Maybe after he goes through Baldomir, they can finally have this fight. With the plethora of poor matchups and cards thrown together to get a fighter through with the lest danger possible, I suggest to you that this is a real danger for Saul and his folks know it.

Sorry AD, I gave part of my response to you in reply to sebastian. The business of boxing is not rational in terms of pure sport. Lots of odd and arbitrasry things. Fonso said at the press conference, there are others in this weight division more deserving of this shot and he feels bad for them. He said up front, I know they have me in this spot because they don't fear me knocking out their boy O'Alvarez. Fonso is a sharp and bright bulb!!! But he added, I am not in this to be the opponent, put in a good showing and go home happy for the opportunity. He said I will KO Saul. I am gonna take this belt. I believe him. Ask around and MANY respectable voices in this game will tell you this is a WINNABLE fight for Alfonso. He needs to get in his zone and stay there and he will upset this kid.
Respect Vanes and His Opinion; however,
I have a great deal of respect for Vanes. I have followd him to many fights, and know he is a budding star. I was not a fighter, so I can't begin to counter his opinion. I have no doubts Julio is improving. With Freddie and the Wild Card environment, it is a natural.
However, ALfonso Gomez is kind of the "Rodney Dangerfield" of boxers. No one ever gives him much credit and it is absurd. He is talented and has heart he can lend out. Chavez will lose this fight unless it goes to the cards. I am sure the Chavez win scores have already been filled out and sealed. It matters not, ASG will KO or TKO him in the 9th round.

I think you all miss the point. Alfonso wants to ensure an action packed fight with some tension and what better way than to do a little smack talking. He doesn't do that very much, so he is doing it with purpose. Watch the video of him solving a rubik's cube in 2 minutes. You all overlook his intelligence. He is setting a trap and Canelo is a young kid who will step into it. Gomez will win this fight lads!
Simple Message: Gomez Will Live Up to His Word
Alfonso has said he will knock Chavez out. I believe him. Chavez only real fight against a serious opponent was Duddy. Duddy is too slow, so no danger. FOlks figure that Gomez is a safe tune-up and transition to COtto. Mistake- Gomez has fought lots of quality opponents, and except for one night, when he might not have been 100% if you can understand that, he has met all challenges. Ask Miguel Cotto himself. He watched Gomez beat Karass, and he understands the game. I doubt his money would be on Chavez to win. Freddie will do all he can to get this boy ready to fight a man, a man disrespected, and underrated by so much of the boxing audience, but you will see he is gonna kick Chavez ass around the block on Dec. 4th!

Chavez Is Gonna Lose
Gomez will rip Junior a new one. Arum sees this fight as a test for Chavez and he is correct. Alfonso must try to get the TKO or KO because the decision cards are stacked against him. After Dec. 4 Junior will be making plans for the spring but they won't include Cotto. He and his people see this as a tune-up. Wrong!
I take Peter too. I have known him when he trained at the Wild Card in LA. He is a good guy with plenty of talent. Peter you are gonna do this. Do it convincingly.

Thanks for giving Alfonso to tell his point of view in his own words. I know many people are hyper-crotocal of him because of the COntender "reality star" thing and because of the bad loss to COtto. He is a very intelligent and gutsy guy. Anyone who thinks he is a push-over and will be swarmed over by Canelo is badly mistaken. Yeah, the buzz about Chavez Jr. is growing, and I know nothing about him from a human standpoint; yet, I know ALfonso pretty well and I can tell you he intends to win. That isn't smoke he is blowing, and when he says he can win, he does. So, it is all speculation now, and the fight determines everything, but I believe that Alfonso will live up to his word and move forward in his career.

Gomez Wins Hands Down
THis is a fight that Alfonso has wanted for a long time and Chavez and those handling him have avoided. They assume the size is now their leverage and of course Freddie's training. Freddie is a great trainer, and he knows Alfonso well. I will tell you that Alfonso will do to Chavez what Manny does. He will be faster and quicker than Chavez thinks. He thinks better in the ring, and has been tested against size before. Chavez learned to go into deep water with Duddy, but he will drown aginst Alfonso. People Want Alvarez vs Gomez
We all love to see a good fight and this would be one. Alfonso is in his prime years and needs a win to move forward toward bigger fights. Alvarez wants to keep that 0 in his loss column, and has youth going for him.

Agree with Punchnot seen...there is always so tactical challenges to get to your opponent, and Gomez doesn't have a racist bone in his body. TO wish him brain damage is a horrible thing to say. Gomez has been more verbal leading up to this fight, and I have to believe he is using it to influence what goes on in the ring to give him the best advantage. Maybe he wants Caenlo to go toe to toe early on...I guess we will see. I wish them both good luck and good health. I have known Gomez a long time and hope he reaches the top of the mountain this time.

Alfonso Is Right Opponent and Will Beat the Kid
I am so weary of the Alfonso naysayers berating his talents. OK, I know exhibit number 1- Cotto beats him in bad fight. OK...throw it out. Why? There are reasons that lots of fighters are not coming into a fight at their best but go through with it anyway because it is a great opportunity. Look at the rest of his record. He has fought and defeated not just legends at the end of careers but younger opponents (Karass, Feliciano), and bigger guys (Manfredo, Brinkley Khaddour). GO on and beat your gums guys but you got it wrong.
He is a worthy opponent, and more than that, he will put on a very entertaining bout. The kid has NEVER faced someone with Alfonso's skills and power. I am sure that his corner thinks much like you that Gomez is right choice because he isn't a real threat. Thanks for the opportunity. Gomez will beat the kid.

After seeing the replay of the three head butts, Ortiz deserved something. IN the moment, I was all over FLoyd, and he should have showed more restraint, but he got cheap shotted too! Go on to the next guy FLoyd, Manny P., and Ortiz get yourself sorted out and fight someone else. You have to earn your way back to a title shot. Own your piece of what happened.

Freddie Is a Class Act as a Trainer and Human Being
Freddie dies this all the time. He does so many good things for folks in the community and boxers in the gym. I am proud to have him as a friend.
I am glad he is taking Julio Chavez Jr. under his wing to teach valuable lessons of life. Nothwithstanding, I am an avid Gomez fan and wish him success in this fight but I am glad Junior is learning about life outside himself..

Gomez to Win
Time after time, I hear the same old yarn that Alfonso is no match for this guy or that guy. He has fought the elite of the division. He is a tough no-nonsense boxer. His last against Porter was one heckuva good fight. He came up on the losing end that night but it was a war. Ortiz has shown serious character issues under pressure but I won't hold that against him. It should be a great fight but I take Alfonso on more ring experience in tough.
I hope it goes through and it will be a good evening of boxing.

Mosley skips aound ring with Mayweather and gets million dollar payday to try to avoid manny. But Gomez loses to Cotto so his career is OVER. I know their games pretty well. I spend lots of time in gym with Vanes at WC in Hollywood. I think Vanes said it best on some website. He said go to Gomez first and IF you make it through I will be waiting. I honestly don't think Saul O' Alvarez will beat Fonso. If he does I guarantee you that Vanes beats Saul. I told Alfonso 4 years ago that next to Manny, the best fighter I see at WC is Vanes. Threre are other excellent fighters- now with Amir, etc. Vanes beats Saul if he gets by Fonso and that ain't gonna happen.

Watched this young warrior against Jose Cotto. Good fighter. He has power and love the red hair on top- his Irish lineage is sneaking through. Nonetheless, my horse has been and remains Alfonso Gomez. ALvarez lacks the quality experience and rounds that Alfonso has put in. ALfonso has been hit harder by Manfredo, Khaddour, Brinkley, Feliciano, and Karass.
ALfonso will school him and the midsection looked wide open. Alvarez left hook will not connect on Alfonso to much avail, but Alfonso could drop the kid with body shot.
Top Rank vs Golden Boy. Leave the contestant talk to the announcers as it fills air time. ALfonso is a REAL TIME fighter. Just check his credentials- forget that some rounds aired on tv.

Weight won't be an issue for me. Well, "isnt that special!" Alfonso has to come up to 157 from 147 fights of late, and you are in your comfort zone. It is like saying I use my teeth chewing gum.
