And all the Cotto discrediting predicted have come true. What I love most is that almost everyone who commented in this thread back then were sure Cotto would loose against Martinez. Lol
If it was about money for Cotto, he would be fighting Canelo, not Sergio. So for at least Cotto, it is about the title. Haters have to At least five him that. He left money on the table for history.
Sorry dude, as a Cotto fan I'm one of his faithful.
Canelo is going no where his people will be waiting in Cotto's locker room with a signed contract in hand win, loose or draw.
Why because like styles make fights rivalries sell fights and there is no rivalry bigger than the Puerto Rico vs Mexico rivalry.
go get some paragraphs bruja.
Sorry dude that you were un able to read my writting because of my poor writing skills. So let me try it this way, this fight is about nothing but money with the belt beinn added incentive.
A year later I watched GGG fight another opponent this time Murray and again he just moved forward with no regard for Murray's power, again flat footed. But he did look like the real deal he threw many combinations. He is fun to watch has a crowd pleasing style.
I bet people would say the same thing about Julio Ceasar Chavez Sr. One dimensional, not a complete fighter. Look I'm not comparing their careers or their resume's because there is a huge gap currently, I'm just talking about styles.
You can be a smart, effective puncher, with heart, will and a chin and be a great fighter. There are maybe like 4-5 guys in the history of the sport that are "complete" fighters. My whole point is can a guy utilize the tools he's given. Golovkin looks like he can use the tools he's given and he knows how to fight within himself. Will that carry to higher weights or tougher competition. That's yet to be seen but I feel like he's fairly close to complete because he fights exactly how he should fight for his skillset and natural ability.
Chavez was in a whole other level, he was a master at cutting the ring and a genius at smothering. Even when he was getting hit he continue to attack and took very short breathers. As much as I hate to admit it Chavez was something special. I never bought into the whole but he fought a bunch of cab drivers in MX. Usually when guys are pure hype or have fabricated records they choke in the first or second real challenge but this man beat them all without pause. Truly an all time great even though I wasn't a fan do to his appetite for kicking PR a*s. Mexico should always be proud to call him one of there own.
Stupid thread? Tito Trinidad was knocking people out left and right (WINNING) and at the end he was proven to be one dimensional. As for your arguiment about degrating a fighter, the same can be said about elevating the fighter above all the rest before he has truly proven himself.
I'm not hating on the guy because even though he hasn't fought any top 10 guys he is fun to watch. I just think once he faces an all around highly skilled top 10 BOXER a lot of his fans are going to be disappointed.
His amateur record is something like 360 wins to 5 losses. Probably the best amateur record in history. You can't build an amateur record like that on power alone. He has never been knocked down or hurt. He has won all of his pro fights and knocked out about 90% of them. He has defeated lots of fighters rated in the top 10 in the world and would have defeated many more but they won't fight him. He sure as hell is not avoiding Lara. If Lara can be knocked down twice by Angulo GGG will knock Lara out. He is much better than Angulo in every way. Get all these hypothetical GGG beaters in the ring with him and he will knock them out. He can't beat guys that won't sign the contract to fight.
I get most of what you say, but fighting Andy Lee proves nothing.IMO
Make dumb comment you get a dumb response. Triangle are dumb period.
My intention was sarcasm, nothing dumb about it again considering how most around here sh*t on Cotto for fighting and beating these same guys only more impressively. That being said I do agree that triangle theories mean nothing in boxing.
Kind of like how Lara dominated the guy that worked Cotto over.
Poor comeback on your part, considering the guy who worked Cotto over beat Rodriguez much more impressively then Lara just did.
The problem is that GGG's shot at stardom is dependent on a Cotto or Canelo fight and if neither guy gets in the ring with him his career will be left in limbo. Unless of course if he moves up which IMO is not fair to the guy because it's not like he struggles with making the MW limit. But your right we should stop saying he is picking on little Cotto. But what people are missing with Cotto and the whole "I'm not a MW" statement is that he is not saying he doesn't belong in the MW or that he won't fight MW's what he is saying is that he will fight them but they have to fight him at a CW to balance out the natural size deference.
It is simple. He is holding up GGG's career by holding the belt hostage he does'nt need in a division that by his own admission he does'nt belong in. I wish he would just vacate because I don't want to see GGG kill him.
Ok,
One GGG is not killing any skilled fighter like Cotto who has fought every style in boxing. Two if Cotto vacates or Canelo if he beats Cotto, GGG's career will be left in a stand still. Why because his new found popularity is based on the notion that he is being avoided by Cotto, and oh yea he fights Mexican style. Canelo is mexican in case you guys have forgotten and the star of Mexican style boxing lol.
It will be interesting to see how Danny deals with a slick boxer in his first fight at WW. I will be rooting for Danny but I have to say that joining Haymon's stable was the worse thing for Danny's career.
Based on the criteria of this thread, I'd say Canelo. But it's funny how Cotto would probably make it into a most difficult list (not saying it was) but no body on here cares for a rematch. SMH
If Cotto is truly washed up, then a loss to the bigger GGG or Canelo means not a whole lot.
Props to Cotto for being the man to beat for both GGG and Canelo. Apparently, their legacy hinges on a win over a washed up Miguel Cotto.
It sure sounds like this is the case according to both Canelo and GGG fans. Both lost without a BIG Cotto fight. And the sad truth is that the only other meaningful fight for either guy is each other and we all know that won't happen until GGG'S 40th birthday according to GB.
I'm glad you made this thread, it's a unique take on a subject that's rarely discussed in here.
Well done you.
You red k'd me so much that you put me in the red zone just for making this thread and in the process of reporting me you call me a cu*t. Real classy and grown of you.
you didnt get this from canelo did you?, but still is understandable that he will prefer Texas over any other venue, just like cotto prefers NY, that doesnt mean is texas or no fight, and if true at the end of the day this is part of negotiating and most likely the fight will end up in vegas...
if gaby pena and cotto were happy at the end of negotiations last week, then it only means everything is going as expected...
we are getting the fight this time, no need to do drama...
I agree with you on this
My purpose as a non fan of Floyd Mayweather was to post a thread that would generate an honest and grown up discussion by informed boxing fans. If the mods feel I am doing something wrong and if I violated a rule please delete this thread and ban me if it is warranted. Thanks
I'm glad you made this thread, it's a unique take on a subject that's rarely discussed in here.
Well done you.
I see your sarcasm and yes it may have been argued many times but I don't think people have had a grown up discussion about it. It's starting out very good so far minus your cu*t option request.
IMO I think he should fight at the weight he is most comfortable at. And right now it seems to be MW. He should absolutely try to clean out the division before moving up but he needs to realize that means he has to wait till Cotto/Canelo is settled. Contrary to popular belief around here he has a better chance of getting Cotto in the ring in a cash out fight than Canelo who has already said he will fight GGG in the future when he moves up to GGG'S division. He said this while in negotiations with Cotto to fight for Cotto's belt which is a MW title. If he really intended to fight GGG anytime soon he could have said simply let me snatch that belt from Cotto and then we can talk to GGG about his position as the mandatory to said belt. Now however half assed Cotto may have said it he did say if GGG is available after Canelo then I will fight him.
He is exciting to me why??
1-His defense is a thing of beauty
2-the way he sets his opponents up
3-His counters are spot on,fluid and accurate
4-The way he remains calm and focused in any situation
Floyd is an artist in the ring and does not allow anyone to make him do stupid sh1t that takes him out of character..
Your four points are very good and that is also why I think he is the best. I am not a fan of the Floyd of late but as an old boxing fan I have a lot of respect for his skills. The way Floyd dispatched of one of my favorites Diego Corales was super impressive IMO. I put both the Castillo and Maidana fights in the same category in both cases he was lazy in the first match ups and then did his thing in the rematch's.
Great Fighter, I like the way he manages his opponents also his great defense.
But to say he fought the best, sorry but to fight the best you need to do it in their prime, and May fought a bunch of guys out of their prime.
In my opinion to rate him as "TBE" or a top10 ATG, he should need to go divisions up, a long time ago, and not fight the Ortiz-Gerrero-Maidana level opponents.
He should had challenged himself with bigger or stronger guys and not just stay confortable in WW(not a bad thing though).
I insist great fighter, but that's it.
He has fought in multiple divisions already he maxed out at jr MW, I disagree he has fought many good fighters in their prime in the past including Corales and Castillo and even Gati who wasn't much of a challenge but in his prime non the less. As for his most recent fights you may be right about those choices.
Man this is a really stupid thread, I mean really stupid..Am and pro's are night and day..thats like saying Bradley should be at super middle weight since he fought at 165 in the Amateurs ..Hell Floyd was at 118
This 100% ^^^^^^^^
Why do ppl hate AB so much?
Because he's a wanna be Mayweather, but he lacks the true skills, smarts and discipline. He thinks Mayweather used to act like a jerk because he was naturally a jerk. But Money took that route because the Golden boy was still in the game and there was only room for one good guy and Top Rank kept him on the back burner. Once Money May took on the bad guy roll he became the star villain in boxer unfortunately he could never shed that persona. Bronner is naturally a jerk. So I'm so rooting for Porter in this one.
