GGG sold out the garden, made history with presale tickets and has never even fought in New York City nor the garden.
Everyone thought GGG needed a Cotto/Canelo win to become a legitimate star but I have a weird feeling GGG's first ppv against Lemieux will make him a star. If Floyd Berto did 550,000 ppvs on the higher end then I think GGG might do similar numbers for his first PPV.
Nobody is saying that you utter retard. Success in business is measured by whether you can actually turn a profit. That's the point of putting on these events. In that regard ggg's fight can do better than Floyd's event. Understand now?
Op clearly means more sales that Floyd berto. Which is just not happening
If it does well, it will be because of the Canadian market.
Canadian/Brits are great fans. They support you no matter what your color is. Unlike here in the states.
Canadian buys will not be included in the stats. Only US buys. Canadian will be lumped in with International sales as a different statistic as the dollars are distributed differently.
i'm willing to bet real money against anyone who thinks lil g vs lemieux will sale over 600k.

I don't want the fight to be too big. If it does 100k-150k it would be perfect. Why? because I don't want every single future GGG fight being a PPV. If it was successful ggg and his team will only get greedy and become another Diva like so many of them. Also if it completely fails it would make others just write him off as "not big enough".
I already see some signs of Diva'esque GGG team behavior when it comes to Ward. Also Ward himself acts like a prime diva too.
I like what Lemieux did. He could have hid in Montreal and collected steady million+ dollar checks. He said nope, give me GGG and made EOTTM put pressure on Golden Boy to negotiate. He will lose his head in the fight, but his hunger is real and more fighters should follow his act.
It's a lot of buys but it's a poor number relative to the budget. Ggg's event can do better because it might be able to turn a profit, whereas I highly doubt Floyd's did. Having a lot of sales is great but if your operating costs dwarf that then the event, or business, is a failure. It's simple economics. Floyd getting paid 32 million does not make it a success.
True, but you need to keep in mind this is the last fight of the deal. Since 2 fights were so incredibly profitable it offset this one which surely will lose money given Floyd's guarantee.
We have been jaded by Mayweather and Pacquiao PPV numbers over the years. Realize that they are the only two in boxing that could draw 1M buys. 550k is a lot of buys. Non maweather and pacman PPVs would consider this a success. and I don't think this GGG fight gets that. his name is not big enough yet

Doubt It! Neither is Mexican and neither is American. Casuals won't give a sh1t about that fight, most casuals don't even know who these guys are. Then again that shows how stupid Casuals are, they always miss out on the Entertaining Fights they want because they buy PPV based on NAMES

Good post. Floyd and Manny took BAD level opponents -Algieiri and Berto-and did 425k and 550k. they both deserve more credit from opposing fans.

hell no. floyd mayweather is a household name. i doubt that even alvarez-cotto does much more than mayweather-berto
Well GGG is in October and there's another Rousey PPV in early December so people may pass over the Cotto - Canelo fight to save a few bucks. Especially if they add Ward to the undercard. After all... Ward is draw spelled backwards and that is the effect he usually has on a fight. :)
Cotto/Martinez sold 21,000 tix for their fight at MSG, but only did 315k on ppv.

One reason they had such a strong turnout was due the the Puerto Rican festivities but they loss out national coverage during the week to the potential Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes and LA/NY NHL finals.
I'm feeling good that this does a little over 400k.
