Rewatching Andre Ward Fights During This Lockdown? JK. THAT DUDE WAS A CON JOB!

The truth is, most fighters have their dirty tricks, including our most venerated heroes. It's a fight after all. I just found Ward to be a bit too blatant and "ugly" with it.
Perhaps I expected more given his Olympic background.Comment

Say what every you can say about Ward's career he made the other fighters fight his fight and out skilled them. If he was a con job he would had lost badly. His skill level, ability to adjust and boxing IQ is what won him his fights.
The Froch fight and the Kovalev's fights were not boring. But his style does not appeal the masses and it is why he was not a superstar.Comment

Good post.
I feel the same way more or less. Ward never been my cup of tea from a fan standpoint. But i respect his will to win. I really think he would have found a way to win dirty or not in most of these fights everyone whining about.
Tbh i felt like he was gomna win the 2nd Sergey fight. Due to Sergey mentally unraveling as soon as the 2nd fight was signed. Team Ward was playing hella mind games.
( I had Kov. Winning first fight btw)Comment

You couldn't have rewatched more than one or two fights if you think his whole career is the way you describe.
More likely you just made this thread to troll and I just fell for it.Comment

People can **** on Ward all they want but he was one of the most supremely skilled boxers of the modern era. The man was very good at everything, and great at many things. Few fighters were as good at transitioning between offense and defense at any range like Ward. He could dominate inside and outside.
The man basically beat Carl Froch with just his left hand. In fact he didn't just beat him, but dominated him.
I hate what happened in the Kovalev rematch as much as anyone, it made me stop watching boxing for years afterwards. If you're denying just how excellent a fighter Ward was, though, you're flat out wrong.Comment

...what?Ward could fight the same crop of fighters ten times and I’d be surprised if he made it out undefeated even once. Just lucked out on the first go around. I knew it. He knew it. Weak chinned fighter who was nearly destroyed by Darnell Boone. Adopted the John Ruiz grappling style and counted his lucky stars all the way to early retirement before someone could expose him for the fraud he is.
Ward dominated every world class fighter he fought except for Kovalev and Bika. No one else came close to beating him. And Bika wasn't a debatable fight, just not a dominant win like everyone else besides Kovalev.Comment

Yep. I won't defend the dirty tactics, people have good reason to be upset with the Kessler fight, but Ward was humiliating him before a single clash of heads occurred.Comment

I too had him falling just short in the first Kovalev fight but what heart and determination he showed. Certainly one tough and smart guy in that ring.Good post.

Beterbiev was the answer. He is very good in the clinch and has trained with world class MMA grapplers. He was even stronger than Ward(who was not a boxer) in the clinch. Ward obviously retired before he could face him.By far the biggest moment of his career was landing a bullseye shot to groin on an opponent he already lost to, then laying on him as he hunched over to make it look like he was quitting:

But it didn't even make the list of his 10 lowest/dirtiest moments
Glad he's gone & forgotten, but I wish someone at some point would have just gotten fed up and started tripping, ragdolling him every time he tried to foul themComment
