I still think there is no better fighter than James Toney. If you put Hopkins dedication and dicipline in Toneys body, that may have been the greatest ever. No disrespect to Ali or Robinson or even Mayweather. But James was just too damn naturally gifted at fighting that he didnt give a **** about training or keeping in shape. I didnt have a read through the whole thread, but im sure there was many posts who have said the same thing I just did
I watched both fights. Everyone knows I'm a Mosley fan, but I actually started to feel bad for Mayo, he was taking a beating. That last round though had me lightweight worried. Mosley looked wobbly as hell for a minuted till that KO came. Fun fight but not fight of the year..... cmon son, be real. The Leo vs Mares fight was dope too, I want a rematch haha. Realistically I see Mosley getting maybe 2 more fights they finally riding off into the sunset. For reals this time.
Didn’t watch the fight last night. It started way too late and I still haven’t bought in to the ESPN+ and DAZN nonsense. Guess it’s a sign of getting old and being stuck in my ways.
Anyway, sounds like Kovalev boxed his way to a convincing victory. Not surprising. Kovalev is an excellent technical fighter. He outboxed Hopkins. And IMO he outboxed Ward in both of their fights. Ward just outfought him and exposed Kovalev as a mental midget. Either way, Kovalev and Alvarez have beaten each other once. My question is, does Alvarez deserve a rubber match?
After seeing the fight, I actually buy that he was over trained. Kovalev looked sharp and didn't show fatigue after the 5th rd, I remember hearing that Buddy said Kovalev is different than most fighters in that he gets sharp quick and didn't need long grueling camps. Pretty crazy, but it's going to be nice seeing him try and unify, time is definitely not on his side at 35 yrs old.
Taylor is one of my favorite fighters. He lost no respect from me. He just got caught. Hes still one of the best in the division its just that his mind isnt made for wars. He has all the skill and athleticism in the world and he has a decent chin, its just he isnt made for wars.
Taylor is a good fighter. He just has the worst luck in the history of boxing. He should take a few confidence gainer fights to get back into fighting shape. I cant help but cheer for the guy, he seems like a good person and would be a good representative of the title because he is willing to fight everyone. Like someone else has said.... He dares to be great unlike other boxers who pick and choose fights that they can win. Jermain went after all the best fighters and just lost to the better prepared fighter.
I hope Mayweather wants a piece. That would be the best fight right now. The winner should fight the Berto Mosley winner. That would settle the best fighter of the Welter division and possibly the best fighter of their era.
That was TOTALLY not what I was expecting. I have to admit, Manny whooped some ass really bad. I actually feel that Santiago should no longer be the trainer. It seemed like he wanted Cotto to get hurt more. Kenny did a very good job on this fight as well. Great fight over all. Bring on Mayweather or Mosley!!!!
Im not calling Cotto a coward in the least but everyone should have seen this when he fought Mosley. He has all the heart in the world for continuing to fight but he just doesnt know how to win when hes down. He has the tencency to run when he is looking for a new answer but it looks like hes scared and that was the worst thing he could have done when fighting Pac. That gave Pac even more confidence and that is why he attacked.
I want this fight now more than ever. But I dont know.... No matter how many times Manny has shocked the shit out of me, I feel Mayweather would make it an ugly and boring fight with him winning a decision. But I could be wrong and that would really please me.
I really doubt Mayweather will fight for a fair purse. HE WILL price himself out of the fight saying that he is the draw and hes the better fighter.... his usual speech but everyone knows hes just not willing to take risks anymore. He is more worried about staying undefeated rather than building his legacy. Pac should fight the Mosley Berto winner to stay busy rather than wait for Floyd to fight.
I dont think anyone, including Manny really expected Cotto to get beat down like that. That performance is unbelieveable. Way to go Pac. But I gotta go with my boy Mosley to beat him ;)
Cotto is fine dont worry about him. He just couldnt deal with the speed and angles. He is still easily top 10 in the WW division. Dont write him off just because he lost to a ATG.
This fight will be ugly and boring. Mayweather will box and move all night leaving pac chasing the whole fight. It will be boring ugly and in the end probably leave with Pac getting a L in his record. Mayweather will make the fight UGLY mark my words!!!!
Cotto has more power but Manny just drowns you in punches. There is no other way to see this. If you truly believe that Manny has more one punch power I dont know about people anymore.
Mosley is just the name that is thrown out there so hopefully Pac and co. accept Mayweathers crazy demands. I gave it a 1 on the poll because its pretty obvious that Floyd doesnt WANT to fight Shane but will use his name as leverage in negotiations.
Im thinking if cotto takes time off, probably around a year or so, he will be fine. But i have a feeling he will feel the need to prove to everyone that hes still a destroyer and get in there too son and completely doubt himself everytime someone doesnt go down in the first 5 rounds. Worst case scenario, we are now looking at a future "Mike Tyson". But hopefully he takes time off and heals mental and physical wounds. Every Cotto fan will say that im a bandwagon Marg fan for saying this but, an out of his prime Mosley took it to him and he pulled a Delahoya , Margs would put him on his ass. And i was right.
Prime Mosley vs Prime Duran at light weight
Prime Tyson vs Prime Tua
Prime Lennox vs Prime Ali (assuming they would stand and trade)
Margarito vs Gatti
Tommy Morrison vs Tye Fields lol
Mayweather vs Sweat Pea. (record for least amount of punches thrown and landed in a 12 round fight)
Roy was great but thats what you get for not actually learning to use basic boxing. Popkins has been saying that and no one believed him and now whos laughing.
