Yup I think these guys are gangsters who helped him defect and as a reward they are forced to sign insane 1 sided promotion contracts. These dudes are locked in 10 year deals and all kinds of crazy shyt that puts guys like Don King back in the day to shame. He can't get out his deal with Dade Promotions they control him. It's really sad how these cubans are being exploited. But I guess that was the price they paid to defect.Comment

Ortiz is NOT like most of the other Haymon fighters he actually has a promoter...Dade Promotions. They control his rights while Haymon is just a adviser. Other fighters that don't have a promoter haymon calls the shots and is a de facto promoter. But here he can't make a move without Dade Promotions signing off and neither can Ortiz. Dade Promotions aren't even real promoters who put on shows they gangsters that signed him to a extortion deal when he came from Cuba. And basically sell him off to other promoters to put on their cards taking a huge chunk of his purse. Now I see why he only made 500K to fight Wilder. He with Haymon and Haymon get's his guys paid well. Probably was paid 1M and Dade Promotions took half so all Ortiz was left is 500K.
But what about wilder and Kownacki turning down crazy money ?
There’s a on going pbc trendComment

Hmmm so a promoter who most likely gets a commission based on the purse turns down 5+ million offer after his guy previously got about 500k purse for a previous title fight and now his guy will likely be fighting for 1/5 or less than the offer in his next fight as well.
My conclusion is he is on a cycle between fights
Or someone he calls his adviser, advised him not to take the fight.
The promoter stuff is nothing but BS.Comment

Ortiz's manager said it would have put $5million in Luis's bank account. But the promoter thought that was a lowball and tried to screw $10million out of Hearn.Last edited by kafkod; 04-26-2019, 04:44 PM.Comment

He needs 6 months to get in shape for Joshua.
If Ortiz was still serious about boxing. He should be in shape ALWAYS.

Anyone who has followed Ortiz career knows Dade Promotions are a sketchy shady promotions company that got their hooks into Ortiz and control everything. Remember Golden Boy had him lined up for a title shot he agreed and wanted to take the fight but Dade Promotions wanted more money and blocked the fight. Finally golden boy said these guys are too much hassle to deal with and took a buyout reported for a million to be done with him. Then he signed a co-promotion deal with Match room who Dade Promotions complained and bumped heads with. Now he's with PBC and still Dade Promotions are causing problems and hiding info from their own fighter lying about he amount he's being offered and telling promoters offering him a fight he can't take the fight he is on vacation not in shape. While the trainer and manager are saying he actually lives in the gym and we never heard about the offers and then when we did the numbers were different.
Rigo and other cubans have dealt with this too. Sham Promoters must be extorting these fighters. Making them sign slave contracts that never expire just to come to the US when they don't even put on shows aren't real promoters in the first place. You can't blame this mess on haymon or PBC.
I legit pay attention to a lot of the business sh^t & it interests me, but for w/e reason it completely leapfrogged over me that Ortiz wasn't a free agent.
Random question since you seem to know more about Dade than anyone here. Do Dade put on shows at all?
Seems like there is a whole subgenre of promotions that don't really do shows & are basically like middlemen leasing out there contracted fighters. I don't even get why this is legal. To me if you aren't putting on shows you aren't even a promoter. And even if you are putting on shows but so infrequently that you can't sustain a boxers career I don't think you should be allowed to lock guys up on a contract.
But obviously a lot of this sh^t just lands in the square of fighters being intelligent with who they sign with I guess is the main thing.Comment
