lets set the record straight on RJJ, who the **** did he dodge ?

RJJ was always accused of avoidin all the guys that the public wanted him 2 fight (Benn, Mcclennan, Eubank, Mike Nunn, stevie Collins, frankie Liles, Rocky, Darius M). now were Rocchigaini or Darius M ever willing 2 leave germany ?? i dont think they were, & RJJ made it clear that he wasn't willing 2 go 2 germany 2 fight. apparently the Mclennan fight was Gonna happen if Mclennan beat Benn, wasn't it ? i heard agents workin for RJJ were in the geordie crowd at Benn/Malinga ready with the contract for Benn 2 sign in the ring for after he beats Malinga (but he didn't, tho, & so that was the end of that). Eubank fight was gonna happen, but Eubank lost to Collins (watch RJJ/Byrd & RJJ is told that Chris lost & he looks totally shocked !).

that leaves us with Collins, Liles, & Mike Nunn. according to Iceman on this board, Collins asked HBO for 5 MILLION & so priced himself out. Liles was a Don King fighter & RJJ made it clear he wasn't doin business with King back then.

Mike Nunn is the only 1 i cant figure why he didn't fight, Nunn was the only guy other than RJJ 2 of handled James Toney with ease,, plus Nunn was RJJs #1contender at both 168 & 175. so that 1 is tricky.

readin magazines back in 1995 & 1996, RJJ even proposed cards 2 Benn & Eubank. he proposed an RJJ/Gainer/Al Cole vs Benn/Hamed/Bruno in 1995 for pensacola & an RJJ/Gainer vs Eubank/Hamed in 1996 for dubai. so there u go.

i cant think of who he dodged, other than maybe Mike Nunn ?

None of those fighters even had a chance of beating Jones. It's unfair for Jones to get bad mouthed for not fighting them.

is this some kind of joke ? mclennan already did beat him, & would of started as the favourite had they fought in 94. benn beat mclennan, & every body seemed 2 think rjj/benn would be a short slugfest with multiple knockdowns that could go either way

rjj admitted in his own words that eubank was the one guy who could of possibly beaten him (rjjs own words), i personaly would pick eubank 2 beat him but there u go

Actually it was EUBANK offering Jones Jr a non-title fight at light-heavy to take place in the Middle East, Eubank had gone into partnership with an Iranian businessman and Jones Jr would of had the biggest pay-day of his career. Eubank thinks Jones Jr feared him deeply.

Michalczewski is the main one. Not willing to fight the linear champ is definitely a dodge, however you slice it. Not to mention he was begged to make this fight for years by writers, fans, HBO, everyone.

He was content to be a paper champ at 175, sadly.

the problem was that he fought undeserveing guys instead istead of trying to make fights against better competition... people got tired of seeing him fight part time fighters, while the excuses piled up on why he didnt fight the other guys... i believe he would have beaten most all of those guys, but also believe he could have made those fights happen but chose not to... which in the end is still "ducking"....

also i'm tired of the "not fighting germany" excuse... there have been plenty of fighters to go into germany and get close decisions over the hometown hero or flat out win the fight.... virgil hill, michael moorer, botha, brewster, byrd, sanders, etc...

There was a time when Jones thinking about going to Germany to fight Michalczewski. Than Charles Brewer goes to Germany and gets his title ripped off by some clown named Sven Ottke (who also ripped of Byron Mitchell's title). After that Jones said **** Germany. And I don't blame him.

Eubank himself said he would never fight roy unless he was his number 1 contender. And roy wouldnt say that anyone could beat him, thats just not his style.

Michael Nunn wasn`t half the fighter he used to be by then, Benn had many terrible showings on Showtime (Giminez, Nardiello, Perez, how did Perez get a shot? ?) and neither would of even been competitive with Roy at that stage of their careers. Collins I can`t comment on because I only vaguely remember him against Kevin Watts yonks ago. Liles I can comment on and I can laugh at the suggestion of him being competitive with Roy, he was much slower than Roy that it`s not even funny
