And a 40-year-old McCallum was giving Jones a boxing lesson until his legs went.

Of course, thats why rop dropped him twice....and excuses exuses juy juy, Roy beat both of them, and handily. Stop your hating.

I'm going by memory, I don't remember Griffin being dropped. But I do remember Griffin putting a schooling on Jones.

Griffin wasn't "schooling" but he was definitely holding his own in the first fight. Griffin was ahead on the cards, also. And that was a brutal foul. So Roy earned that loss with that blunder. And it may have been slightly out of frustration, actually. Roy was definitely having trouble with Griffin and not getting over like he normally does.

Griffin was a very frustrating guy to fight when he was on. He frustrated Toney in two close fights, beating him both times. Close fights, but he rightfully won.

But yes, Roy redeemed himself with the second fight which was conclusive enough for me. Nobody is questioning Roy's greatness, here. I love Roy, but to say that he was that much better than Dariusz that their fight was unecessary (as some are) is ******ed. To say that the burden wasn't slightly more on Roy would be incorrect, also. Roy should have fought him and didn't. And for that he left himself wide open for deserving criticism for not doing so. Period.

griffin was dropped twice in that fight...the last knock down roy polished him with a right when montell was on one knee...montell paused..looking stunned then dropped to the canvas. griffin was definately holding his own and was the first to expose roy's little vulnerabilities in the ropes.

I can understand RJJ not going to Germany to fight DM.He could have been robbed on the scorecards if it went the distance or maybe even a bad stoppage. It just wasn't worth it imo.

Only Benn,Eubank, and McClelland would of stood much chance at beating Jones junior. I suppose Michalczewski fight should of happened, but the biggest fight by far was Nigel Benn(between the McClelland win and Malinga loss),that was maybe a bigger fight to be made than Lennox Lewis and Rid**** Bowe after the Benn/McClelland fight.

I think McClelland would of stood the best chance of beating Jones junior. He walked through Jones juniors best punches in 1988,Tommy Hearns best punches in 1988,Julian Jacksons best punches in 1993 and Nigel Benns best punches. He would of walked throught Jones juniors best punches again and dropped him with the overhand right or left hook to body(or both),then would of jumped on him if Jones junior beat the count. Remember, before the McClelland tragedy Jones junior was not so cautious in his approach. It was only after the McClelland tragedy that Jones junior stopped going head first for knockouts,so Jones junior/McClelland would of been the Hagler/Hearns of the 90s only McClelland had a strong chin where Hearns had a weak chin and Jones junior had a weak chin where Hagler had a strong chin.
