Froch is a very bitter man.
How do you feel about Andre Dirrell?Comment

I can't really comment because I've never really seen film of Andre in the amateurs...but in a lot of ways, ams are like popularity contests, especially if you develop a big name/come from a country with a big boxing following.
I think Ward's personal story - parents died/were drug addicts, and he was taken in by famed trainer Virgil Hill - probably charmed a lot of people in the amateur circuit...and I would assume he employed the same dirty tactics in those fights.
He is a tough guy to dominate when he gets dirty...so if you are the star in the ams, and you muck up a lot of your rounds, you probably win all of those fights by default.
Would love to see some footage of him in the ams though.Last edited by Boxing_1013; 04-12-2020, 11:17 PM.Comment

Ward is definitely a legitimate hall of famer. He’s no joke.
He took on kovalev in the peak of his days and got the job done in the rematch (although I think he should have lost the decision in the first fight)
He has a great fighters mentality, and adjusts very well.
But it’d be interesting to see if boxing adjusted some of their rules/judging criteria to see what impact it would have.
Like stricter punishments on clinching for example.
That would result in harsh punishments and compete disqualification that everyone understands is “fair” if it happened.
For example..
I truely think it’d cause someone like Klitschko to either raise his standard and become a better fighter without having the ability to just clinch anytime time his opponent got near.
Or he would struggle and have more loses or tougher fights on his record.
Another example is too much ring movement or over caution in the fight. Low output, almost amateurish style of fighting.
Would be interesting to see if that would result in the judges swaying towards a more aggressive fighter and deducting points off a fighter who is there to “score points” as opposed to “fighting”.
This is why I loved Emanuel steward.
He could appreciate boxing skills, but would know that it’s a fight, and you’ve got too entertain and rumble.
He was very disappointed in fighters if they would be a level above and just Coast to the finish line. (Look at Mayweather vs baldomir for example)
I love boxing. And i get it, it’s hit and don’t be hit.
But it ain’t a sport, it’s entertainment.
So id love to start seeing the closer fights consistently going toward the aggressors, to start a chain reaction on how fighters can win.
And fighters start to understand that they will be deducted and lose fights based on those tactics.
Look at Roberto Duran or James toney.
Those dudes can hit and not be hit better than anyone. But they fought hard and could be evasive right in front of you.
I think it would make boxing extremely exciting.
Anyway... just a ramble. Hard to make my point when typing on a phone on a forum.
Not trying to talk down on boxers. Just think we need to lean towards the “action” more.
I’m with Emanuel steward. There’s a level when it just becomes boring and you become disinterested in the fighter. He’s not gonna knock him out. And he doesn’t care about anything other than playing it safe and getting a victory.
They need to make fighters get into it. And close the show.
Not just clinch and be over cautious.Comment

I was watching the Mikkel Kessler fight just the other day.
It is worth a rewatch, just to dispel the myths that Ward won only because of the accidental headbutts. He was beating the brakes off Kessler with his boxing.

Man skill-wise, putting Ward in Floyd's category is a joke. People saying they saw great skills/dominance from Ward vs any good fighter, I mean I just don't know what they were seeing...
The dude was a tough, smart fighter...but he benefited from a ton of home cooking in his career...if he was from another country like Venezuela he would have had a lot of losses and DQs...if he was from a neutral country he would have a few losses and a couple DQs.
I mean there is no real moment in his career where I saw him in a big fight and was in awe of his skills...and that's not hating...I have more in common with the guy genetically than you do anyway I bet.
Exactly...Comment

Why post the highlights and not the actual fight though lol.
He actually was boxing well in that fight - and it's ironic because that is the one big fight of Ward's where I really felt he was boxing pretty well and was somewhat impressed...I thought he beat Froch but it was a pretty lackluster coasting performance imho.
But how can you really overlook the clinching and headbutts there...again if that fight was in Kessler's backyard, Ward is almost certainly DQd. In a neutral venue he is probably DQd. That's not really anything to get excited about is it..idk I just don't see how people overlook that stuff when evaluating a guy.
If GGG beat Derevychenko with identical tactics at home in Karaganda Kazaakstan, I would give him a ton of sh.it for it and wouldn't even really look at it as a real win...it's a joke man.
Every big fight for Ward has a big 'yeah but' moment/moments...I just don't see how all of those 'yeah buts' aren't factored in when evaluating the guy.Last edited by Boxing_1013; 04-12-2020, 11:26 PM.Comment
