i dunno, if lacy was able to get off "A" punch Calzaghe might have been saying something different.
but the thing is lacy when he did throw, he had nothing on his punches, and the ones that had steam on they cooled down the people at ringside as he missed and whiffed all night long.
lacy has power, calzaghe just took it all away be smothering holding at the right times and landing a blitzkreig of punches on lacy at will... tough to have any power when your getting your ass handed to you....
Yup. This post is 100% correct.
i google and found a lot of articles about people who agree that they though that tyson was innocent, first of all she knew tyson was out of control and if she follow him up to his hotel what did she expect to happen? when they are alone? why didnt she break out after he raped her? why wait until she came back to her hotel?. i know tyson is not reliable but in this case i belivie him.
So, because she should of known it would happen, that meant it was ok? Until this attitude changes, rape victims will always feel guilty about coming forward.
Actually, from what I saw in this fight, I think Taylor won. Sure, 115-113 is pretty close, but he did win and did win against an all-time great. Taylor is going to get so much better and he has a chance to dominate middleweight just like Hopkins did IMO. I say a chance because in combat sports, you never know what will happen.
Boxing needs to get back on cable in a bad bad way. Look at mixed martial arts now that its getting some airtime on cable t.v. Its getting bigger and bigger everyday. Boxing needs to find a way to do that.
Penn is a very dangerous man because he has great hands and is a wizard on the ground. However, he sometimes gets burnt out and doesn't train like he should. He might be too good for his own good.
Thats what happend to Hughes actually. He walked threw everyone and took B.J really lightly (it was Penns first fight at 170) and he got owned. A re-match would be interesting.
You weren't wrong in the fact that the majority of martial arts are striking based, however only of few of thoses are actually practical styles that teach you anything useful. A much higher percentage of grappling styles are legitimate. Out of all the striking styles you basicly have boxing and muay thai that are top level. Some forms of karate aren't bad, but muay thai and boxing are the best by far. In grappling, there is judo, jiu jitsu wrestling and Sambo.
Then there are things like Karv Maga and Jeet Kun Do (what Bruce Lee taught) that arent styles but just basicly taking what works from other styles and using them.
In a technical sense boxing is a martial art. Any system of unarmed combat is a martial art really.
Yeah, that was a great knockout. Uno was out after that first shot and the Penn just blitzed him. However, in the re-match Uno looked a lot better and the fight ended in a draw, although Penn should of won 48-47 according to most people watching the fight. That includes me.
Hughes and Penn are just as talented, but have very different skill sets. Penn with his speed and jiu jitsu, Hughes with his power and wrestling. They will fight again one day. As soon as B.J Penn and Dana White kiss and make up.
I have done a bit of boxing. However, now I am doing grappling. train 3 to 4 times a week for 3 hours a time most nights. Lately, because I just started a new job, I have been training less which is too bad. I love it.
The IFC is a smaller orginzation, but they have given a lot of good fighters a start in thier career. Some good fights too. You will find there are more burtal beatings in these smaller shows because they still aren't sure who has the goods yet. The IFC DVD is definitly worth a watch.
Konstantin, Ortiz was scared of Liddel. They used to be training partners and one day during training Liddel dropped Ortiz with a liver shot. After that Ortiz has always had it in the back of his mind. Ortiz was scared to let something go for fear of getting blasted again.
Its really a shame too. Ortiz has excellent skills. He trains with Ferando Vargas sometimes and he hits like a truck, espically on the ground. He is the phyiscaly strongest fighter at 205 and he and Couture have cardio that puts everyone else to shame. Ortiz just isn't as good as Randy and he is afraid of Chuck.
Actually, there are a couple of other people that could challenge for that title. Mainly B.J Penn and Fedor Emelianenko. Randy is still a great choice for p4p though.
Ruiz seems to be a fairly nice guy, and he has some pretty good skills but I would rather have a root canal than watch one of his fights.
He had one fight I enjoyed, thats it. And he lost that fight.
I don'y like Tarver but I do think his personality is one that puts buts in the seats. He is lucky, he got lucky against Jones and was lucky against Eric Harding in their second fight.
Antonio Tarver is not nearly as good as people think and he is 35...it is too bad he is not as good of fighter as he is a talker, if that was the case then we would have something.
I was going to make a post in this thread, but you have said everything I would of said myself.
Actually, thats not true at all. Judo, Jiu jitsu, Akido, and several other styles are grappling based. A lot of the striking styles were developed to meet a specific challenge at the time. Tai Kawn Do, for example, was designed to kick a mounted rider off his horse.
And the Ultimate Fighting Championship is a true example of what works in martial arts. Look at the styles the dominate. Muay thai, boxing, wrestling and jiu jitsu. Thoses are the 4 that will actually help you out in a fight.
Vladdy seems to be gaining popularity. However, I think the next big heavyweight is going to be a surprise. Someone that just comes out of no where and captures the public eye.
Actually, I don't think K-1 ever allows elbows. Muay thai on the other hand, you see elbows all the time there. Eblows, knees in the clinch......its pretty burtal stuff.
I find it a bit boring, its like watching a John Ruiz who kicks and is allowed to hug on the floor.
No offence to the MMA guys but IMO boxings a superior combat sport.
Actually, thats something I really have to disagree with you on. Not enjoying the ground fighting in MMA is something totally different than calling boxing a superior sport however. Its like comparing apples with apple sauce.
They are the same, but different. A lot of people follow combat sports because they enjoy tough phyiscal sports. Some people follow boxing because they enjoy the sweet science and couldn't careless about takedowns and legal clinch work. So you don't have to enjoy MMA, but saying boxing is superior is kind of silly. They are different animals.
Ladies and Gentleman, this is Purity. You will soon find it impossible to argue with the man as he is always right. Even when he is wrong, he is right. Its really frustrating actually.
Man, this reporter seems to be an idiot. Not because he doesn't like Cotto but because his knowlage of boxing isn't up to par.
"with Cotto running around the ring, trying to avoid the fierce inside fighting from Abdullaev"
Ummmmm, isn't that what you are supposed to do against a guy that likes to fight inside? Cotto weathered the storm, fought back and won a convincing and solid win.
It's not okay to quit in boxing. Unless there's really something wrong with you.
If you can't see, your jaw is broken and you can taste blood, there is nothing wrong with throwing in the towel.
After reading all of this thread, I got a good laugh out of it. I am original of fan of MMA and my sport not only lets fighters quit, but its a common way of finishing a fight (the tapout). Some people here would like to see broken bones, or concussions or someone losing an eye rather than see a fighter quit.
Come on guys, get a grip on reality.
p.s Joe Frazier quit on his stool. Ali might of done the same if Joe hadn't. Remember that.
I could see some rationale for the score 114-114, but 115-113 for CM was a plain robbery.
How can you call 114-114 rational but 115-113 for CM a robbery? This is why i don't listen to most people when they say someone was robbed.
For the record I had Kid winning it 116-111
