It's not about that, bro. Canelo is the future of boxing. Anybody with two eyes can see the fact that this kid is special. Some will choose to discredit it, some will choose to downplay it, others will embrace it, some will overhype it. It's boxing.

But to try and discredit a dude like Lara who's fought arguably the number 2 or 3 dude in his division and came off a convincing one-sided pummeling of one of the best welterweights in recent years as "overhyped" while trying to make a case for Canelo NOT being hyped is ridiculous. Outside of Cotto, no other name at 154 deserves a mention above Carlos Molina & Erislandy Lara. period. Not Kirkland, not Williams, not any of the other dudes that have been mentioned before and since.

You also don't have to be a genius to understand that if there is anybody who stylistically can give Canelo hell, it's Lara. Lara is a far better boxer, counterpuncher, faster, and BIGGER.

By any and all definitions, that is a duck by another name.
I don't believe Canelo is scared to fight anybody. But it's blatantly obvious he's a fighter that is being protected.

There's nothing special about Canelo except that chicks dig him and he's camera friendly. Canelo Cunningham is a fun fighter to watch but he's a good not great puncher and has average speed and defense. He's a good, solid guy for 21, but he's not even close to being one of boxing's ten best talents under 30. Heck, Kazuto Ioka has beaten better guys in ten fights than Canelo has in 41, with one fewer title fight.

The WBC might be able to manipulate him into some hollow belt at 160 eventually (There's got to be a Hatton at Lightweight who can come up the scale to fight for a vacant belt at Middle right?)

I disagree that Canelo is ducking Lara because in order to duck u have to turn down a fight that financially and career wise makes no sense to turn down.

Because his popularity and star power is being used to justify why he shouldn't/isn't fighting legitimate contenders in his division that don't have the same popularity. So the **** what if Lara/Trout/Molina/Rosado don't have the same star power, that doesn't mean he shouldn't fight them. I know, it's the business of boxing and it's always been this way. But it still doesn't make it acceptable. Canelo shouldn't be matched up with the likes of Ortiz when there are other 154lb contenders. Canelo/Ortiz would be an entertaining fight, but it's a matter of principal. Why fight a 147lber when there are 154lb fighters who are already in line? LMW has become stagnant.

This is MUCH different. A Lightweight (who peaked at Feather) picking his spot in coming after Welterweights is MUCH different than not fighting top ten guys in your own division. It's not even comparable.

It's black and white when the guy you are ducking is right below you in the rankings, g. Any day of the week. Especially when you are so evenly matched.

You and I both know that at the time if Marquez would have refused a bout with Berto, virtually nobody outside of pact**rds had Berto winning that. Marquez is head and shoulders above a guy like Berto, and showed so by getting a fight with Pac, like you mentioned.

This is not the case with Canelo & Lara.

In defense of Canelo, a little patience might be in order. Oscar was accused of ducking some toughies at 35 and 40 and got heat for not giving Pea a rematch before he went on a cash tour. Then, boom, Ike, Carr, Tito, Shane in four of five fights. I want to see Lara now, but I have faith that we will see Alvarez tough eventually no matter.

I mean, he was lined up for Williams. That wasn't going to be easy at all.

So what's the point of having division rankings?
