...having had time to digest what happened on saturday night i thought id post a few thoughts of mine on here to see if people agree.
firstly, the overwhelming defeat of Ricky by the incredible Pacman was, from a British perspective,is really hard to take. no matter how good a fighter Hatton was or was not, the interest, excitement and passion he generated from his fights for the people of Britain will never be seen again. he was a national icon here,a working class hero who came from nowhere to become a World Champion yet remained totally in touch with his roots. That was the reason he was able to gain a following of such enormous numbers who's loyalty would never waver,in victory or defeat!
as a huge Hatton fan i've got to say that id like to see him retire now as he truely has nothing left to fight for. In his 2 big chances to beat the best around he came up short, especially against Manny, and he now has to realise that he has found his final level as a fighter....very good, but not a great!
....and as for Pacquiao, well, i think he has just gained himself 60 million new fans, as any Brit who watch the fight must admit, he was brilliant! i've heard absolutely no excuse from anyone who watched it....and they've all said that they will be rooting for him when he surely fights Floyd next.
but as a sports fan and Britain id just like to say one more time....THERE'S ONLY ONE RICKY HATTON!!!
So much to talk about in boxing right now, right here's a different take.
Here in the UK i sense a real anger towards hatton for the first time in his career, times are hard economically worldwide and over 20,000 travelled to support him. For all that money they got 2 rounds of action, and some of them are pissed. Hatton really does push his 'man of the people' like a salesman and his customers feel cheated.
I wonder how it will affect his fanbase.
Ps. Any doubts that pacman would win were over the minute hatton walked to the arena, he looked terrified.
You know what...
I've been a big Hatton fan since the start, but saturday's fight got me quite pissed off with Ricky.
Where was your gameplan son? Where was the head movement you promised? He got so caught up trying to hurt Pacquiao he looked shockingly amateur and got picked apart. It was like watching Mayweather v Hatton all over again in quadruple speed.
I know the skill of Pac and the gameplan laid out by Roach was a big factor on Saturday, but I can't help but feel Rick really blew his chance.
He's a great guy and given us some great nights, but I felt so let down by his performance. Had he even seen Pacquiao fight before?!
Sorry Ricky but you sold yourself and your fans short on Saturday.....
and your better than that....
Well I saw the fight again and I wanted to add that Ricky Hatton did move his head and avoided many shots with his head movement. Problem was he doesn't really jab his way inside. I also can tell by the fight that the referee didn't even give him any chance to work in inside. As soon as they clinched they got separated. This is ok for a clean fight, but it takes away Hatton chance to knock out pacquiao from the inside. I'm not saying Hatton would've won the fight, but that he would've had more of a chance.
He probably wouldn't have won the fight but I agree, Bayless was right on them in the clinch. I knew that would be the case with Arum's fighter and as Hatton is an inside fighter, he could never win. Bayless let Malinaggi hang on all night.

Hatton just like many other fighters takes a rest in the clinch. If Mosley was separated as much as Hatton was he would have a hard time to avoid Margarito and will have a difficult time to beat Paul Williams if they ever do fight. The other big problem Hatton had was that he is always trying for a combination. This way he avoids protecting his face, because he's always planning to come with rights and lefts making himself predictable and exposing his face all the time.which enable Manny to measure him. The jab can is also used to blur your foes vision a bit. If Pacquiao ever fights Floyd and the referee separates them as soon after they clinch it might favor Pacquiao to win.
I was pretty livid to see Ricky get knocked out in such fashion. After a while though i calmed down abit and come to terms that Pac was just a level above. There was nothing more he could of done to win the fight & he was fighting out of his league but props for taking the fight. Maywheather & Pac are great fighters and to be fair there is nothing really to be ashamed losing to these guys, although he did get knocked out brutally by Pac. I think he can walk away and be proud of himself, he has overachieved if any... props to Ricky...he will be missed once he hangs them up im sure..
Im shocked at how bad Ricky looked..he looked like he never boxed in his life.
And Im shocked at how hard Manny hit at 140..I mean he landed bombs....
His power seemed to increase as well as his strength while keeping his speed. Pretty incredible...especially the KO.

yeah...i can definately see where ur coming from! got to admit that i was proper pissed off imediately after the fight....felt totally let down!
.....but then after talking to my mates and remembering some of the amazing nights and experiences watching Ricky, i kinda changed my mind. his fights were huge events for people who don't even like boxing, never mind Brit boxing fans. his appeal even penatrated the deep rooted loyaltys of football. i'm an example...i ****ing HATE Man City, but Hatton is one of my heros!!....Who else could do that????
.....and for the whole world of boxing he is a massive loss!....name me the next fighter to mobilise 35,000 fans to Las Vegas or anywhere else??? no other fighter in the world will ever do that again IMO

not to mention his "empty your bank accounts/refinance your homes" line......
personally, it WAS a waste of $50, considering the buildup, only to end up with some "microwave fight" b.s.
can't be mad at manny, he went in there, won decisively, and proved he's just on another level.....
i thought hatton would win.....but manny's the truth......:hail:

There is no shame in Hattons lose AT ALL. Pacquiao is just a superior elite fighter. Hatton has brought pride and glory to many of his fans and thats something Hattonites should remember rather then this upsetting loss.
Hatton is still a champion and a well ambassador to the sport. As far as Mayweather Sr. Hattonites should toss that dude to the curb.
Hatton hold your head up high, you dominated the LWW division with class. No need to feel bad loosing to a P4P #1 fighter. It was expected.....
