BoxingScene.com's Lem Satterfield broke the new on Wednesday that Alfonso Gomez has emeregd as the frontrunner to face WBC silver middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on December 4th.

Gomez last saw action in March when he stopped Jose Luis Castillo.  Gomez told BoxingScene that he welcomes the challenge that Chavez, the naturally bigger fighter brings. He also says the fight is long overdue.

"It's funny how he didn't take a fight with me when he was at welterweight."

Welterweight is Gomez's normal fighting weight and in a previous interview on BoxingScene he mentioned that fighting Marcos Maidana at a catchweight of 143 or 144 pounds interested him.

In order to fight Chavez, Gomez will have to move up in weight instead. Gomez said that he has no problem moving up to accept the undefeated Chavez's challenge. The former 'Contender' series participant said that his willingness is what sets him apart from Chavez. "It just shows what kind of fighter he is and what kind of warrior I am."

Vanes Martirosyan and Nonito Donaire are expected to appear on the undercard in separate fights.
