If he had beaten Lennox Lewis, then your post would have made sense.I think the problem is that when we have talent thats far superior to whats around at its time we punish them for it. Roy was by far better than his competition, so people's nature is to think everyone else must be sorry and he couldnt be that good. He just made his competition seem horrible he was faster and stronger and lightning quick in offense and defense. The guy WON THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP! HE WAS A MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION. Its just like how people were talking about Canelo before he fought floyd...it was gonna be a test and possibly Floyds first loss, by ko even. But Floyd outclassed him so badly and was just so much better people didnt give him credit but more hate. as opposed to just saying damn he's one boxing mf. No people dont like to give credit where credit is due. this generation hates skills and love brawls, youre supposed to see how many times you can get hit as opposed to using defense and offense. But Roy will be held in high regard forever. If you dominate your era thats all you can do so yes he's an ATG. OUT OF EVERYBOXER THAT HAS LACED UP GLOVES He is the only boxer in history to start his career as a light middleweight (154 lbs) and go on to win a heavyweight title. STOP HATING
ALSO he won the WBA Heavyweight title, becoming the first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title in 106 years
IF THAT AINT ATG WORTHY THEN YOU GUYS NEED A DIFFERENT SPORT.Comment

you guys are more full of hate than love for your sport. DO you understand THE WORDS EVER IN THE HISTORY OF BOXING Obviously this isnt something you luck into, if so, others would have done it BEFORE. STOP HATING ON OTHERS EXTRAORDINARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OR TRYING TO DOWNPLAY THEM.
He is the only boxer in history to start his career as a light middleweight (154 lbs) and go on to win a heavyweight title.
Jones left his mark in boxing history when he won the WBA Heavyweight title, becoming the first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title in 106 years YOURE ON A BOXING SITE so I assume you have SOOOME RESPECT for what these guys accomplish. this is not an accomplishment that you'll ever see again. RESPECT IS DUE!

All the guys Roy beat at Light Heavy went on to do nothing in their careers. Well, Tarver was in Rocky 6 I think lol... I'll give him loads more credit for beating Ruiz then I'll ever give Floyd for beating Canelo at a catch weight when Floyd had fought at 154 previuosly. Canelo had one decent win and they gave that fight against Trout to him before the first bell even rang.I think the problem is that when we have talent thats far superior to whats around at its time we punish them for it. what on earth is up with the influx of nine year olds into the forum?
i have a picture of andre ward as my avatar. that is evidently some sort of crime, and removes me from the right to discuss boxing?
you guys don't think it's a bit childish to bring up my avatar in a situation that doesn't at all involve it.
"well andre ward can't so there!"
that's how a child thinks. i'm not here to talk about boxing with children.
these threads are a discussion of the top 10, 20, etc boxers of all time by posters who aren't qualified to speak on the subject. they don't know what a top 1-20 boxer's resume looks like. they don't understand just how accomplished you could become in a career that may very well have 150 fights. most of these guys couldn't tell you the first thing about henry armstrong, sam langford, harry greb, roberto duran, ezzard charles. hell, they probably couldn't even tell you about the easy ones like muhammad ali, joe louis, and ray robinson.Comment

i am not saying that roy jones isn't an all time great. he's without a doubt one of the top 100 most accomplished and able boxers of all time.
he is not in the same class as the men in the top 20.Comment

these guys evidently aren't aware of just how much john ruiz ******, and how badly lennox lewis would have murdered roy jones.
many of the divisions recognize four "major world titles."
you get credit as a world champion because you win a belt of a certain color?
you get a ranking in those organizations by paying people money. you can get stripped for no reason. some belts have several champions per division. they mean absolutely nothing.
roy jones was never the HW champion. it was lennox lewis.Comment
