Antonio makes some good points; I think Taylor has proved to lack good fight instincts, even though he's a terrific fighter. The way he backed into the corner when hurt is scary . . . if you're looking for him to come back strong. Those kinds of problems won't easily go away.
I agree completely. Is there any doubt that Taylor is a better athlete than lanky, akward and white Pavlik? NO, but Pavlik has better fight instincts like you mentioned Kayjay. Taylor is a fucking mess with his technique (dropping that left hand while backing up) and he's got the HOF trainer. Pavlik's trainer refinishes fucking driveways or some shit and he out fought Taylor! I think Jermaine loses his head in the ring. Did you guys see the respect Manny was giving Pavlik after the fight? Maybe he'll start training Pavlik? I wouldn't complain if he did.
he received a lot of criticism while he was champ, most of what i felt wasn't necessary, once he got the belt he certainly didn't take the easy road.. then he fights kelly pavlik, one of the most dangerous punchers in the sport, he fights toe to toe, almost took him out, and fought hard.. yea, he lost, but afterwards when asked about a rematch he gave a straight up answer, he didn't say any "i gotta talk to my promoter" bullshit, he said he wanted one immediately, the guy is tough with a great story and personality and will fight anybody, he is great for the sport, at least i think so... what do u think?
Damn good post Tito. He didn't look good winning the title and never looked good defending it, but it's hard to look good against pure boxers like Winky and Spinks. I also thought the criticism he got while champ was harsh, but people need to see some action at some point. He never gave the fans a reason to cheer for him. Pavlik earned more fans on Saturday night with one fight than Taylor ever had. I hope that Taylor can bounce back. I don't want want to see Pavlik lose a rematch because I love that guy, but on the other hand a trilogy would be awesome. Taylor is a great athlete and a good boxer but something is missing with that guy. He and Jeff Lacy should fight. I think that would be a good matchup.

I finally got a chance last night to watch this fight without any distractions. Great fight! I wouldn't be suprised if round 3 didn't win Round of the Year. I thought Vazquez looked a lot stronger than Marquez through the whole fight. What a fucking war! These guys need to wait at least a year until they do the rubber match so they can heal. You guys think there is anything to Vazquez starting to get punchdrunk like Freddy Roach claims? He definately seemed like he was slurring his words in the post fight interview.
Vazquez does not slur his words! He speaks broken english but that shouldn't be confused with slurring.
Yeah, I hope you are right. I just know that Freddie didn't want to train him anymore because he thought he was starting to get punchy. Anyway, the guy is awesome and I would hate for him to be permantly damaged.

I think the fight should have been a draw after rewatching it. Winky was too heavy and as a result too slow. It was a mistake for him to move up. Hopkins did hold way too much. Kessler or Calzaghe beats Hopkins easy. This fight should not have been a PPV, but it looked like the undercard was bad ass. Did Bob Papa say tonight that a couple of guys will never fight again?
I'll admit I used to watch this show quite a bit, but they jumped the shark a while back. As someone said early in the thread, they seem to hate white boxers for some reason. WTF!! They're both white!! Also, they are all over Zab Judah's jock and they consistently pick practically every single fight wrong. They could have a pretty good show if they would pull their heads out of their asses. I am curious to see if they give Cotto the respect he deserves for whipping Zab's ass. I'm sure Iron Truth's goofy ass will say, "Fuck 'em. I still don't like him" and they'll move on exactly like they did after Pavlik exposed another one of their favorite black fighters, Edison Miranda. Whatever, fuck those guys.
Agreed. Too much punishment for too many years in too many fights. Also, I doubt Gomez would have lasted 5 rounds with Cintron that night. Man, he looked good. I'm hope him and Williams gets made.
I'm amazed that anyone had Spinks winning that piece of shit fight. You have to take a man's title and you don't do that by only throwing 85 punches! What the hell is wrong with you guys? Taylor has looked bad in every single defense and I can't wait until someone takes the title from him, but it's not going to be someone like Cory "retarded ring entrances" Spinks.
