First off he's Irish second why in god's name would he fight triple duck at 164 when he is the champ at 168 and he would have favored Froch and Chavez Jr at 168 ?
First of all, there was never a deal offered to Ward from GGG's camp. It was only a comment made during a web interview. I really wish people would check their facts before starting crappy threads on things that never happened.
Boxing fans must be the most unknowledgeable of all sports fans when it comes to the sport they follow. I know baseball fans who can list off stats from back when Babe Ruth was playing the game but boxing fans don't know what actually happened in their sport yesterday it seems. Are they all punch drunk or just stupid to begin with?
When Golovkin is begging for fights: "What a warrior, everyone's ducking GGG because they're scared, bunch of cowards."
When Ward calls Golovkin's team on their bullsh*t: "He's desperate, he needs money."
People around here are absolutely ridiculous and fooling no one.
FACTS
Golovkin: Headlining his own PPV in a title unification bout.
Ward: Begging to get on the undercard of Cotto's PPV and trying to get a piece of the PPV gate. Can't fill arena in his back yard even by giving away the tickets.
Deal with it.
You really need to do your research. GGG has already had THREE fights at the Garden. Rosado, Stevens and Geale.
That being said, it would not surprise me at all to see GGG get similar numbers to Floyd's recent fight. Golovkin is getting a lot of publicity and shares many fans with Ronda Rousey, who speaks about him in just about every interview, and her last PPV in Brazil did over 1 million buys.
If it does well, it will be because of the Canadian market.
Canadian/Brits are great fans. They support you no matter what your color is. Unlike here in the states.
Canadian buys will not be included in the stats. Only US buys. Canadian will be lumped in with International sales as a different statistic as the dollars are distributed differently.
hell no. floyd mayweather is a household name. i doubt that even alvarez-cotto does much more than mayweather-berto
Well GGG is in October and there's another Rousey PPV in early December so people may pass over the Cotto - Canelo fight to save a few bucks. Especially if they add Ward to the undercard. After all... Ward is draw spelled backwards and that is the effect he usually has on a fight. :)
(1)Bullshit. It's called moving the goal post once your bluffed is called.
(2)ggg & his team stated that they had troubles making fights so that they'll fight ANYONE 154-168 lbs. (Also ya don't say that about Ward-Dawson. That's called being hypocritical).
Thsoe are called excuses.
They said that over FOUR YEARS AGO, BEFORE GGG HAD SO MUCH AS SIGNED ONE FIGHT IN THE US. IT NO LONGER APPLIES.
And you are very much aware of that fact and are just being a troll as usual. But what can you expect from a Cotto dick licker.:boxing:
The funny thing is people like the thread starter don't want to see Ward fight Golovkin. Period. It has nothing to do with a desire to see Ward fight Kovalev. They want to use Kovalev as a human shield. It's pathetic and funny at the same time.
Why should I want to see a fighter take a fight against someone two divisions higher with nothing on the line? Let Ward prove he deserves to fight either Kovalev or Stevenson by beating Beterbiev first. If Ward can defeat Beterbiev and then the winner of Krusher and Superpimp, he would become the unified, undisputed LHW champion of the world.
If he can do that, and GGG can unify all the titles at MW, they can meet in the middle at 168 in a battle of two undefeated, unified, undisputed title holders. Neither fighter would have the advantage as both would be making a weight concession. No titles would be on the line and both fighters could return to their respective divisions as undisputed title holders after the fight. It would be one massive PPV event, never seen before and probably never to be seen again.
I would think that is something to look forward to and to hope for.
Not that Ward would have a chance in hell of beating Beterbiev, much less the winner of Kovalev and Stevenson, but if his fans really think he is that good they would have to support my proposition, wouldn't they? Besides...Ward is the SOG is he not?
Although in another type of 'hobby' SOG means 'shot on goal' and I think Ward has already shot his wad.
I stopped reading the nonsense after that. You don't want Ward to fight Golovkin because you have a weird fetish for GGG and don't want to see him lose. It's that simple. Ward is not "two divisions higher" so you can stop lying to me.
For you to admit that you don't want to see the fight proves my point. Comical.
Ward's last fight was at LHW. 172 pounds. That is TWO DIVISIONS higher than Middleweight.
I am fine with the fight happening. When the time is right and Ward has brought his brand back up to the point where he deserves such a fight and can bring something to the party. At this point in time, Golovkin has more important things to deal with. GGG has spent enough time waiting after other fighters and now Ward can wait his turn instead.
Ward already passed the criteria to be high on a p4p list years ago. He doesn't need to prove he's that good, he already has. You keep acting like he hasn't fought at all since he beat Froch and Paul Smith was his first fight since. He beat a top 10 SMW in 2013 and missed one year. Now he's back. We already know he's one of the 5 best fighters in the sport. He's not ranked at 168 because he still hasn't fought at 168 since Rodriguez.
Everyone knows what this is really about. Your fear is so obvious I can smell the piss in your pants through my screen. It's okay, Ward being back in the ring isn't so scary.
So then Pac should still be number one. And why not leave Floyd on the list. His accomplishments should be enough for him to remain at number 1 for at least another 4 years of inactivity. Even if he is retired. There is always a chance he might come back.
I have more stringent criteria than beating one contender at a catchweight every 2 or 3 years. The way you rate fighters, you would be happy to come home with the best looking girl at the ugly girl contest.
So Ward ISN'T one of the best fighters on THIS planet?
He was at one time. Until he fights a top contender today, I have no idea where he ranks. I certainly will not put him back on a P4P list because he beat a fat, out of condition, poorly trained, lazy excuse for a prize fighter in Paul Smith.
But hey, you think Cotto is a deserving MW title holder so that doesn't say much for your opinion.
Wow! Another win in the Rousey column as her last PPV is said to have gotten around 1 million buys and that was with a very poor undercard and an extremely late night main event that lasted 34 seconds.
Matthysse. Anyone other than Khan, really. I just can't stand the guy. But then again... it could be promoted as Christians against Islam and the fight would sell itself. :boxing:

What have you done for me lately huh?
I would put everyone on your list on the top 10 before I would put Ward. :skull:
Boxing is based on opinions. You can use whatever ****ing criteria you want. It's fictional.
REALLY??? Care to tell me the last time an opinion won a fight in the ring? I guess Chavez Jr. really did win against Fonfara then, because that was his opinion as he staggered away from the ring babbling close to incoherently. That also means Manny beat Floyd and there are probably a ton of other fights who's result needs to be changed because of OPINIONS.
I learn something new every day around here!
Broner fighting a Shish Khabib? No thanks. Don't get Showtime in Canada anyways so it's not really much of a choice. Surprised that card is not on PBC to begin with.
No issue here with anyone rating Ward anywhere. People are being silly. We KNOW how good he is. He's been inactive, some of it past his control. Doesn't change the evidence in ring. I think Kovalev and Gonzalez are the only ones with the resume to compete against his inactivity and the established proof.
WHAT established proof? A couple of fights many years ago against now retired fighters? That is enough for you to put someone on a P4P list at number TWO? Do you rank college football teams based on their performance 3 to 4 years ago? Would you rank a tennis player in the top 10 if they only played one tournament per year because 4 years ago they won Wimbledon?
If there is one sport boxing should look to for how to rank their competitors, it is tennis. Inactive? You drop in the rankings. Play and lose against a lower ranked player? You drop in the rankings. Anything other than remaining active against top competition and you drop in the rankings.
For some reason, boxing fans are the most forgiving of their favorite athletes. No other sport has fans who are such blind followers. And no other sport has fans that are so delusional. I mean boxing fans make Leaf fans look sensible and reasonable in comparison. What a sport this is.
To use Ronda's argument about per minute pay against her I think Floyd crushed her in per PPV Buyer pay doe. $30M for 550k buys & maybe $5M-$7M for 1M buys.
No argument there. But Ronda is now the highest paid fighter in UFC and that is saying a lot. I congratulate her on her success and hope it continues in her upcoming movie career.
Everyone relies on their opponent. Think Tyson (vs McNeeley) & Holyfied (vs Foreman) had some novelty level PPV buys but the rule is the strength of the opponent increases or decreases PPV numbers accordingly. Manny found out the same thing vs Rios (475k) & Algieri (350k).
That has always been the case except for, strangely enough, Ronda Rousey. People tuned in to watch Floyd lose and they tune in to watch Rousey utterly destroy whoever is standing in front of her. And considering the level of competition in women's UFC, it is a remarkable statement that she drives the numbers she does.
I think Golovkin has the chance to attract fans in much the same way as Rousey does, by destroying his opponents as badly and as fast as possible. I hope his team gets that idea through to him that carrying someone for a few rounds is really not required to make the fans happy and satisfied. I'd rather see GGG destroy Lemieux in one round than see Floyd dance, duck and run for 12. I think that by doing so, GGG could pick up a lot of cross over UFC fans for his fights. Especially with Rousey talking about him at every opportunity.
did he not clean 168,,????>!? a much harder divison than bumlovekins middleweight
little G fans ?-----> haterade
No, he did not. He was never undisputed, unified SMW champion.
He's not there because of Paul Smith just like GGG isn't there because of Monroe, Kovalev isn't there because of Mohammedi and Rigondeaux isn't there because of that tall string bean Japanese dude. Why are people playing stupid right now? We all know what Andre Ward is capable of.
So Ward is on a 2015 P4P list for what he did way back in 2011? And that makes sense to you? In Oct, Golovkin will have had 12 fights in the same time period that Ward had 3. And Ward should be higher placed on the list? Ward should not be on the damn list at all!
he's american black that's why.
if ward was from wales, he'd be joe calzaghe.
floyd retired, so the american publication has to put an american on it.
common sense.
It makes no sense at all. So Floyd retired. Move everyone on the list up one position and add someone new at number 10. It's not rocket science. But instead of doing that, they created an entirely new list from scratch and re-evaluated every fighter. Stupid.
Why are people pretending Ward hasn't proved himself as one of the truly elite fighters in the sport? The only reason he was taken from the 2-3 spot was inactivity. Now that he returned, he's back where he was before. It makes sense.
There are not more than 3-4 fighters, at most, better than Andre Ward. He just needed to fight again. He did. He'll most certainly fight again before the year is out.
So by your criteria, Ward could have gotten in the ring for a sparring session and gotten back on the P4P list. OK, so you have very low standards. Mine tend to be considerably higher and you actually have to fight contenders on a regular basis to be on a P4P list, or to be ranked in the top 10.
Tell me why Ward is not a top 10 ranked SMW by RING if he is on the P4P list?
I get what you mean, and sure, ward deserved to test out how his body would feel in another weight, but its still an unofficial weight class. It doesn't seem fair that people sh*t on ggg for only proposing a fight at 164,but its perfectly fine for ward to actually fight at 172.
Once again...
GGG NEVER proposed any fight at 164. No one proposed a fight at 164 to anyone. It was a COMMENT MADE DURING A WEB INTERVIEW that people jumped all over. Nothing more, nothing less. People really have to stop giving it more weight than it was meant to have. It's like Ralph Macchio's character in My Cousin Vinny saying "I shot the clerk" and the police trying to say it was a confession.
Yeah that must be it. It's all because of Mayweather! LOL
Everything is because of Mayweather, didn't you know that? People hate PBC because of Floyd. People hate Haymon because of Floyd. People hate Floyd because they are racist. Same shit, different day.
But never suggest that people don't like GGG because he is not American and not black. That would get you immediately attacked.
Oops... now I've gone and done it. :skull:
