haney, canelo, andrade?
boxing is a global sport now btw. appreciate the sport.
pbc is crap. go pay ppv for tank davis. lol wilder vs martin.
Haney, Canelo, Andrade in one-sided mismatches, over and over again. No thanks. I'll pass.
DAZN, home of the mismatches. Can't match two top fighters together to save their lives.
Butaev, Kavaliauskas, Crowley, the guy who beat Ellis, even Barrios and Josesito Lopez would say yes to Jaron "Boots" Ennis in a heartbeat. Probably even Dulorme would want a rematch. Those are all inhouse fights for Jaron "Boots" Ennis. No need to cross the street. But for some strange reason they'd rather scour the globe to look for Karens.
You must not really follow - or understand - boxing.
Boots wants a title shot. One way to do that is to get yourself into the mandatory position, and ultimately they'll have to fight you.
Boots' fight against Karen Chukhadzhian was for the mandatory. He had to fight Chukhadzhian in order to get the mandatory. No one scoured the globe to find him. He was the highest ranked available contender, so if he wanted the mandatory position - which anyone would, in his shoes - then he HAD to fight Chukhadzhian.
If you don't like the choice of opponents, blame the sanctioning organization, not Boots. Boots doesn't control the rankings. He's just trying to get his title shot, and he has no choice but to play the cards he has been dealt. DOn't hate the player, hate the game.
Conor Benn is suspended so, get him to fight Ortiz Jr.
Ortiz's opponent kavala-whataever had his appendix burst so, may as well get in the ring with a live opponent for once.
The way Ennis fought that last fight would get him bricked against Spence.
False. Ortiz's opponent is Stanionis...and the fight is postponed while Stanionis recovers. If Ortiz fights someone other than STanionis, he loses his position. Would make zero sense for him to do so.
Spence pretty much has no choice.
Crawford seems to be firmly out of the picture for anyone but himself as he has created a moat around himself that prevents the Spence fight from happening.
Spence beats Thurman. He has to fight Ennis to keep the IBF strap. So, he'd either move up and quit 147 or fight Ennis. Seeing how Crawford has no indication of fighting Spence.
Wrong again.
The winner of Ortiz vs Stanionis will be Spence's WBA mandatory. The WBA has said that after Spence-Thurman, Spence can either fight Crawford to unify, or he must fight the winner of Ortiz-Stanionis.
The WBA is first in line. The IBF is not. There is no timetable on Spence fighting his IBF mandatory. There is no way IBF is stripping Spence anytime soon because they are behind the WBC and WBA in terms of the mandatories.
Jaron “BOOTS” Ennis Overrated 12Rds With A MisMatch!
"Kavaliauskas would KO Karen! Ortiz KO'd Kavaliauskas! Kavaliuskas is top 10!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwZAEbP107o
HAHAHAHAHA...this is a joke, right. Kavaliauskas is 2-2-1 in his last 5 fights. Couldn't take out Mykal Fox...and you think he can deal with Boots' power? LOL
Nah, hes exposing them and their bs. Like i stated, hes said it in many interviews over these last few weeks. In his interview w/Rogan, he called out Haymon and Espinoza for trying to block the fight.
How are Haymon and Espinoza to blame? If they didn't want the fight, it wouldn't have happened.
I haven't heard/watched the whole video - but do we even know that this so-called "Doctor 805" is in fact a doctor?
In the portion of the comments that I've heard, he says he has performed neurological exams on quite a few patients, but he never says he's a doctor.
Obviously anyone can call in and portray themselves as anything they want.
And the doctors I know and have heard speak go to great lengths to NOT diagnose people they haven't personally examined. Many doctors won't even give a major diagnosis (i.e., something other than cold, flu, rash, etc.) over Zoom and require an in-person examination.
So why are people so quick to believe that this guy is credible?
He's no different than some anonymous poster in this forum or social media.
The only difference is that he sounds fairly articulate. But that's far from proof that he's a doctor, much less a expert neurologist who can diagnose neurological issues based on observing a couple of minutes of a guy walking into the ring.
The only fights or fighters worth a **** are benvidez vs canelo.
Benevidez vs plant i can get up for
The lighter 135-140 fighters porentially fighting but they wont actually fight
Spence vs crawford
Welterweight division is dead. 154 dead
all these fighters suck and are not worth watching
To make matters worse, not only is it a talent issue but none of these prima donnas want to fight
Boxing is dead
Ive been watching a ton of ufc lately and its way better. The best fight the best. End of story. No politics.
They also fight once a year now...fight 1 tomato can a year.
LOL. "The best fight the best" in UFC? That's hilarious.
You need to start thinking for yourself instead of swallowing whatever B.S. Dana White spews.
The UFC is not about the best fighting the best. The UFC is about making the most money. So worthy challengers get passed over reguarly, and UFC chooses who they believe is the most marketable and will make the most money. Sometimes that's the best fighting the best, often it's not.
UFC kept trotting out Nick Diaz and Sonnen for repeated title shots long after they had peaked. They weren't the best but they kept getting main event headline matchups because they talked a lot and generated publicity. But they weren't the best.
Covington got starched by Usman and then got a rematch simply by beating a washed Woodley. Was Covington the best? Of course not. But he got to fight the best because he was marketable. And then after losing the second time to Usman, he got another PPV headline vs. Masvidal. NOT AT ALL the best vs. the best.
Sonnen fought Jon Jones for the title coming off TWO STRAIGHT LOSSES. Predictably, Sonnen lasted only one round. That's not best vs. best.
EACH OF JOSE ALDO and YOEL ROMERO GOT TO FIGHT FOR THE TITLE COMING OFF TWO CONSECUTIVE LOSSES. Same for Frankie Edgar and Holly Holm. That's not the best vs. the best.
You probably don't remember JEREMY HORN. Horn got a title shot against Liddell despite the fact that Horn hadn't been in the UFC for years and was then fighting on a third-tier regional promotion. That's not best vs. best.
I could go on all day:
- Couture got KO'ed TWICE IN A ROW, then retired...and then came out of retirement and instantly got a title shot. He wasn't anywhere near the best. Plenty of other more worthly title challengers.
- Gustaffson got KO'ed and then immediately got a title shot vs. Cormier, when Bader was availabie and far more deserving.
- Masvidal is the poster child for undeserving fights. He keeps losing but still gets opportunities, because he's fun to watch. But he's NOT the best
The UFC is run like a TV show, not a sports league. Like WWE, the way to get opportunities is to build a good character and make lots of noise - Diaz, Masvidal, Covington, etc. Being the best has nothing to do with it.
Boxing is more about showcasing fighters as I came to realize when I started watching. It's nothing like other sports where you follow a team reach the finals and compete with the finalists. You'd be massively disappointed if you're new and expect a boxer who just won big and see him fight at an even bigger level. You might never see him again at all. In sum, it's all about random fights that have no rhyme or reason to get made and sold to the public.
Not even close to true. I'm a big Tank Davis fan. His last 10 fights have all been on Showtime. 2-3 times per year, like clockwork.
Same for the Charlos. Wilder too. Spence, Crawford, etc. If you don't know when they're fighting, that's because you're not following the sport.
The only fights or fighters worth a **** are benvidez vs canelo.

Ive also spenr over 20k in tickets over the last 15 years so anyone not calling me a fan can kick rocks.
Good riddance. Last thing the sport needs is more cynical, negative fans.
Welterweight division is dead??? LOL. Spence, Crawford, Thurman, Ennis, Ortiz is a dead division? LOL. You're clueless.
154 dead? The division just crowned an undisputed champion for the first time ever, and there are plenty of worthy and entertaining challengers: Fundora, Tzsyu, Garcia and probably ultimately Spence and Crawford.
Heavyweight division is as entertaining and unpredictable as it's been in years.
135 is one of the hottest divisions in the sport. Davis and Garcia WILL FIGHT IN THE SPRING, with more big fights to come.
Benavidez, Plant, Charlo, Canelo...168 strong too.
But clearly you're more interested in a sport where the person who gets the most attention is the promoter Dana White. The guy who dominates the press conferences, puts his name on everything and shouts down anyone who dares have a different opinion. Last thing i want to hear at a press conference is more promoters talking. But you go ahead and be a Dana White fanboy.
Enjoy the White Power Slap League.
Having a visible, well known promoter with the gift of the gab is mostly a good thing tbh. Boxing used to have it with Don King and I guess today Hearn albeit to a much lesser extent and in his case mostly confined to the UK. The WWE had it with Vince McMahon too. Just having a guy to speak for/sell the product as a whole and someone who the average Joe goes "oh thats that boxing/MMA promoter guy". Its good to have recognisable announcers, referees etc too. Mills Lane bled into popular culture back in the day. Joe Rogan is famous as **** etc etc. I dont think any of this takes away from the fighters themselves.
Couldn't disagree more.
Every bit of ink and attention spent on the promoter - whether Dana White or Hearn or Arum or otherwise - is less ink and attention for the fighter. It's a zero sum game. When Dana hogs the spotlight at press conferences, that leaves less time for fans and media to hear from, and get to know, the fighters.
Mayweather is a great example. When Mayweather was promoted by Arum, his personality and marketability was muted. Floyd was recognized as good, but not a superstar. Arum took the limelight too much of the time and rarely stepped back to let Floyd shine. Plus Arum insisted on marketing Floyd as "Pretty Boy," which was a persona that didn't work that well. Floyd leaves Top Rank and BOOM - new persona, new brand, becomes a superstar. He wasn't toiling underneath a promoter who was suppressing him.
Who knows how many more marketable stars the UFC would have if Dana would share more of the attention and spotlight.
And that's the problem with UFC today. Ask any casual MMA fan - or any general sports fan - to name a UFC star, and 99% of them will say Conor McGregor. You'll get a few Silvas and Jon Joneses. But the vast majority of casual MMA fans and general sports fans can't name another current active UFC fighter (and McGregor barely qualifies as current active.)
If you look at the top 10 UFC fightes in terms of IG followers, 70-80% of them are RETIRED or INACTIVE.
You can say all you want about Poirier, or Adesanya or Usman or Periera or Ngannou or Gane. Casuals barly know them, and general sports fans don't know them at all.
The days of Liddell, Ortiz, Lesnar, Silva, Jones, Diaz bros, McGregor, etc. are long gone, UFC doesn't have any more transcendant mainstream stars than boxing does.
Same as Spence. Until they fight each other, they have fairly mediocre resumes. Even if they beat Ennis or Ortiz at this point, it would remain to be seen how impressive that win or wins would be.
Spence beating Kell Brook, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter and Ugas is mediocre????
you're on drugs.
Let's stop talking fantasy matchups and talk reality instead. Let's have an honest real discussion of the best guy that is available to fight Charlo in the real world today.
It's clear PBC isn't letting their guys fight on DAZN or ESPN (not PBC's top tier guys). Likewise, Top Rank and Matchroom are letting their guys fight on Fox or Showtime. (Before everyone pipes us, Wilder-Fury is a split network PPV, which solves the PBC-ESPN problem...and let's not pretend that Murata-Charlo or Charlo vs anyone not named Canelo or GGG is a PPV.)
GGG: Not an option. Committed to DAZN and going to fight Derevyanchenko.
Canelo: Not an option. Committed to DAZN and waiting for Kovalev.
Andrade: Not an option. Committed to DAZN.
Murata: Probably not an option. Has some relationship with TR (he's on the TR website as a TR fighter), which means he's probably he's probably committed to ESPN.
Jacobs: Not an option. Going to 168 and committed to DAZN.
Saunders: Not an option. Committed to DAZN.
Callum Smith: Not an option. 168 and committed to DAZN.
Derevyanchenko: Not an option. Going to fight GGG.
Brant: Probably too soon after getting KO'ed a few weeks ago.
Horn: Has a fight scheduled at the end of August.
Falcao: Not an option. TR fighter, committed to ESPN.
Who's the best option left?
Lemieux? He's fought twice in 2 years.
Kamil Szeremeta?
Liam Williams?
Steven Butler?
No way is ESPN happy.
- Crawford PPV bombed.
- Crawford vs. Spence is nowhere close to being made.
- With a few exceptions, TR is putting on one-sided mismatches.
- Too many foreign fights that no one cares about in the U.S.
- ESPN is finding out that Fury is not a U.S. draw. and Wilder fight is still 9 months away.
- ESPN viewership is about half of Fox viewership, with ESPN+ even smaller.
- Top Rank boxing not generating near the viewership that UFC prelins are drawing.
Crawford wants it more only because he has no other options.
Spence has plenty of good options - quality fights for real money - so he has the luxury of not being pressed about any of them.
DAZN just hired Pat McAfee to do a daily talk show on the platform.
Anyone have an opinion on whether they should use him as a colour commentator for boxing matches?
One of the better people on the mic in the business. I think ESPN just hired him for NCAAF. But his focus is football and WWE -- not boxing as far as I'm aware.
I cannot understand why networks continue to insult boxing fans by using ignorant commentators.
In no other sports do networks regularly assign people with no knowledge of a sport to be a broadcaster for that sport. But in boxing we regularly get announcers who can barely pronounce guys names, let alone recite basic rules.
So no, we don't need another boxing announcer who doesn't know boxing.
Why not December?
Simple explanation.
DAZN has finally figured out that in order to keep people from cycling on and off their DAZN subscription whenever they have a big fight, they need to have meaningful fights every month.
From the standpoint of driving subscriptions, heir May/June schedule - GGG, Canelo and Joshua, all within 5 weeks of each other - was stupid. People just dropped off the service after GGG in June, so they learned their lesson.
For September, they don't really have a meaningful fight in terms of driving subscriptions.
For October, they have a so-so fight from the subscription business standpoint: if you know who derevyenchenko is, you're a hardcore boxing fan and are probably already a DAZN subscriber.
For December, they have Ruiz-Joshua 2.
They need something to keep people from dropping DAZN after GGG in October. So they want to force Kovalev to fight in November.
Lol he is a bonafide dumbass. Ducked wlad and ducked joshua many times and let ruiz get the win over joshua ruining a mega fight.
So now it's Wilder's fault for "letting" Ruiz beat Joshua, thereby ruining a megafight?
You Wilder haters are funny. No, it's not Deontay's fault that Ruiz beat AJ up. Deontay didn't "let" Ruiz get the win. Even under the DAZN offer, both AJ and Deontay would have taken at least one tune-up fight, and possibly more, before facing each other - so the Wilder-Joshua fight wouldn't have happened this soon anyway.
There are only three things to blame for AJ getting TKO'ed by Ruiz: Ruiz's right hand, Ruiz's left hand, and Joshua's chin.
All?
Have you been to fights at StubHub, The Forum or MSG? StubHub is a pure fight fans venue and the Forum crowd is excellent too. MSG Theater was a bit of a Boxing geek fest for Loma-Rigo. Sure, you don't get singing songs like in Britain but you get a great fight atmosphere if the venue suits the event.
Example SuperFly 2 was great and one of the better caliber of fight fans and atmospheres (especially considering it's outdoors and small) had it been in Vegas it would have been flat. The problem over here is often times it's like there's no thought process in the venues to some of the fights.
Barclays has had BY FAR the biggest and best boxing events over the last couple of years:
Shawn Porter vs. Keith Thurman
Leo Santa Cruz vs. Carl Frampton (Mikey Garcia co-feature)
Badou Jack vs James DeGale (Gervonta Davis co-feature)
Danny Garcia vs. Keith Thurman
Mikey Garcia vs. Adrien Broner
Wilder's monster KO's of Spilka and Stiverne
Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz
Charlo monster KOs
No other venue has had anywhere near that quality. Super Fly card was cool but nowhere the level of Barclays cards.
ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz....
Boring, predictable mismatch. Turned out exactly how it was expected to.
That's what happens what you program mismatches. No drama, no intrigue, no excitement. Just a predictable result.
Rigo had no business going up 2 weight classes to fight. The two fighters looked ridiculous standing across from each other.
They currently have GGG as #1 should this be changed??
For beating up on an inactive, 37-year old fighter who was 2 weight classes smaller than him.
GTFOH.
Lomachenko is a really good fighter, arguably p4p the best, but this is ridiculous.
Guillermo Rigondeax hurt his left hand, full stop; their tactics basically negated each other, but Rigondeax didn't take a beating, his face wasn't marked with swelling/cuts/bruises, and didn't end up looking hapless at all.
Lomachenko's big TV highlight was missing a 10-punch combination for heck's sake.
Yet now, in the spin after the fight, fans and the media are trying to act as if it was some wide washout, lol. Even if you did have the fight scored 6-0 for Lomachenko, that still does nothing to change the fact that the first 4 rounds could've basically been scored 10-10, due to neither guy landing all that much effectively.
No one is going to go back and watch the fight again (which is likely why the spin is going to work on most folks); that should set reality for folks, but it won't.
Oh well
Not to mention the fact that it's no big accomplishment to defeat a guy who is two weight classes smaller than you.
Rigo had no business being in the ring with Lomachenko.
Matchroom are by far the most talked about and popular just going by numbers. American fans will argue, but the AJ/Parker fight will be broadcast to all but 6 countries in the world. They are the global leaders with the biggest fights in boxing.
Matchroom has ONE fighter that the worldwide audience cares about: Joshua. None of Matchroom's other fighters can headline a card outside the UK.
Matchroom's non-Joshua fights are meaningless.
- Whyte-Browne? No one cares outside the U.S. Didn't even get US television until a week before the fight. No one knows Whyte in the U.S.
- Jacobs-Sulecki? Yuck. For the 2nd fight in a row, Matchroom has Jacobs fighting a no-name no-hoper.
- Quigg? Crolla? No one has heard of them outside the UK. US TV doesn't even carry their fights.
- Brook? Has been demolished twice.
Matchroom is the UK's best promoter, but not worldwide.
Vanes, Canelo, Lemieux, Ishida, Rosado, Ouma, Nunez, Tapia, Brook.
That's 9 of his last 21 fights since 2010. It's pathetic, it really is.
Remember when his fan boys tried to convince us he was a small MW? The size difference between him and Vanes is clear, even against Canelo who was supposedly on roids was made to look much smaller
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/media/motion/2017/0915/dm_170915_box_canelo_ggg/dm_170915_box_canelo_ggg.jpg&cquality=40
This guy has to be the biggest joke in boxing, can you imagine if EVERY fighter had the luxury of fighting 43% of their competition from lower weight classes? Their records, especially knockouts, would be insane.
Valid points. Not saying that GGG isn't good, but he has benefited from fighting smaller competition.
Charlo beats Golovkin - GGG is noticeably aging and was never that athletic to start with. GGG had his hands full with Canelo, and Charlo is bigger, stronger, more athletic than Canelo, and Charlo punches more harder too.
Brook KOs Khan - LoGreco fight was an embarrassment. Shouldn't have been sanctioned. Khan is still Glass Joe.
Lomachenko beats David - too much skill.
In fact so buzzed he got another 30 seconds from the ref to recover when the 8th round started.....god bless america
If you knew anything about boxing in New York, you'd know that having the doctors check the fighters at the end of a round is standard practice for the New York athletic commission. They did it in fights before Wilder-Ortiz and they did it in the Miller-Duhaupas fight a few weeks later. That's just how they do it in NYC.
You wilder fans just don’t get it do you ?
Joshua owns wilder
He can make wilder clean his house, that’s how much bigger he is
Uk is the home of boxing
Joshua makes 20m whilst wilder makes 1.5m
You need to get it in your head if Joshua says dance, you dance like boys
Your reason so invalid
The person who is the draw calls the shots, in this case the draw is Joshua as he generates 80 percent of the revenue of the fight easily from the uk as nobody knows wilder the usa
Joshua has the belts
Joshua is the one who beat the fighters wilder ducked like kilt and whyte
Wilder is nothing but a bum paper Champion made by Haymon who has been protected
If wilder was this saviour of American boxing, he would have no issues finding his balls and fighting the draw
Just like when Floyd did vs Oscar, oscar was the boss and made the rules in that fight until Floyd won
Wilder is a coward looking to cash out or cheat like he did vs Ortiz
Forgive me, but isn't each fighter's goal to maximize their career earnings? Of course it is. And the revenues from a fight in the U.S. would be at least $20-30 million more than if the fight is in the U.S. So why in the hell would Joshua want to fight and get so much LESS money?
Why is Joshua who is making $20-30 million a fight, which is probably on average about half of a Floyd pay day post De La Hoya, expected to overpay fighters by these ridiculous amounts. He just had to pay Parker, £8 million, $11 million!!!
To put that into perspective, against Floyd; Mosley, and Marquez, made less than that, both STARS, champions, multiple ppv appearances. In a fight where the pot for the fighters was probably around $70-80 million on a bad day.
The hypocrisy and double standards are ridiculous.
I hear people talking about %, without using any historical context. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think Wilder should be taking the flat offer, but I also dont think that number is a million miles away from where a fair % would end up. $15 million would be somewhere around that 30-35% mark, and quite frankly that is ridiculous overpaying if you consider the above, and the fact that both Parker and Wilder are not draws.
Floyd was paying stars - actual STARS, certified HOFers, 10% of the purse in some cases, but they were happy because of the opportunity and the life changing money.
When these guys were taking these purses, I didn't hear anyone complaining then, I didn't hear anything about low ball offers.
This is the last I'm going to talk about this, but needed to put it out there.
FAIL.
Joshua isn't generating Mayweather numbers. That's why your analogy doesn't work.
Mayweather's earning potential is what gave him leverage. He could generate huge numbers with a no-name opponent...so he had leverage to lowball anyone he thought.
Not so for Joshua.
