He didn't just use boxing skills. He was the bigger man with the larger reach. Canelo's a small 168/175lb fighter. He's only 5'7"/5'8" Kov's a legit 6ft. That's a 4/5 inch difference. That strategy doesn't work the same against a much bigger guy. But Canelo has been fighting bigger/taller guys and beating them. So yes, Crawford did use a lot of his boxing skills and not just his size alone. If he rely on his size more than his boxing skills then he would have bullied Canelo and walked him down, but Crawford was still very cautious and box carefully.
