This is just a boxing stradergy, they want Cotto to start strong so he can gas out and then Manny will try to break Cotto apart at the end. I'm sure the plan is to take Cotto into deep waters and then finish him off. In the first six rounds Cotto has always been strong its at the end where he falls apart. It happened with Mosley, Margarito and Clottey its possible he gets tired again.
i think people should stop complaining about the weigh-in and wait for the fight night weight, THEN complain or not.
Its kind of fun though when there's this much interest in a certain topic.
The boxing atmosphere in here is great during these days.
I guess tomorrow is election day. Some people come in happy some don't, but its all apart of life so I hope it doesn't affect some fans as much as it affected Hatton's fans when he lost.
Have you ever seen the boxing scene video. You can watch it every time you look up boxing scene on google. Its a scene from the movie Cool Hand Luke.
That's how fans have to react during good or bad times just like Luke - Cool that way you might just be able to take the heat if your fav. boxer loses.
The key difference here between Marquez at 125 0r 130 and Erik Morales is that they're were fast fighters that are well conditioned.
So they had some speed to be able to match with Pacquiaos own. Cotto must come ready and show some of the quickness he showed at 140, but he must be prepare for all twelve rounds. Cause theres was no questions that Morales or Marquez could go 12 rounds back then when they fought Pacquiao.
Haters, it shouldn't be banned, but I just feel its an answer some use poorly without giving explanations. Because some fans have reasons to use it, but others just use it when they don't know what else to say.
Everyone roots against the fighter they like the most. It's common sense. If you didn't like Cotto I bet you were rooting for Pacquiao even if you're not a Pacquiao fan. and if you are a Pac fan and Pac loses to Floyd then you will root against who ever Floyds fights next. But almost everyone likes Pac. Only those who don't want him to be known as the greatest root against him. Fearing he might be known as being better than their favorite fighter.
He does not fool me, even if he beats Pac thats just a head to head match up, that does not make him a better fighter, legacy/resume it what makes you a better fighter.
That's like Paul Williams beating Floyd Mayweather. Styles make matches, but There are few warriors like Pacquiao and many Mexicans and Puerto Ricans.
Before last night I would have gave the edge to Manny over Floyd. Now I am sure that Mayweather beats Pac. Simply because Manny needs someone to stand in front of him. Manny looked great when Cotto stood and traded with him(something Floyd will not do), Manny landed flush when Cotto lunged in and swung wild(also something Floyd will not do). When Cotto started trying to stay away, Manny could not let off combinations. Cotto started backing away and using his jab, thats when Manny didn't look so great or land so flush. Instead Manny was getting frustrated and stopping in the middle of the ring with his hands down. Floyd will do that to him all night. Floyd by wide UD in similar fashion as the Marquez fight. I think it will be bad match making on Pacquiaos handlers part if the fight is made.
Than Manny will have no choice, but to pound him against the ropes and to the corner.
He is been Damaged goods for long time now, I missed the post fight interviews, anybody can tell me if The HBO glorified cheer leaders cry this time, you know Jim lampley and company?:fest30: :bottle:
Only thanks to Tony , he's nothing like other Mexican fighters.
Cotto would've taken those shots better about a year ago. It happens all the time. Gatti, Hatton, Vargas, Mayorga, E.Morales. Once you get pounded one or 2 times you're never the same. Cotto fight with Margarito gave him double the damage. It will end up in history as not only what contributed to his first lost, but perhaps all the other losess that came afterwards.
Fight should be at 147 and Manny will win anyway I think.
Manny is a legit WW now IMO.
That would make Cotto mad. He did some extra training and almost disappeared his face. But I do Believe the fight will end up at 147.
Floyd and Quintana have become a VERY powerful shield. Rather then bringing Floyd to your defense why don't you just prove him wrong?
Why waste his time with people that won't listen even if their lives depended on it. They will come up with another thread with another B.S. It has to end somewhere. One can answer when they feel like. nothing here is on even terms so screw it.
I like to know if Marquez has any limit what so ever. Being it age or weight. Theres always a limit so where is it? At 150 pounds and 40 years old? Lets get something straight JMMarquez is a great fighter, but he hasn't shown to be any better than when he was fighting at 125,130. He might be still capable of beating bigger fighters, but no one should buy in to thats he's better than he was before. This coming from a Marquez fan.
I really dont know for certain. Pacquiao power comes mostly from his speed, but Cotto chops fighters down like a tree. You also have to realize that Cotto has been fighting bigger fighters. while mannys record comes mostly from the lighter divisions. Still manny has a good punch, but i'm not sure he will be knocking out real welter weights, while I believe Cotto can.
Mosley should expose Williams like he did to Margarito. If Quintana can do it so can Mosley.
Mosley has the good long reach to fight the same way Quintana did against Paul Williams from a distance. Other fighters have to get too close to williams to do him any damage. Mosley can clinch inside too evoiding Paul Williams reach. But its still a hard task and easier said than done.
No boxer has God by his side during their fights. Manny might have God in the inside, but during his fights he's on his own. He does have his country by his side.
Well I feel JMMarquez doesn't have enough rest from his last fight. He was getting hit and then came with a comeback to win. Fighters usually take about 6 month of rest. Especially Floyd. Its not like Marquez last fight was a walk in the park he had a difficlut time. He's face was battered. For the Floyd Mayweather fight Marquez will be only have three months 1/2 of rest. Not much for an old man whos moving up in weight.
Might as well take advantage of his position. If it were Mayweather he would be asking to make more than Manny. So Manny can accept to fight Mayweather only if he gets more money than Floyd.
Mayweather Jr. is not the savior of Boxing. He's been retired for almost two years and now he'll fight about 2 or 3 more times and go back to retirement. Right when all the big fights were coming up for him, right when he was still in his prime, right after he made the big bucks he decided to leave. Now to come back for perhaps only one real fight with Pacquiao and retired again.
While Mayweather was retired Manny Pacquiao continued fighting th best the sport had to offer. Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz, De La Hoya, Hatton. Right after fighting Three battles with Erik Morales and fighting the undefeated Jorge Solis.
So who did more for the sport of boxing? How would fans feel if Manny Pacquiao now decided to retire avoiding to fight Mayweather, Cotto or Marquez? Would you criticize him to do what Floyd did? Think about it.
right now, manny pacman is carrying the sport on his back and making boxing exciting and bringing in casual fans, i know that, but thats not what this thread is about, at all.
You asked who the hell is there to replace Floyd? I told you he wasn't the savior and explained what he did and what Manny did. I also explained how Mayweather doesn't have much time left in boxing. Only about 2 or 3 fights.
Mayweather had his chance to be that man to replace De La Hoya, but he left in his prime and been out of the sport for about two years. so together with what i explained before Mayweather shouldn't be the man to save the sport. A fighter that wants to save the sport shouldn't leave the sport they should stay and help make others stars even if it at their own expense. Manny can lose now to a fighter and he might make that person the new star. just like De La Hoya made him a bigger star.
Taylors a nice guy. but after this last fight he might never be the same fighter again. I felt he should've clinched in the last round, but he still try to box with froch, but he didn't have much left which helped froch counter attack him. That last round really hurt him not only for that fight, but for his whole career.
One of the main reasons Floyd is coming back is to try to set up a fight with Pac. Pointless article.
Some just figure that because of Pacquiaos devastating victory over Hatton he might change his mind. But I think he wants to prove he's the best by defeating Pacquiao. But not everyone wil feel the same because they still see Manny as a small fighter who is fighting big.
I think this answers many questions that help to compare the difference a weight class makes and that not necesarry the winner should be consider better than the loser. I apreciate everyone responds. All have some valuable points. Anymore reasons and comments are still welcome.
Well I saw the fight again and I wanted to add that Ricky Hatton did move his head and avoided many shots with his head movement. Problem was he doesn't really jab his way inside. I also can tell by the fight that the referee didn't even give him any chance to work in inside. As soon as they clinched they got separated. This is ok for a clean fight, but it takes away Hatton chance to knock out pacquiao from the inside. I'm not saying Hatton would've won the fight, but that he would've had more of a chance.
Hatton just like many other fighters takes a rest in the clinch. If Mosley was separated as much as Hatton was he would have a hard time to avoid Margarito and will have a difficult time to beat Paul Williams if they ever do fight. The other big problem Hatton had was that he is always trying for a combination. This way he avoids protecting his face, because he's always planning to come with rights and lefts making himself predictable and exposing his face all the time.which enable Manny to measure him. The jab can is also used to blur your foes vision a bit. If Pacquiao ever fights Floyd and the referee separates them as soon after they clinch it might favor Pacquiao to win.
I just know that if he fights Marquez at 143 he'll have to fight Manny Pacquiao at 143.
Maybe thats the reason that he didn't want to give into moving down in weight.
