  • It has come out of Martinez's and his camp mouth.

Haters are still not going to give Cotto credit for the win.

I can see a lot of people getting ulcers because of this win

in his prime i would expect him to handle taking shots better. i mean since u did bring up what would have happen if martinez was in his prime, so if cotto was in his prime also then we get the same outcome LOL. u cant just pick one guy and say imagine if he was in his prime LOL. well imagine if the other guy was in his prime also. both of these guys are out of their prime so why act like martinez was getting beat down by a young cotto LOL.

It's all good, I'm not a major fan of either fighter and am calling it down the middle whereas you seem to be an ardent Cotto supporter.

It's as simple as me believing that Cotto is prime now and Sergio is not.
I made the mistake like a alot of people did by thinking his poor performance against Murray was just due to injuries, etc. but it indeed turned out to be age, etc. That combined with Cotto's brilliant left hooks took care of business but it was apparent that the guy was a lot slower both of hand and foot than he used to be.

In closing, if you think the fight would have gone that way a few years back, like 2009-10, you are sorely mistaken and wearing Cotto pink colored glasses.

        • I respect the hell out of Martinez not making any excuses. There's nothing he needs to say, Cotto on Saturday night was just the better man. A big part of it was certainly because Sergio was completely washed up, but that's also on Sergio he should have been honest with himself after the Murray fight and realized he was done. Sergio is one of my all time favorite fighters, but even before he got hurt in the first round it was clear he looked slow and stiff legged and it only got worse from there. Whether or not that's because he was just old or he got re-injured doesn't really matter that fight hadn't gone more than a minute and I knew this was going to go badly for him.

          • It's ok champ, we all know you're a class act, but it was clear to anyone with two eyes and a brain that you were just about finished after the Martin Murray fight. Time to hang em up.

Cotto looked great but Sergio was recovered from that punch in the first, otherwise he wouldn't have come out for the second round or gotten stopped in the second.

He last 8 more rounds so, I don't totally buy that a single punch in the first caused him to not be able to get his shots off or move around properly. If he was so damaged from that single punch, how did he take the 6th round or whatever round that was? He seemed to have his wits about him in that round.

It's called not being able to do what you used to do a few years ago. You know, when your knees weren't all jacked up. He was falling into the ropes from punches that didn't even land, man. No one is trying to steal Cotto's gusto here, there was some obvious issues with Sergio that people are trying to ignore/hide.

From Sergio's team's side, I just think they want to keep the door open for future fights. I have never had any surgeries at all on my knees but they will occasionally swell and become tender to the point where I have to stop jogging or whatever I'm doing and chill out for the day. I know what it looks like when a knee gets weak and gives out a little and I saw that a couple times last night.
Sergio is ***ed. He's injured beyond what anyone expected, maybe even himself and even a blind guy can see that.
You're trying to talk sense into people that arent logical because there's no logic in love. They just love the guy.
Its like trying to talk sense into a fking Justin Bieber fan.You talk facts with them and they dont care. "Look sweety, Justin just sucks, his songs suck, his letters sucks, he sucks as a human being, he just sucks" and the only reply you get is "OMG, Justin I love you SO MUCH, please make babies with ME!!"
And then you try to talk sense into the 15 year old teen again "Dear, Justin is gay"
              "I dont care!!"

For the time being, I like how Sergio is handling this. I was a fan going into the fight, and I'm a bigger fan now.

Very, very few fighters go out on top. Almost everyone sticks around too long. Maravilla stuck around a little too long. Champions always think they can win.

I'll tell you one thing, the thought of never recovering from blows in the first round and continuing to fight for another nine is mind-boggling to me. The balls that takes are off the charts.
A concussion and broken nose?! Oh im sorry who hits harder then who now!? Lmao i told you it was all about technique!

                  • Always been a Sergio fan. He gave us great memories. From the first P.Will fight to the destruction of JR. He'll be remembered as a great champion. He's handled this loss with nothing but class, the guy is a class act, really stand up man. I wish him the best and hope he got paid enough to retire on.

i like cotto but i wouldnt say im a fan. and if this fight happen in 09-10 im not saying the same outcome will happen as in cotto making martinez quit, but the same outcome whereas cotto will still come out being the winner. i dont see anything martinez can do that will trouble cotto except for his power.
