I can't get mad at Cotto though, he did face Mayweather and Trout, I understand this isn't to knock him but you have to understand that we're talking about a fighter who at this point may be too big for 147 and too small for 154. He has the movement and jab to compete at '54 but against a constant mover that's gonna zap all of his energy, despite all that he did very well against Trout in my opinion. Lara ain't a killer, and Cotto most certainly handles Molina, Angulo, Rosado. With the right game plan, if he can avoid Canelo's power for 3-4 rounds all while attacking the body, (and Cotto does have the superior foot speed) he can win, not saying he will but he can. I still have faith, it's all about whether or not he's willing to put in the work.

Cotto is a boss and true champion. He fought them all (never ducked anyone) and only came up short against what many consider ATGs. This is the one fighter who always showed up to win and never had any controversy (gifted decisions, PED allegations).
To compare him to Castillo is laughable. Show some respect!

I'm saying if you take into account both guys wins and most had Castillo beating Mayweather, it's got to be Castillo. If you take into account the first Mayweather fight, it's a land slide by Castillo.
Bazan lost a close rematch to Johnston if I remember right, than he was stopped by Castillo later. Lazcano was coming off stopping Johnston, and was the #1 ranked guy at 135 at the time. That was a pretty good win at the time.

Castillo has Johnston (#1 135), Lazcano (not amazing, but the guy was #1 at 135 at the time), Corrales, and Casamayor. That's 4 wins that are above average, and not to mention he arguably beat a prime Mayweather, the only guy to ever do so.
When you take all that into account, he's greater than Cotto. I'm sorry.

As far as Cotto/Castillo goes I give the slight edge to Castillo. The win over Johnson was huge (Johnson p4p at the time) Bazan, Lazcano, Julio, Casamayor, Corrales, arguably Mayweather
puts him over Cotto
who had Clottey, Margarito, Mosley, Quintana, Foreman, Malignaggi

Castillo more or less controlled the last 7 rounds of that fight. Even if you give Floyd the first 4 rounds, even 5, you could have Castillo winning. Can you really convincingly say Floyd took at least 2 of the last 7 rounds, because I can't, and I'm a huge Mayweather fan.
I scored that fight for Castillo, I'm not arguing that point, but people scored Cotto-Mosley for Mosley and I'll never understand how. Some fights are just that way. The way Floyd is hated is a big reason that's been made into such a big robbery IMO.

Stevie Johnston was severely underrated in terms of spotlight, Mayweather is one of the best fighters ever, Corrales and Casamayor both real good fighters.
Cotto had a shot to be the best at 140 or 154, but he's not. Who did he fight at 140 that was so impressive??? Who did he fight at 154 besides a smaller Mayweather who's not even a real 154 fighter, and than he lost a clear UD to Austin Trout, who's a pretty good and solid fighter.
Cotto had some tough fights at 147 with Mosley, Margarito, and Pacquiao. Than he fought a smaller Mayweather. Aside from those guys, he has a long list of mid level fighters.
Also, Castillo won his Lightweight titles against real title holders. The only title Cotto ever won over a real champion and Yuri f**king Foreman.
Cotto was severely drained towards the end of his 140 run and it showed, his run wasn't great, but when he moved to WW, he took on tough fight after tough fight. I just don't think Castillo's opponents are better than Cotto's.
Castillo may have won his titles against titleholders, Cotto defended his against better opponents. Also calling Floyd "small" doesn't change that he ran him closer than anyone has since Castillo and then he took a younger Guerrero to school in his next fight.

I'm not saying the guy sucks, he's a good fighter, one of the better fighters in his era. But you'd think the guy had some impressive resume given the hype he gets.
What's funny is I like Cotto fans......when they're not talking about Cotto.
