Rewatching Andre Ward Fights During This Lockdown? JK. THAT DUDE WAS A CON JOB!

He went unbeaten from age 12 all the way up until he retired in 2017.I can't really comment because I've never really seen film of Andre in the amateurs...but in a lot of ways, ams are like popularity contests, especially if you develop a big name/come from a country with a big boxing following.
I think Ward's personal story - parents died/were drug addicts, and he was taken in by famed trainer Virgil Hill - probably charmed a lot of people in the amateur circuit...and I would assume he employed the same dirty tactics in those fights.
He is a tough guy to dominate when he gets dirty...so if you are the star in the ams, and you muck up a lot of your rounds, you probably win all of those fights by default.
Would love to see some footage of him in the ams though.
Look up all of your favorite hall of fame ATG fighters not named Lomachenko, they all have L's on their records in the amateurs within these years.
No one gave a single ***** about Andre Ward's personal life in the amateurs...you either win or you lose. And, people get robbed all the time. For Andre to go unbeaten that long, he really must have decisively won those fights. I'm sure there were some close ones, but he won at the end of the day. His very last defeat, everyone with knowledge or who was there to witness it said Ward was robbed BIGTIME as well.Comment

As an MMA guy, I see through this fraud's act. He figured out early that grappling>boxing. Hear me out first before getting mad.
He figured out that grappling completely nullifies boxing and his only talent in the sport was blending it with boxing just enough so that it could barely fit into the marquis of queensbury rules of boxing. This scumbag even trained extensively with MMA grapplers to get a further edge there.
He is not a boxer and never was. Maybe a boxer from the 19th century where greco roman grappling was a huge part of the sport.
I didn't even mention all the other illegal tactics so you know I'm being fair. It's the grappling that made him what he is.
The biggest disgrace is that this once great sport allowed this farce to go on and perhaps that this complete sociopath himself acts like his career was legit. I think Ward might have dismembered **********s' bodies in the back of his trunk. Pure evil to live such a lie with such a straight face.Comment

The stats and facts dictate that Ward will be a Hall of Famer.
I'm not averse to a little "sleight of hand" but Andre took it a bit too far too often for my taste.
C'est la vie.Comment

By far the biggest moment of his career was landing a bullseye shot to groin on an opponent he already lost to, then laying on him as he hunched over to make it look like he was quitting:

But it didn't even make the list of his 10 lowest/dirtiest moments
Glad he's gone & forgotten, but I wish someone at some point would have just gotten fed up and started tripping, ragdolling him every time he tried to foul themLast edited by ////; 04-13-2020, 05:50 AM.Comment

He boxed well for once but I'm sure you'd be offset by someone using dirty tactics on you knowing they won't be punished. Kessler was at a major disadvantage when Ward was able to smack him with whatever part of his body he pleased.Comment

If rules weren't meant to be broken there'd be more to enforce them. The whole point in the ref only system is so you can manipulate the ref. Ward was excellent.
Maybe guys like Kovalev should have taking an acting class and learned stage blocking.
People who cry about Dre are no different than people who cry about Tyson Fury's gloves. Just whiners missing the big picture.Comment

So tell me who he would have lost to besides Sergey?Man idk I just don't really see it with Ward...obviously he could do some things well...he was a tough smart fighter for sure.
But when you are able to get away with a lot of stuff, it just kind of negates the point that you are 'great'.
I just think it's very fair to point out that he had a lot of help in his career, and without that help, I personally don't think his record or career would look much like it does now.
Ward was a ""find a way to win" type of guy with a high level of boxing IQ and toughness to go with it.
So he most likely would have found a way to win anyway looking at his fights and opponents.( outside of Sergey)
Most of these guys wasn't close to beating him.
Like i say lets not disregard everything about the guy and claim he would lose every fight if the ref was different.Comment

Fighting dirty is apart of the game. But dudes whine depending on who did it and vs who!If rules weren't meant to be broken there'd be more to enforce them. The whole point in the ref only system is so you can manipulate the ref. Ward was excellent.

So if Ward, Floyd etc. "Off with their head"
Fury vs Wilder? Maidana vs Floyd?
