Cotto's Top 5: Mosley, Clottey, Judah, Quintana, Paulie.
You like to point out WHEN you beat someone is just as important as who. Quintana was a skilled WW who had just beat Joel Julio and then went to defeat Williams afterwards, he never looked the same after getting blitzed in the rematch.

That Foreman win is underrated, he was coming off a schooling of Santos for his title and a lot of people picked him to beat Cotto. Cotto schooled and stopped him.

Nobody is on here arguing, Cotto fans included, that Cotto is the level of fighter Mayweather or Pacquiao. Does his popularity cause him to get overrated? Of course, same as when people say Floyd or Pacquiao are the GOAT. The consensus seems to be he's not quite at their level, but he's at a higher level than most fighting today.

    • Question for 4Corners:

What do you consider a better win?

Cotto beating a 35 year old Mosley that just fought 4 months prior? Or Floyd fighting a 39 year old Mosley coming off a 17 month lay-off?

Also a Mosley coming off beating Fernando Vargas twice and schooling Collazo, who had just got robbed against Hatton. Timing

Yea that was a good win too.

            Corrales maybe, Castillo though?

            Castiilo has:
            Jorge Paez
            Stevie Johnson
            Joel Casamayor
            Diego Corrales

            Juan Lazcano
            Julio Diaz

            • I'm not sure there's many guys on Floyds resume that are better than the version of Mosley that Cotto beat. Mosley was still a fine fighter then. Cotto is a great of this era. His cv is incredible

              • Foreman is an underrated win. He just upset Santos prior to that and a lot of people were picking Foreman to win vs Cotto. Odds were only like 2-1

                  Freitas
                  Gainer
                  Manfredy

I'd even argue that Corrales' top 3 wins are better than Cotto's top 3

The only thing I've ever had to say about Cotto is he gets overrated by a lot of people, and in reality his resume isn't even as good as Jose Luis Castillo and it's about even to Diego Corrales. Seriously, just look at the wins.

But Delvin Rodriguez is the typical Cotto opponent in my book, when he's not facing a Mayweather, Pacquiao, or Mosley in 07'. A guy who's a decent enough fighter, would beat some of the low level guys and a few mid level guys, but is nothing more than just "decent" at best. A guy who no one would consider a good win for someone like Mayweather, Pacquiao, or any other fighter who is hated by tons.

He's similar to Cotto's fights against Carlos Maussa, Kelson Pinto, Randall Bailey, DeMarcus Corley, Ricardo Torres, Carlos Quintana, Oktay Urkal, Alfonso Gomez, Yuri Foreman, and now Delvin Rodriguez.

I just feel like Cotto fights A TON of guys that are of that caliber, mid level guys. Aside from his win over Mosley, and if you count Judah as a good win, who has Cotto really fought and beat that weren't mid level fighters at best???

*Note: I completely approve Delvin as an opponent consider he's coming off back-to-back losses to Floyd and Trout, just something I was thinking about today.
I can't really argue with this, but I will ask one question. Who hasn't fought many mid to lower level opponents? It's the nature of the game, there's only a handful of good fighters in each division.

I think Cotto has been a very good champ and one of the best PR has ever produced. He couldn't beat the A level guys, but that's ok.

It was 16 months, and it was the fight everyone wanted Floyd to take at the time. But Mosley in 07' was better simply because he was a bit fresher. Both were good wins though, Cotto's a little better.

After Mosley, his best wins are a Judah that hadn't won in like 2 years and Clottey, which was questionable to say the least.

Cotto fans take it so damn personal, but it's not like him not ducking anyone stops his resume from being relatively weak.
