  • BS! Let's be honest, Haymon didn't allow it. The problem is that for this fool wasn't enough to just turn down the offer but he somehow felt that ****ting over Hearn/AJ will please uncle Al. When Hearn threatened to expose them, this clown had no other option but to fall on his own sword.

Cuz from my reading of the MAA I don't recall seeing anything like that. So do promoters technically EVER have to show the fighter these details if they are slippery enough with it or do they have to show eventually but its up to interpretation how & when you do disclose that info?

I know I recall reading of Chris Algeri's issues with his promoter & he said he'd learn at the weigh in that for example he was only getting $2M of a $3.8M deal. But idk if thats a hard deadline or just how Chris' promoter happened to do it.

Randomly you should have a I've Promoted Pro Boxing AMA thread here if you don't already got one. I know I've bumped heads with you in the past on some opposing philosophies on the business of boxing but I appreciate your real knowledge, experience & insight into some of the behind the scenes realities of how the sausage is made.

the Act does not specifically state WHEN the disclosures have to be made, except to say the promoter cant get paid until the fighter gets the disclosure. So most promoters have the MAA disclosures signed when the purse check is signed for after the fight. Some do it at the weigh in. If your fighter knows the true revenue, then doing it at the weigh-in would be fine, as it would be no surprise. But if your fighter did NOT know the true figures. then the last thing they want is the fighter upset before the fight, or perhaps even refusing to fight.

The technical language requires the promoter to disclose all revenue, which would include the tv money. Here is the wording from the Act:

‘(b) DISCLOSURES TO THE BOXER- A promoter shall not be entitled to receive any compensation directly or indirectly in connection with a boxing match until it provides to the boxer it promotes--

      ‘(1) the amounts of any compensation or consideration that a promoter has contracted to receive from such match;

‘(2) all fees, charges, and expenses that will be assessed by or through the promoter on the boxer pertaining to the event, including any portion of the boxer’s purse that the promoter will receive, and training expenses; and

‘(3) any reduction in a boxer’s purse contrary to a previous agreement between the promoter and the boxer or a purse bid held for the event.

      • Such a waste of time discussing these things. The fans always get information in dribs and drabs. He said, she said bullshit. Who knows who’s telling the truth? If Luís was kept in the dark about the talks, I feel sorry for him. This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him...shot to bits.

        • I know it was last minute and all but it looks to me that Team Ortiz tried to take advantage of the situation. They attempted to squeeze all the money they could out of Anthony Joshua, Matchroom and DAZN.

I said this before and I am going to say it again. Eddie Hearn shouldn't allow himself to be strong armed by a Team with no leverage. After they refused the initial $5mil offer, I would have kicked them out of my office with no counter offer.

I say this because by that point, it was painfully obvious they didn't want the fight and were cashing themselves out. So there was need to extend negotiations.

Ortiz can demand anything he wants.

Thing is his promoter can still say no.

But yea you are on the right path. Ortiz needs to publicly shame or insult or plead or w/e he feels like will work.

            • This would be worse than ducking this would be a missed opportunity from ******ity and ****ty management. Far more damaging.

              • There you go. Caicedo is saying that if Hearn shows them a real contract without any games that Ortiz will sign it.

With Ortiz's manager, trainer and promoter all claiming that they wanted to make the fight, it shouldn't be a problem for his promoter to go back to Eddie Hearn, swallow his pride and try and make the fight.
He can demant it, but his "promoter" has the right to refuse, so does his manager. As a matter of fact they have blocked him before when he was with Golden Boy.
