he received a lot of criticism while he was champ, most of what i felt wasn't necessary, once he got the belt he certainly didn't take the easy road.. then he fights kelly pavlik, one of the most dangerous punchers in the sport, he fights toe to toe, almost took him out, and fought hard.. yea, he lost, but afterwards when asked about a rematch he gave a straight up answer, he didn't say any "i gotta talk to my promoter" bullshit, he said he wanted one immediately, the guy is tough with a great story and personality and will fight anybody, he is great for the sport, at least i think so... what do u think?
he didnt duck Miranda..he fought the guy that beat Miranda..top respect to Taylor first class bloke... as is Pavlik....humility and Humbleness can be a part of boxing..you don't need trash talk all the time..
Taylor deserves respect from all of us. I know he isnt one of my favorite fighters to watch, but he never ducked anyone (well some say Miranda, I dont.) I thought B-hop beat him, and that Winky did as well, but its not Jermains fault that the judges thought he won the fights. He fought 5 fights in a row that were against top guys. Who else has done that lately? Bhop 2 times, WW, Spinks and then Pavlik. That alone deserves respect.
I'm glad to see people are seeing more positively on Taylor now. He never did anything to deserve all the hate he got. He fought some top guys that are slick and made for boring fights, oh well. Everyone now has seen what happens when you stick him in there with someone that comes to fight. Taylor still lacks some polish that I hope he can get, and once he does I dont think there is a middle weight that can beat him. He has already shown that he could beat Pavlik fairly easily if he comes with a better game plan. And hes honest and humble, what else can you ask for from a fighter. I'd watch Taylor again any day.
anyone who doesnt respect jermain taylor is a fool. he fought a great fight despite losing.
@bmorebrawler - what the fuck does mayweather have to do with this?
when taylor hoes up to cruiserweight or heavyweight and beats everyone, then compare them, ok?
Critics were saying he would take his beating like a man and he took it like a man, you gotta respect that!
Thats what i liked the most. he didnt make any excuses and gave credit to his opponent. you cant do nothing but respect that. i just dont understand why people hated him to begin with. i think its mostly bernard hopkins fans. i mean i like bernard too but im not gonna hate another fighter just because he was beat by that person. thats childish.
I still don't know why they concider Floyd P4P when Taylor has fought the better competition.
Either way im a fan of both fighters now. A win from either one was fine with me. The middleweight division is getting very interesting!!
How can you not like both guys.
Both guys have stones.
I cant wait to see how Taylor adjusts for the rematch.
1. ANGLES! Dont back straight up.
2. I love the Jab, but with a face first guy like Pavs, you better have a right hand and a left hook behind it or it just means you get punched with a straight right and rocked. (PS....Kelly out jabbed you, so use yours to set up OTHER punches, which, by the way, you knocked him down when you did so)
3. OK..we get it...you can box backing up. Super. According to Round 2, you can also fight pretty well standing still and, God Forbid, Moving Forward. Can I get a trainer that will remind Taylor that he can actually punch, and that doing so as part of a solid DEFENSE will put guys to sleep like he used to?
4. Long, Lanky, heavy handed Light Heavies as Sparring Partners. Thats it, and thats all. No one under 175. They need to be taller, heavier, and just as fast as you. Start beating them, and you'll start beating Kelly.
OH YEA...Kelly.....It's called Head Movement. Less broken noses, less knock downs, easier wins. Pick off a few shots with the mitts, little head movement behind the jab, and BANG BANG BANG....out go the lights for the other guy, and you didnt have to almost get punched into a coma to do it.
I love these guys. Cant wait. Fire Manny Steward.

Damn good post Tito. He didn't look good winning the title and never looked good defending it, but it's hard to look good against pure boxers like Winky and Spinks. I also thought the criticism he got while champ was harsh, but people need to see some action at some point. He never gave the fans a reason to cheer for him. Pavlik earned more fans on Saturday night with one fight than Taylor ever had. I hope that Taylor can bounce back. I don't want want to see Pavlik lose a rematch because I love that guy, but on the other hand a trilogy would be awesome. Taylor is a great athlete and a good boxer but something is missing with that guy. He and Jeff Lacy should fight. I think that would be a good matchup.
Taylor had beaten and faced better opposition than Mayweather.
you spoke for 100 yrs to come......and deserves way more credit than mayweather, taylor has more balls than mayweather, he stuck his nose in there w/pavlik and gave us fan a good fight much respect for taylor

I would go so far as to say that no one else in boxing has fought the kind of skilled opposition that Taylor has fought in his last six. I'm officially a fan of both guys now and wouldn't mind seeing a trilogy, that is if Taylor can pull off what would now be considered an upset. I fucking love boxing.
Regardless of opponets after his wins over Hopkins, Taylor was in tough fight after tough fight, he had not one fight where his confidence when sorring because he ko'd the guy or took every round.
Most champions deserve an easy ko after these fighters that Taylor was fighting, sure he was fought two smaller guys, but what people don't admit is that those were tough fights. No, confidence builder fights. And when Taylor stepped into the ring, against pavlik, his mind was somwhere else, his confidence wasn't that high.
Taylor will be back.
