I don't really think Roy was shot when he fought Tarver the first two times. He was virtually undefeated and had come off some really good performances.

As far as many people were concerned he needed to just show up and he'd win.

After the first ko loss to Tarver - he was never the same.

It's not arguable, Roy's wins over Bhop and Toney are country miles better than any wins Floyd has ever had, and ever will have.

He sure wasn't prime, but the post I was responding to was talking about after Tarver as well. Why would those losses have any bearing on Roy's legacy? The man hit bottom in a snap.

Sure, I don't necessarily think that Toney and especially Hopkins were better wins than anything Floyd has on his resume. Toney was a great win for Roy, and Toney was indeed a great fighter - but everyone knows Toney was walking around at 180+ in those days, even reaching 200 pounds at some stage in his middleweight career.

I don't think people thought much of the Hopkins win at the time, though of course it looks good now after Hopkins has achieved so much. Floyd has a couple of really good wins as well that are on a high level.

Though Toney was a great victory for Roy, it really was.

Skill wise he is arguably the greatest and add to that he has a damned good resume from 160 to heavyweight.

              A case can be made.

I don't know. I'm pretty sure he was considered P4P the best when he fought Tarver the first time. But I agree that after that he wasn't the same, and shouldn't be judged thereafter - absolutely.

It's like saying Holyfield should be judged on his performances vs Toney and Ruiz etc. It doesn't take away from the fact that he is a consensus top 12 heavyweight of all times.

Don't know about specifically top 20 or whatever as i've never bothered to do a list, but the way i look at it is someone like Roy Jones is a once in a lifetime type of fighter. Maybe his resume is not up to the standards of our precious Boxingscene experts but you'd think these wannabe experts could spare a name or two on a resume when the talent is as extraordinary as Roy Jones was.

Is he one of the best ever? Absofuckinglutely.
