I think so.....He started boxing in the mid to late 90's
guys like Jones and Hopkins were still young and in their prime and even improving as fighters....both started as pros in the 80's though
Mayweather's generation includes guys that were born in the 1970's-early 80's Trinidad, ODLH, Mosley, Cotto, Judah, Fernando Vargas, Wladimir Klitschko, Manny Pacquaio, Ricky Hatton, etc
He has the best resume IMO of the generation....,most lineal titles, title defenses, defeated the most champions and titlists
He has nothing left to prove and is actually fighting during the infancy of a new generation that is headed by Andre Ward, Thurman, GGG, etc
Yes, he Is the best fighter of his generation and will with out a doubt make the Hall Of Fame. However, he Is certainly not the best ever and does not belong In the top 10 best ever. His place In boxing history Is somewhere between 15-20 IMO.
Let me guess why floyd is entertaining to you...does it have something to do with sharing the same skin color?
Is Maywesther not entertaining to you because you don't share the same skin color?
Clearly stands head and shoulders over his competition that would qualify being the best of his generation.
And only to add to it...
He's beat mostly everyone who means something in boxing, even young up and comers.
Fans have made him a multi millionaire to watch him box. He's the biggest draw in the sport of boxing and owns world records in both categories.
All of this, with no sponsors, have made him the highest grossing athlete, on earth, over every other sport, ever played.
It's undeniable.
Has been ranked #1 P4P for a very long time. Is undefeated. Is the biggest PPV draw.
Beat "The Fighter of The Decade". Beat ODLH. Beat the current Middleweight Champion.
Is at the front for a drug-free sport. Has fans in every corner of the planet.
Yeah, it's safe to say Mayweather Jr. is the best of this gen.
Just don't say it infront of some certain psycho fanatics because they will get physical on you. Wackos
Yes...he's the KING of his era!!....he's beaten all the relevant fighters and champions of his era...he deserves proper respect....besides the last 8 rounds of the Zab fight and the last 10 rounds of the Mosley fight, it's been a pleasure watching him skillfully pick dudes apart....gotta respect his dedication....first ballot HOF...shouldn't be no less than top 15 on ALL respectable ATG lists imo
I've picked against Floyd THREE times....Zab, Shane and Cotto...I like those three more than I do Floyd....way bigger fan of those dudes than of Floyd's...but I still knew deep down that Floyd would some how find a way to win those fights....the great ones have that sort of habit
Let me guess why floyd is entertaining to you...does it have something to do with sharing the same skin color?
What the **** does skin colour have to do with finding a boxer entertaining?
Greatest BOXER of his generation.
Floyd Mayweather is a defensive minded boxer. Rarely engages in fights. Mostly makes a tactical chessmatch with fists.
He's the least entertaining fighter of all the top fighters in his generation.
Lmao. Isn't this sport calling 'boxing'? I'm confused.... I always thought the objective of boxing was to hit and not get hit. Being entertained is subjective. Floyd is extremely entertaining to me. He's apparently entertaining to millions of other people too, considering he has sold more PPVS than anyone else in boxing history.
Barrera and Morales had top quality opponents in the 90s and were world champs then. You're taking away impressive aspects of their careers by simply labeling them as 21st century era fighters. Which is why defining a generation can be hard. And kinda irrelevant.
Look at your post in the Thurman ATG thread
This is like an ego thing for you
Just spouting out arguments for the sake of it

Nah you just wanna argue for the sake of it
Their signature wins were in the 21st century
It's really easy to differentiate eras in this case
When we talk this era we are talking guys like
Bhop, Floyd, manny, Wlad, vitali, calzaghe,
Marquez, Barrera, morales
Castillo, corrales,
Winky, Mosley, delahoya
Sergio Martinez, Rigondeaux, ward,
Wonjongkam
Etc

True, but you just forgot the part where Floyd, as an atg, gave JLC an immediate rematch and the chance for JLC to prove he was a superior fighter than Floyd, and JLC failed.
I didnt forget it. Thats the reason we are talking about Floyds place in the ATG list and not Castillo's. I can only assume he beat Castillo convincingly in the rematch. I havent seen that one either.

No he's not. He's much more entertaining than both bhop and Vlad.

Ill start by saying I think Floyd is def an ATG. Where exactly he belongs Im not sure but I think its probably somewhere between 20-30, probably closer to 30. Those rankings are ridiculous though.
One thing I did finally do was watch Floyd vs Castillo finally because of this thread. Oddly enough I had never seen it. That was a robbery on the scale of Pac vs Bradley or Whitaker vs Chavez to name a few. It was a competitive fight but the scores they gave Floyd were almost exactly what I gave Castillo. Dude got straight ripped off.
