According to a source with knowledge of the negotiations, former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KOs) may return to the ring on September 6th against veteran Alfonso Gomez (23-6-2, 12 KOs). The fight would headline a card at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Ortiz has been inactive since last June's TKO loss to Josesito Lopez. During that match Ortiz suffered a broken jaw that required several surgical procedures. Gomez has been inactive since last July's loss to Shawn Porter.
Also, former champion Rafael Marquez is possibly going to return to faction on the undercard. As previously reported, the younger brother of Juan Manuel Marquez signed a four fight agreement with Golden Boy Promotions. Marquez, now training with Nacho again, wants to eventually face the winner of the August 24th clash between WBC champion Victor Terrazas and mandatory challenger Leo Santa Cruz.
