Had Donaire fought Anselmo Moreno it still would have been a terrible fight
Just a bad style match up is all. Donaire came to put on a show and the other guy came to survive with a huge check. Moreno is no different to Narvaez as he's also defensive minded southpaw, although taller. Had Donaire fought Moreno as originally planned the fight wouldn't have looked any different IMO.
Donaire seriously needs to move up ASAP.
It’s been a couple years but I think this should be brought up. I still remembered when people sh@t on Pac’s skills back then, saying that he was not a skilled fighter and that he only fought a one dimensional style and only looked good against brawlers.
I think it’s time to admit that Pac has always been a skillful fighter and a great boxer. Probably not technical in the traditional way but still skilled in his own unique style.
Bump. I still find it fascinating how people back then saw Pac's boxing skills as lacking, completely ignoring the subtle things he does such as feints, angles, and setting up traps. There were even some people that said that he didn't have that ability to counter punch as well. Crazy to see how things change over time.
Of course. Both he and Darchinyan and maybe Arce are Hall of Fame worthy fighters. Donaire has become highly underrated these days but he's had a dominant career before running into Rigondeaux. It's a shame that his later losses have been overshadowing his overall excellent resume.
Crazy to think how people viewed Rigo as this master boxer who couldn't be beat awhile ago. I think looking back at some of Rigo's fights, as skilled as he was with his style, he really was pretty one dimensional. Rarely fought inside, no jab, waited long for counters without engaging, and overly reliant on his left.
Bump. No denying that Donaire is a definite HOF, and also an ATG in my opinion. Never backed down on anyone, very humble even in defeat, and has bounced back. A win over Inoue (very tall order) would cement his ATG status.
I always saw G-Man as one of the most vicious, brutal fighters to ever step in the ring next to Roberto Duran and a prime Mike Tyson. He was that ferocious.
G-Man was an unpolished gem who had the potential to be the best MW, just needed more refinement in his technique and his puncher mentality. He showed that he was capable of boxing with his range but fell in love with his power so much to the point that he wanted to get his opponents out in 3 rounds or less, which was his downfall.
Had it not been for his fight with a huge puncher like Julian Jackson (who basically shook off Jackson's best punches like they were nothing) I don't think the blood clot in his head would have happened.
Hey Paula,
You know who else was gradually going up. Floyd. Floyd at 18 is the same weight as manny at 18. The difference was Floyd was in amateurs while Pac was fighting pro. Pac started young at age 16 he was pro already, the guy is still growing.
And you know who is heavier now knowing they used to be the same weight at age 18?
Floyd is, he is heavier to this date, he fought cotto at 154. So why single out manny?
When there is a guy who grew like him and who does vampire facial and xylocain? Paula wants a cracker.
And being 147 is a big weight? Jeez I have a friend who is 5'6" and Who is 180lbs. is that unusual? Paula is fuvking hater.
Great post.
You know who else fought at a heavy weight division while also being short in stature? Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Hall of Fame and ATG LHW fighter who fought at cruiserweight and heavyweight was 5'5 1/2"! Good God, Paulie is really trying too hard to give an excuse to downgrade Pac to mask his envy. It's really pathetic.
I'm honestly still interested to see this fight after he gets through with Wilder. I think Fury should be able to outbox Ruiz in much more impressive fashion than AJ.
I would really like to see this fight made down the road. People are going to try and compare Inoue's performance against Donaire to Rigondeaux's. But styles make fights.
I'm not sure if Rigo has still recovered mentally from the Loma loss but it would be interesting to see if he can give Inoue a difficult fight.
I dont wanna see a mismatch for the undisputed crown. Let Manny get sorted out first. Then Spence vs Crawford cuz thats the only 50-50 fight.
Both of them will mop Manny
I have no idea where you guys are getting this quick assumption that those 2 would just steamroll Pac so easily. You DON'T know that since those 2 haven't even fought the same level of competition as Pac or Thurman. If you think an ATG like Pac would be easy work then I don't know what to tell you.
Not sure why everyone is so against Crawford and Spence facing each other first before Pacquiao. Pac just beat an undefeated fighter in Thurman, now it's their turn to try take the other guys 0.
Because we all know whats the match up at 147 as soon as Crawford moved up to 147.
Look when i say they would mop Manny i dont mean a complete Shut out. Manny will win those first rounds. But Manny is old and obviously can't keep that pace up over 12 rounds. Its a reason he didnt fight them in the first place.
Spence is relentless and gets stronger the second half while 40 year old Manny slows tf down
Crawford gonna give Manny nitemares of Marquez which is skill wise even worst than Spence.
If that’s supposed to be the biggest match up of 147lbs then let those 2 fight already. Make that fight happen right now. I don’t know what the big deal is. Pac has already paid his dues and fought the very best. What’s wrong with him waiting on those 2 to fight first? The idea that Pac would be a tune up for either of them is an insult to Pac and he should not be subjected to that.
Damn... we were so close to having a Spence showdown with Pac. Now that Spence is out maybe it really is time for Spence to face Crawford before another freak injury occurs. Maybe after Spence recovers we can FINALLY see Spence and Crawford duke it out, and then the winner faces the winner of Pac/Ugas.
It's incredible that we STILL haven't gotten the supposed "best" WWs to face each other yet. And yet here we are.
Bruh...the same way u keep asking whats wrong with etc. I can ask you whats wrong with Manny fighting the winner of Spence/Porter? They both with PBC its a easy fight to make.
Because you're implying that Spence vs Crawford is the biggest fight to be made in the division, based on the assumption that Spence will beat Porter, and then have Pac face Spence before Spence can fight Crawford. You are basically saying that Pac would be a stepping stone for either Crawford or Spence, which is an insult for an ATG legend like Pac.
Neither Crawford or Spence has fought the same level of competition as Pac. And yet Pac has to be the tune up fight for either Crawford and Spence before those 2 fight? I don't buy it.
Again, get those 2 to fight first, and then the winner gets the chance to face the legend and prove who's the best WW. Simple.
Like i said i dont wanna see Manny get retired for the undisputed crown. I rather see the two best undefeated 147lbers fighting for the crown
And plus thats the only way u see those promoters doing business anyway...when all the chips on the table.
Pac would have another chance at daring to be great and would be in a win/win situation at this point. If Pac were to lose to the winner of Crawford/Spence for the undisputed crown then it would be a fitting passing of the torch. If Pac were to win against the winner of Crawford/Spence for the undisputed crown and then retire that would be another legendary career defining victory and a great finish to retirement. What exactly is wrong with this scenario?
The reason why we need Spence and Crawford to fight each other first is because we want to see the best face each other ASAP while Pac is still in the game before he considers retiring soon. It would makes sense to have Pac face the winner of Crawford/Spence because it would have an even bigger impact on both sides. The winner of Crawford/Spence beating Pac would be a fitting passing of the torch. If Pac were to actually beat the winner of Crawford/Spence then that would become an even bigger win and further elevate his ATG status.
Pac has already done so much already, not sure why he has to go through the trouble of still having to face either or if those 2 haven’t even fought each other yet when they’re supposed to be “the best WWs”.
Still stand by what I said. Spence and Crawford, 2 guys who are supposedly the best WW right now, HAVE to fight each other first before facing Pacquiao. It's ridiculous how people are wanting Pac to face either one or both when those 2 have not even fought yet, let alone fought the best competition compared to Pac and Thurman.
Let those 2 duke it out and see who the superior fighter is, then the winner faces Pac. Simple.
Is op serious?
Fury’s defense consists of taking punches with his head and getting dropped on his ass. And then getting up like a coked up addict.
Canelo is one of the best fighters p4p and has never been dropped.
Lol at putting those two in the same sentence.
Yes I am serious. Nothing wrong with putting these 2 in the same sentence.
Guys like Pernell Whitaker, Willie Pep, Nicolino Locche, Miguel Lora, James Toney have all been dropped on their ass and even stopped yet they're called one of the best defensive fighters.
I don't recall Fury ever getting consistently hit in the head other than getting dropped twice by arguably the hardest puncher in boxing right now.
What makes a great fighter is the ability to bounce back even after being on the downslope. No one believed Pacquiao could come back after getting KO’d by JMM or be able to still hang in there with the young fighters at his age. Duran had his share of having his career in doubt but he still went ahead anyways after bad losses to SRL, Benitez, Laing, Hagler, Hearns, etc.
It really does show that having losses doesn’t hurt your legacy as long as you keep moving forward and proving people wrong.
At the end of the day Pacquiao represents everything right about the sport. He has the old school style and mentality to keep wanting to challenge himself and defying the odds.
May would have EASILY kept his 0 vs those guys :lol1:
Why do you think Pac fans REFUSE to give up those 8 names ?!?!?
Oh boy, here we go with woulda, coulda, shoulda.
This isn’t about May, this is about who Pac has beaten and how those wins elevated him to ATG status. I can say that Sugar Ray Leonard can easily run through May’s resume no problem. It doesn’t work that way kid.
It’s not that boxing fans refuse to give any names, it’s that it’s a waste of fcking time having to deal with guys like you who goes out of his way to hate on a living legend.
