you just have to accept theres a legion of haters that will insist that ward retired to avoid bivol, gvozdyk and beterbiev....its just the nature of this thing

the bottom line is that, at the time and even now, none of those guys are as known as kovalev was...who was headlining shows on hbo....nobody was going to pay ward the purses he got for both kovalev fights to face any of those guys....and they certainly werent going to pay ward "more" than what he got for the kovalev fights....and ward was probably looking for a raise after two tough fights...but he certainly wasnt getting off the couch for less and thats just the reality of it

All it would have took was one shot and Ward would have been finished. He knew it so he started fighting dirty and grabbing, John Ruiz style. Worked like a charm as well, I won’t deny that. But it isn’t a sign of greatness by any means.

If I operated in a world with no rules while everyone else had to abide by the rules then I would beat everyone at everything; I would take short cuts with my race car, grab extra money while playing Monopoly, punch everyone who disagreed with me and then call the cops when someone retaliated. The world would be mine. Suckers like you would bow down at my feet saying “say what you want. *******Dayz seems to have figured life out and is going to the hall of fame. Can’t deny his skills” lmfao

        Biggest disgrace in boxing history.

        1. not entertaining

        2. all of his skills are illegal tactics (headbutts, clinching, roman greco wrestling, double legs, head butts, nut shots)

        3. boring as ***. all his fights are literally 2 dudes hugging it out. you have got to be a **** to like his fights.

        4. 0 wow factor. no athleticism. no power. just a lot of fouling.

i scratch my head at how this dude even carved out a career for himself in pro sports. and now he critiques people who actually fight within the rules of boxing. This dude is the biggest con job in boxing history. Period.

I'm just glad he ripped Jay Z off. PUAHAHAHAHAHA holy ***. that's poetic justice.
At least he whooped the "Krusher's" ass; Not once but twice. The last time he forced the "Krusher" to quit. Morality wins!

No offense but apart from American networks hoping for the next Leonard and people like Nelson on sky trying to jump on the black wagon, who remembers ward?

He did nothing before the s6, then joined and somehow fouled his way to a win over Kessler, had an easy path through the tournament but then actually showed some balls against froch.

Just when I was getting to like him he ducked bute, ducked a froch rematch, fought nobodies and finally faced kovalev, only to lose. He then fouled his way to the single worst win of the decade.

Who cares now? I saw him on YouTube with glasses and a bowtie lol

            puahahahahhaa. perfectly summarized.

that's exactly how everyone feels about him. even the beta cuckold phaggets defending him in this thread.

none of these cuckolds would pay to watch him but they'll pay him lip service though. completely spineless idiots.

That's the whole point of the post, that he doesn't deserve to be seen as this. Your reply makes no sense therefore

Here is the most important quote if you don't wanna read the entire article:

However, there has been one boxer who has at least made an attempt to call out Golovkin. Erislandy Lara, regarded by many as the best junior middleweight in the world, has taken to Twitter to say that he would welcome a fight with Golovkin. Only, of course, there is one big problem with that. Golovkin exclusively fights on HBO when he is televised in the United States. Lara works for Golden Boy which only works with Showtime when it comes to premium cable in the US.

Managing Director of K2 Promotions Tom Loeffler, who handles Golovkin, had this to say on the matter, via Boxing Scene's Jake Donovan:

"It's well known that Gennady Golovkin - when he fights in the United States - is under exclusive contract with HBO. Lara is with Golden Boy and fights on Showtime. So while he is a great fighter for whom we have a tremendous amount of respect, the bottom line is that HBO is our biggest strategic partner and it's up to his promoter to get him accepted by HBO.

"The strange thing is that his name really never came up. His insistence took us by surprise. It's not that Gennady doesn't want to fight him - he'll fight anyone and continues to prove that. But we were looking at fighters who we know can and will fight on HBO."

Take from that what you will but I just wanted to provide some context. If anything I think Demetrius Andrade has more of a case for being ducked than Lara does because GGG and Andrade both fight on DAZN.

words from Tom " bullshltter " Loffler will not cut the mustard

Lara was willing to fight Golovkin on HBO

dude... they said that Willie Monroe Jnr is a bigger draw than Lara... that tells the whole story right there

ERISLANDY LARA'S MANAGER SAYS THEY'RE WILLING TO FIGHT GOLOVKIN ON HBO AND COMPARES PPV NUMBERS

Canelo had the balls to fight Lara, Golovkin did not

Look up all of your favorite hall of fame ATG fighters not named Lomachenko, they all have L's on their records in the amateurs within these years.

No one gave a single ***** about Andre Ward's personal life in the amateurs...you either win or you lose. And, people get robbed all the time. For Andre to go unbeaten that long, he really must have decisively won those fights. I'm sure there were some close ones, but he won at the end of the day. His very last defeat, everyone with knowledge or who was there to witness it said Ward was robbed BIGTIME as well.
Yeah I stand by my comments man. His am record was apparently 115-5...maybe 1/3rd of those fights, so 40 of those fights, he was actually fighting a live dog?

20 of those fights he probably was just genuinely better than the guy he fought and won clean...so that leaves like 20 real fights for him...apparently he actually lost 5 of them...15-5 or so...and I would bet that all 20 of so of those fights were really close and he maybe got the nod in more than his earned share because of his country/name/affiliations.

And yeah he definitely had some buzz in the ams, with his association with Virgil Hunter, and then also his personal story...how many ams have a notable trainer like Hunter man...it never happens.

If I saw some tape on him in the ams and saw him schooling the top guys I wouldn't hate, I would give him props...but based on what I saw from him in the pros, he didn't really separate for me skills-wise anytime he faced a B level or above guy.

And when you always fight at home, get really dirty in there, and still have close competitive fights or dubious decisions...I mean idk I just don't really see the cause celebre.

I see what you're saying...but with a lot of guys, they maybe dabbled in one of the dark arts...and they still really could excel without it at times...they could beat guys and dominate at times without resorting to anything really dirty.

Ward really was a tough guy...but along with that, he did basically everything dirty in there you could do lol...throw elbows, headbutt, low blow, clinching...and all with that, I never really saw any clinical boxing skills from him vs good fighters...a couple exceptions of course, but generally he seemed to struggle against B-level and above guys, and that's with him getting away with the dirty stuff and being at home and knowing he had the refs too.

That's a big difference for me personally vs other 'dirty' fighters...I saw them excel vs other good fighters without needing to really get dirty...Ward seemed like he needed to really get dirty vs anyone Bika level and above...when you watch him fight someone like Brand, he doesn't need to do that of course, and he looked pretty good there.

I think also a difference between Ward and other 'dirty' fighters like BHop, Holyfield, or Wlad...is that those guys all took official losses...in that sense, they got their just desserts.

Pointing out the stuff with Ward is kind of like saying - in a different scenario, a guy like that should have been 5-5 or so in 10 fights that he had...instead he was 10-0, and people really want to swear that he was 10-0 in those fights and they were all legit lol.

Idk I just don't really see how people don't factor in that Ward always fought at home, got great cards in his fights because of that, and also walked a very fine line between fair and foul in his fights, and also obviously benefited from being at home in that sense too.

I think it is very fair to wonder what his record or career would have been had he just been some random guy from a different country...personally I don't think he would have had nearly the amount of official success he had.
