This is kind of a belated subject, and I've been meaning to write about it for months and months. Never got around to it.
Anyway, I don't understand why people love Tarver's personality. I think he's at least as big a cock as Jones was, but has had less to back it up. Ok, ok, the Johnson fight was close, and he has avenged his other losses by knockout, still though. When Jones had 25 fights under his belt, he also had I think 22 knockouts, and had never been pushed half as hard as Tarver has been in many of his fights. Really, as much as you protest that beating Jones oughta count for more than beating Jorge Castro or Bernard Hopkins, shouldn't it matter that Tarver got virtually shut out by Eric Harding?
See what I'm saying? Tarver's a good fighter, it's undeniable, but in his prime, Jones dazzled us with his speed, combinations, and the rest of it. Tarver only looks truly amazing when he's landing a lucky punch, and only really entertaining when he's losing a fight he probably shouldn't be losing. Point being, if it's true that "It ain't braggin if you can back it up," then it's also true that Tarver has mostly just been bragging.
I can't stand Antonio Tarver. when he beat roy i wanted to cry...but thats ok i guess boxing is all he's got seeing how you cant do much when you look like a penis. if you look at tarver he looks like a penis cuz of the shape of his head. lol i think its funny.
This is kinda cool. I don't think I've ever run across a Roy-lovers thread.
I think if he had stayed at heavyweight he would have fought Evander Holyfield and Chris Byrd. James Toney would have moved up and fought whomever he had to in order to get a mandatory position (I think it would have been Rahman or, Tua, or Ruiz), and he and Jones would have rematched. Who wins Jones-Toney at heavyweight?
toney wins at hw, of course...i hate tarver ( yeah, i'm a jones fan, too ) but i think lots of people love him cause of his starring role in E.T.

Tarver is ass. He has a colorful personality, that's it. Jones was past his prime and shot himself in the foot by dropping back down to Light Heavyweight. Tarver is average.
Anyone remember when he knocked out Roy Jones, he started running around the ring all happy, then he fuckin knocked out the camera guy. Anyone remember that?
He did what?
Good point...I mean I'm a Jones fan, but looking back, I wish he would have went to heavy and stayed there..
That was a thread I wanted to start:
What if RJJ had stayed at heavyweight?
I think sometimes were way to tough on fighters, I mean the guy gets beat twice in 15 years and we say his legacy destroyed? c'mon he was on top for long time and made history and won
championships in multiple divisions.

true that
forget his last 2 fights
prolly top 4 p4p of all time
I don't like 'em...He destroyed Jones' legacy..

That was really weird. I felt bad for the camera guy! Did he do that by accident?
Also, I don't like Tarver, but that "Yeah I got a question, You gonna have any excuses tonight Roy?" That was hilarious.
I remember after Jones Tarver 2 when he said on Friday Night Fights that he was thinking about fighting Klitcho. That was funny.
wha wha wha? tarver vs vitali. id love to see it i can imagine tarver pullign a McCall lewis 2 crying around the ring as vitali beats the shit outta him they should put barbed wires on the ropes so he couldnt run out. i bet all my points someoen will say tarver could KO vitali
I don't like the guy either, but that's good because it makes me want to see him knocked out.
Dino, lol. Not sure if you had this in America but take a look at this: http://media.bestprices.com/content/vhs/20/160926.jpg
Haha!
Ha. That's awesome. Dino. So true, I'd never even thought of it.
I dunno, mebbe I got the wrong impression but it seems like a lotta people really like him. Specially sports writers and Roy haters.I admit it. I almost cried when Roy got KO'ed. I don't think I've recovered even now.
Roy either.

I was a little puzzled when he talked of everyone loving Tarver. I usually post on a coupla other forums and NO ONE loves that Dino from the Flintstones lookalike.
ya

Thank God someone thinks i'm right.
By the way, I'm not sure I buy this argument that his personality buys tickets. Really, I'd sooner by any pay per view with Glen Johnson on it than one with Tarver. Actually, I would make a point of never buying a Tarver pay per view to avoid putting money in his pockets. Not so with Johnson.
Here's the other thing, the Ring magazine, which I love, keeps talking about how Tarver's personality is really refreshing when compared with Jones. But it's not. He just sounds like another trash talker who wishes he were even half as ghetto and funny as James Toney or Bernard Hopkins.
