Im the biggest Floyd fan there is but he is too small. He is definatly P4P the best out there and should get way more credit then he does for fighting at a much higher weight then he belongs. There is no fighter out there even close to doing that except for a couple of HW's.
Floyd only walks around at 149/150 but still fights at 147 while most of the guys in that division walk around at 165 and up. How come people dont give him props for that? Watching the fight tonight you could see that he clearly doesnt belong there. He can still fight at 135 if he wanted too and should be at 140.
I think 140 is probally his prime weight but maybe 135 during and after the N'Dou fight. You would have a hard time finding anyone in history who could beat him at 140. Chaves or whoever. His body even looked lean and perfect. At 147 he looks so small. Baldy was so big compared to him. Even though he was clearly easily winning, you could tell that the size was still a problem for him and sooner or later it will catch up to him.
If Hatton wasnt such a punk then they could fight at 140 right now and it would be a Super fight. Im actually starting to get worried about Floyd. Margarito, Oscar, or whoever you name are not even close to him on a P4P level but they have a great chance of beating him just because he really doesnt belong at 147, let alone 154. I do beleive that he hurt his hand against Baldy. Baldy has a rock head. When Floyd was landing those hard shots you could tell that Floyd's hand was losing the battle just as much as Baldy's head. Baldy also pushed him around a little on the inside.
Now Floyd is strong and knows how to fight. Hatton & Cotto are much bigger & stronger then him at 140 but they wont be able to push him around or anything at that weight because he is a legitimate 140 pounder. At 147 he can only put on a couple of pounds. It would probally take him another 2 years to even have a chance to be a legitimate WW and I dont think he can ever be a 154 pounder. No way he can get up there. Oscar would outweigh him by 20 pounds on fight night and if he did get a few guys to help him put on weight then it wont be real and he would probally be real slow. He's not that tall so the weight doesnt have much places to go.
I like him to beat everyone out there but it also wouldnt surprise me if he lost to a Margarito, Shane, or Oscar. Most think Shane is his hardest fight but I actually think he is easier then the other 2. He's strong but he doesnt really force his weight on you. He just uses his punches for power. I think Oscar & espically Margarito could put some weight on him.
Floyd also seemed slower to me tonight. He's definatly not going to be as fast as he was at 130 and he's definatly not going to be as fast as he was at age 23 but he can still be very fast. However, your faster at your natural weight. He would still be alot faster at 140 then at 147. I also think he's starting to age some and his reflexes are still great but not as sharpe as they were. I think he may be feeling this some also and this may be a reason why he wants to retire soon. He doesnt want to get old in the ring and get his ass whooped.
If I was him I would definatly have another fight at 147 before I go to 154 but Oscar will bring the money & fame so I think he will fight him next at 54 but I really fear for him. I would really hate to see him lose just because of him being too small and because he's fighting at a much higher weight then he should be at. To me this is old skool stuff and people dont give him enough credit for it. Most guys now have to lose 30 pounds for fights but he is fighting at his actual weight and beating guys much bigger then him. If he beats Oscar, Shane, or Margarito then he is a straight up beast and a All Time Great without a doubt
If that's his accurate walk around weight and he can get to 135, why when he needs the money did he choose to come in above the JMM catch weight and lose loadsa money?
mayweather said in an interview about a year ago..that he could have stayed @ 135 and fought people in consetitve nights and won..and i believe him
LOL.
Same old shit then, right? Floyd is always talking about what he could do, but never acting on what he talks about doing. So f*cking DO IT! Don't just sit there talking about it.
Coulda woulda shoulda. F*cking DIDN'T!

Agreed, he's a Solid 140lb'r, but he's NOT too small for 147. There have been many fighters equal in size or smaller than Floyd who have found success at 147 and gone on to become Welterweight Champions. Buddy McGirt, Pernell Whitaker, Meldrick Taylor, Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Miguel Cotto, Andre Berto quickly come to mind, and I'm sure there are plenty more. Why should Floyd be considered "Too Small", why should he be the exceptions. Is he fuckin' special or something? Floyd is NOT too small for 147. Juan Manuel Marquez IS too small for Welter.
miguel cotto walks around at 175
shane mosley has fought at 154
berto has fought at middleweight and usually weighs 160 at fight night
Now Floyd cant make 140? Now Floyd is big enough to fight at 147?
Ive said the same thing for a long time now and Ive been saying it. Look at my threads. I think he can still go down in weight easily but I dont think he wants to because he's eventauly going to fight the big WW's and I think he feels that it will hurt him. Thats how I feel. I think if he goes down to 140 to fight Pac & JMM and then goes back to WW then he may come into the ring at 148 pounds again while Cotto is 162 or higher. You think thats ok?

Dude, all those guys were fighting eachother. Its not like they were fighting WW's when SRL & Hearns were there. You think Floyd would be worried aobut fighting Buddy McGirt. HIs size is nothing like the WW's of today. Sweet Pea is different. He's just like Spinks. With those type of guys size doesnt matter because they can basicaly just move and jab all fight. Like how Byrd can go to WW. Most fighters dont fight like that
I agree he's small for 154. 147, I think he could do well(which he has).
I think Floyd's best weight combined of quickness and power is 140. I think no one would really have a good chance at beating him at 140.

What are you hatorade drinking people talking about? Floyd is 5'9" and is a natural 147lb division fighter.
I dont see how you can call him small? Comparing him to Williams is dumb because Williams is a natural 154 that can cut to 147. Besides Williams or Margarito there aren't many that are bigger than him at WW.
Not wanting to fight JWW is a choice. JMM is all pussy and needs to stop cummin out his lips.
What about Oscar or Shane? They both fought at 135 and successfully moved up to 154 (we won't count Oscar's "victory" at 160). Hell, Oscar won his first belt at 130.
Everyone said that Evander Holyfield was too small to be a heavyweight champ and look at how good he was. He was faster and could move around more than any other heavyweight and that gave him a huge advantage. Floyd has the same advantage against dinosaurs like Oscar or Mosley. They've slowed down just enough for Floyd to be able to use his small size to his advantage.
Oscar was really tall and both him & Shane are still naturally bigger then Floyd no matter what weight they start at. Look at Chico. He started at 130 too but he could put on weight easier at the higher classes then Floyd.
All you have to look at is there weight. Oscar & Shane still both put on a good amount of weight when they fought at WW while Floyd only comes into the ring at the WW limit most of the time. At 154 both Shane & Oscar still put on a good amount of weight after the weigh in but everyone says that Floyd doesnt even walk around at more then 150.
Floyd can still fight at 135 easily while Oscar & Shane were huge at 135
Nice post and K comeing your way.
I agree 100% in what you say. Mayweather is too small for 147 and even 154. He is nearly the only one at 135 that went up on wieght successfully, most are either still fighting a the wieghtclass or force out.
He too his size, speed ( as you go up you slow down) and power most of all but he he still has the boxing ability to take him through and that is one of the thing that makes Mayweathe special.
maybe someday people will say he was better than SRL.

There are debates about PBF v Hatton, Cotto, Margarito etc on another thread is what i really meant and i want PBF to fight these guys b4 talk of other opponents from light middle onwards.
Fair enough, but all i was saying is PBF moving up weights to impress people. Moving up weights doesnt impress me much, because its old hat now. Who he actually beats is more impressive to me. He would impress me more if he fought people at 147 and below who i think coiuld beat him. He needs to be showing me they cant beat him!
Come on man, he would still be at 140 right now if Hatton or Cotto would fight him. You think he wouldnt fight them? He would fight them in a heart beat.
Ummmm... He did beat the WW champ (badly), so are you interested now? Roy Jones moved to HW and fought a guy who everyone knew he could beat. Its impressive, but he wasn't going to stay at HW and fight.

yes those two did it but SRL was a bit big for WW and jumped to MW.
Roy Jones is impressive too.
But both gut have speed was not lost and Mayweather is concentrating on techinie mostly.

He looked good to me.
The only thing I had a problem with was him throwing one shot at a time.
What ever happened to his combinations?
I mean, he was never the type to throw a 8 punch flurry, but he usually three those 3-4 punch combos all the time.
He used no combination punching.
If he keeps that up, someone will eventually time and catch him.
I think he's just throwing one punch at a time because he knows he can again some of these guys. Lampley made a comment around the 5th or 6th round, saying Floyd was beating Baldomir without much effort, throwing so few punches (like 40-50 a round).
Stop this talk of PBF moving up weights, like he is a show off or something. Roy Jones has already done it b4 winning a heavyweight belt and SRL won belts at 5 weights etc etc etc. Beat the proper WW champ first and only then will i be interested in who you fight at the higher weights.
