Miguel Cotto's opponents

This is not a Cotto hate thread, I have no feelings about Cotto one way or the other. The only thing I've ever had to say about Cotto is he gets overrated by a lot of people, and in reality his resume isn't even as good as Jose Luis Castillo and it's about even to Diego Corrales. Seriously, just look at the wins.

But Delvin Rodriguez is the typical Cotto opponent in my book, when he's not facing a Mayweather, Pacquiao, or Mosley in 07'. A guy who's a decent enough fighter, would beat some of the low level guys and a few mid level guys, but is nothing more than just "decent" at best. A guy who no one would consider a good win for someone like Mayweather, Pacquiao, or any other fighter who is hated by tons.

He's similar to Cotto's fights against Carlos Maussa, Kelson Pinto, Randall Bailey, DeMarcus Corley, Ricardo Torres, Carlos Quintana, Oktay Urkal, Alfonso Gomez, Yuri Foreman, and now Delvin Rodriguez.

I just feel like Cotto fights A TON of guys that are of that caliber, mid level guys. Aside from his win over Mosley, and if you count Judah as a good win, who has Cotto really fought and beat that weren't mid level fighters at best???

*Note: I completely approve Delvin as an opponent consider he's coming off back-to-back losses to Floyd and Trout, just something I was thinking about today.

I mean his 3 best wins are Mosley, Judah, and Clottey.

Cotto is a good fighter, he is. But the level he achieved in his career wasn't really warranted by his resume. He beat a lot of mid level, lower tier fighters, beat a couple good ones, lost to the really good fighters.

I'm not sure it's always just about the wins. It can be about how you lose too, Jose Luis Castillo's loss to Mayweather is a good example.

Anyhow, I think you do him a disservice looking at his record:

Corley, Torres, Malignaggi, Quintana, Judah, Mosley, Clottey, Foreman, Mayorga, Margarito

Decent performances in defeat v Margarito, Mayweather and Trout.

Cotto is a B+ fighter that has beaten B level opponents and lost to A level fighters...he's a good fighter but if he wasn't puerto rican, wouldn't have half of the hype that he gets

I honestly feel Cotto got big because he was good, he's a good fighter, but because Puerto Rico needed a star after Trinidad was on his way out. Had Cotto come out when Felix was the man still, I doubt he could have gotten as big as he did. I mean, Cotto is the 3rd place PPV guy, only behind Mayweather and Pacquiao who are superstars.

You would think this guy had an "elite" resume, when in reality, I'm not sure if Cotto's resume is Hall of Fame worthy in all honesty. Why should Cotto's wins get him in, and not someone like Castillo, who's resume is better, or even someone like Corrales, who's resume is similar in terms of wins.

Well I actually consider that a Castillo win, which elevates him in my book. He's the only guy I ever thought beat Floyd.

Cotto's not shot, but he hasn't been prime since 2008. I'd say it's what it is.....a decent or solid win for Floyd. Which is generally what it's considered.

Cotto is between a fighter like Zab Judah or Joshua Clottey, and a fighter like Shane Mosley or Oscar De La Hoya. But the way he's talked about, you'd think he had an elite resume given his hype.
