To be honest, Evander really didn't put forth the kind of performance to win a heavyweight title.
Valuev handed the fight away. And the judges just blatantly cheated and gave him the belt back that he was handing away.
Is Evander the champion? I don't think so. That entire fight was dreadful.
But let's say Chagaev beats Valuev and then somehow Evander gets a shot at Chagaev and actually fights a good fight and wins, then he would earn it the right way.
I think that would be fair for everybody.
a Valero fight doesn't bring too much for Pacquaio
it would be an exciting fight for people who follow boxing because Valero is a big slugger but right now he's relatively unknown
I'd rather see Pacquiao vs. Campbell/Guzman/Casamayor and try to become a more legitimate lightweight champ
I use sopcast for every fight
Usually there is more of an indication throughout the day than this.
Not saying there won't be when it starts, but it's not always this late being posted.
TVants is working good right now
we'll see as we get closer to the main event and more log on
I watched the chinese link for the Mayweather/Hatton
the main event was on that night
I think Vazquez should fight a few more and retire.
He's already had his signature moments and a lot of fans respect him.
I think he's too big for anyone else below and might be too small for somebody like Linares, who is younger and a devastating puncher.
I love Vasquez for his intangibles and heart but he doesn't have much defense to fight guys that can punch like Marquez but with more power.
Disappointing coming from Kelly.
He should stick to boxing.
Obama has made a huge comeback after Hillary was the overwhelming choice only a few months ago.
It doesn't happen by accident. The more people have studied the candidates it's become obvious who the right choice is.
I was pulling for Vazquez because I always liked him and his finish was classic stuff.
But one point, can't get much closer than that.
Marquez is an outstanding boxer and fun to watch. Have to give him a lot of credit.
DONT KNOW WHO THOMPSON IS?!?!
I know who he is. haha
Thompson actually should be getting a shot, because hes been denied a title shot forever...but truth be told, Wlad is too fast, too skilled for Thompson. I think everyone knows this.
Thompson has a long jab and is pretty slick with his southpaw style. That's about all I can really say about his chances though. Klitschko would be the heavy favorite against a lot of guys, I agree.
I think a big question is when a guy is dominating a fight and has many rounds in the bag does he still try to close the show with a knockout?
Manny Steward certainly seemed to think so Saturday night in the Klitschko-Ibragimov fight.
Klitschko has good power, we've seen that in a lot of recent fights, but he's also smart and not going to sellout for the knockout when the fight is in hand. Lewis for the most part was that way.
I don't take anything away from a fighter for being that way but many fans and media members will.
the only thing that could ever possibly point to a Thompson win is his consistancy...he is always coming forward, throwing punches.
who knows, if Wlad decides to only jab and not throw a single right hand until the 8th round, Thompson could get the win...because Wlad is terrible at counter punching, and Thompson could prevent him from ever punching ever by constant pressure. :ugh:
but I seriously doubt it. A lot.
From Thompson's perspective, he's not getting any younger at 36, so he should want to get in there and find out, either way.
He's a pretty good boxer who can win rounds before he gets knocked out. :boxing:
I really think wlad would have went more for the knockout if sultan wasnt a southpaw. its so easy to walk into a left hand from a southpaw. he was just playing it safe. the bummer of it is there are 2 other southpaws that wald will probably fight. tony thompson a mandatory challenger and chageav,,,the wba champ. both of those fights would also likely be stinkers as wlad will just use his left hand and avoid walking into any lefts. a fight with povetkin would be much more exciting. he wouldnt be nearly as cautious with the conventional fighter
I pretty much agree.
It's obvious the one thing that Wlad doesn't want to do is brawl and get in a wild type of fight. He wants to be systematic and in control and set up the big rounds towards the middle rounds.
So then the best opponent for the fans is someone who can force him into what he doesn't want. Unfortunately there aren't many of those guys near the top. Maybe Povetkin like you said. He has shown to be aggressive and willing to fight inside. Problems for Povetkin are he's not that big (only 6'2) and he's not hard to hit.
actually I havent, thanks for the heads up. Ill check it out right now
I feel bad for Tony. hes trying so hard to get his title shots or even a meaningful fight...he just doesnt have a big name. Ive been checking up to see if he has even a 'stay busy' type fight scheduled, but nothing since he knocked out Couser
I read an online interview last month and Thompson said he was waiting for the outcome of the Klitschko-Ibragimov fight to see if he gets his shot at the WBO.
So we'll probably know more in the next few weeks now.
