was watch Floyd vs Castillo finally because of this thread. Oddly enough I had never seen it. That was a robbery on the scale of Pac vs Bradley or Whitaker vs Chavez to name a few. It was a competitive fight but the scores they gave Floyd were almost exactly what I gave Castillo. Dude got straight ripped off.
Ha, yea. Vitala is the only guy that can stand in front of this guy, get the **** out of here. Tyson Fury is about to be the heavy weight champion on of the world. Im looking fozrward to tihis fight,.
Wlad is about to get his ass handed to him whenever he fights Fury. Make no mistake though my friends Vtali would beat the **** out of any heavyweight this side of Lennox Lewis.
I would agree at this point Kovalev should be higher on the P4P ratings. I think the only guy out there with a real shot at him is Ward, Stevenson obviously has a punchers chance but I get the feeling the Krusher makes pretty quick work of Adonis. The only critique I really have of the guy is he looks a little off balance sometimes and I mean thats really nothing. it could cost him against a big puncher and Stevenson is that.
Floyd also never had the kind of speed Roy has. Floyd is quick, but Roy was lightning, floyd could pop, but roy was light outs. Floyd was hard to touch, Roy was untouchable.
I just can't conceive of a game plan for Floyd to beat Roy. Roy is fast enough he would have countered over one of Floyd's leads and put him to sleep.
I just cant see Floyd winning this, he either goes super defensive and loses a wide decision, or gets KOed trying to counter Roy.
Agreed on every point, wow. I gotta tell you guys, im used to talking to casual boxing fans who might have seen Roy in his 40s and trying to explain to then what he was. Its refreshing to actually talk to people who have a clues.
Roy Wins.
I just can't pick anyone to beat Roy Prime for Prime. He is simply the most gifted athlete to ever step through the ropes.
I cant tell you what it means to me to see some one actually say this. The first time I saw him and I had been watching boxing all my life to that point ( 20ish years) and I knew I wouldn't see anything like him again. I take nothing from Floyd, financially he took it to another level but Roy was greatness. He didnt capitalize on it like we would have liked but damn that fool had skills on a supernatural level.
I dont think it goes 12 to be honest. People tend to forget both these guys use to knock people out regularly early in their careers. Im not saying that is necessarily their primes but some where around it. Roy stopped knocking people out because he didnt want to hurt anyone mid career and knew he wasnt going to lose anyway, Floyds hands have been bad from jump. They both adjusted. Im talking young lion hungry for both.
It doesnt go 12.
Edit: I say that, when faced with world class opposition early both had the ability to know when to switch to win mode.
The Roy that fought Montel in that rematch vs Floyd that beat up Chico would have been the best display of boxing ever. But I gotta go w Roy. Too unstoppable in his prime. Virtually no weakness on his A game. That's my imo. I also watched both fighters careers live.
Its funny you mention this fight. This is the exact Roy I was thinking of. Roy pissed off and motivated at that point in is career is scary obviously.
Naw neither stops the other man, both would be the best either faced and both were far from easy to hit,i think it would be a high level chess match as neither would want to get to reckless due to the others power and accuracy
Ill just go ahead and give my opinion on it. The best defensive fighter Roy ever faced was James Toney and we all know what happened there. I think Roy stops Floyd sometime between 8-10. Roy has every advantage you can name save business savy in this fight. I really dont think its a close fight either styles being styles. Floyds hard to hit but Roy was impossible to hit clean in his prime. I think the first time I saw Roy take a shot was against Lou De Valle, Im not sure Floyd has took one yet he didnt see coming which is a testament to his skills but make no mistake Roy would check that chin.
It has to be noted that while Roy has the edge in physical gifts, Floyd has the edge technically.
Its actually a pick em fight imo. Floyd would be bamboozled by someone even faster than him with considerably more power, but Roy could get caught out by a guy with better fundamentals and almost as much speed.
This isnt a pick em fight in anyone's eyes who watched Roy in his prime. Technical boxing didn't matter then and Ill give you Floyd has it down pat. Roy broke the rules he didnt have to fight in an orthodox manner and he sure as hell wouldn't have against Floyd. Roy even at light heavy was not only faster than floyd with his hands his feet were as well as his body movement. Floyd isnt even on the same planet as far as boxing skill let alone athletic abiltity.
I see these guys fighting around 154-160 where Roy was destroying people in one shot. I dont see Roy taking Floyd out with one shot because lets face it Floyd has ATG skills but I truly believe we have never seen a better fighter and I mean ever as far as skills than Roy Jones Jr.. The ****ing guy was amazing. Floyd cant shoulder roll and pot shot a guy who is faster by hand and foot than him and who hit light a ****ing truck when he wanted to.
Like I said, he left a lot of meat on the bone. I wanted to see more from him but i can say that for just about every one of my favorite fighters. Floyd is in the same league as Roy but so is Sugar Ray Robinson. Neither of them could have landed a clean punch on Roy in his prime. I love them all just calling as i see it.
We often forget Roy went all the way to heavyweight and won a title, thats a pretty ****ing big deal. the guy was amazing in his prime, which lasted almost 15 years.
Edit: By the by my favorite fighter ever is my avatar so I know the game pretty well.
lol come on Larry, Floyd had a nice arsenal in his prime but he wasn't brutalizing guys like Roy did and he sure as hell wouldn't be able to hurt prime Roy. I agree about the chess match though and both guys were almost impossible to hit. Difference to me is Roy's explosive body shots. Roy by ud.
I agree with the difference between the two early on. Roy was a middleweight Mike Tyson for a while if you followed his early career. I remember seeing his 1st decision victory against Castro? Way back on tuesday night fights on TNT or ESPN. Ive got boxes of VHS tapes from those days. Floyd had serious pop but nothing like Roy early on.
I think Tommy blasts pre Steward Wlad out faster than Sanders did and I think he still has a legit shot at present day Wlad.Im not sure even todays Wlad could handle Tommys speed or power.
Tommy's problem was focus not talent. I really think the only fight he ever really, really trained for was Foreman. What a colossal waste. Could he have been a top ten all timer? No, probably not but he could have handled alot of the guys from the nineties and whitewashed every one of the bums fighting today save Vitali.
