One of the reasons why I think people say that modern fighters aren't as skilled as past fighters is because most of the great trainers are dead. Futch, Steward, Dundee, and Blackburn are all dead.

I see a few people disagreeing about Marquez, like somebody else said, he showed a great inside game against Diaz and Katsidis. When he chooses to, he works real good in the pocket. His uppercuts are vicious and he works the body good.

Floyd by a mile. I can't even think of another welterweight I'd call decent on the inside.
          Bundu is half decent.

He didn't really fight on the inside against either.

They forced the fight and he tee'd off on both from midrange and whilst creating distance.

I don't think they understand what in-fighting is...

matthysse can fight on the inside, pretty well too

he's a pressure fighter once he gets his rhythm, but he doesn't force things, usually starts off boxing, later ends up walking guys down with a big output which can come from all ranges, but like you said, his best are the longer punches

Yea. As mentioned above, most of u guys have no clue what inside fighting is.

Was thinking the same thing he would constantly take a half-step backwards too create room. It was more at mid-range.

I wouldn't say Porter was good on the inside either but I guess he is effective at imposing himself on the inside against fighters with zero inside game that don't know how too clinch.

Exactly. He stepped back to create distance to land his hooks and uppercuts and then changed angles. It was actually Diaz and Katsidis who had the majority of their success in the pocket in those fights.
