Pacquiao's resume hasn't improved since the 2nd Marquez fight
Manny Pacquiao's resume hasn't improved since 2009 !!

First off, This isn't about Floyd.Clottey only got the fight because he was Top Rank. If Floyd would have ever fought Clottey you would see how people REALLY feel about Clottey. CLottey has yet to win a fight since 2008 and that was vs Judah who had mentally lost it.
Margarito should have never happened. Mosley should have never happened. All the young guys like Berto, Ortiz, Bradley, Alexander could have improved his legacy. The problem was, they where all looking good at the time Pac was looking for a fighter to fight. Unlike Clottey, Margarito and Mosley. I really don't understand how people really think it improves his legacy. Again if Floyd had fought the same people at the same time, peoples true feelings would be revealed about them. They already did with Mosley but back tracked when Pac "selected" him... They will do the same about Ortiz too even though they have labeled him as a bum.
Since 2009, it's unjustified as to why Pac is a Top P4P fighter. Pac is still living off a 2009 CW win over Cotto.
Secondly, i agreed with the TS that Pacquiao's resume had not really improved since 09. I stated reasons as to why i didn't think it had improved but also reasons why some could argue that it has.
A fan can put a twist on to any fighter's opponents and either make it positive or negative.
Had Pacquiao fought the likes of Alexander and Bradley, he would of got accused of picking on smaller fighters. Those guys were and are still totally unproven at 147.
Ortiz didn't become a welterweight until this year so the same rule would of applied for Ortiz as the fighters above and Berto would of been a decent fight but he wasn't a big name at welterweight and was kinda unproven against top opposition.
At least Mosley, Clottey and Margarito are proven fighters who have all faced top opposition and had success.
I agreed that Mosley and Margarito fights were pointless though giving the circumstances i mentioned in my previous post( like Mosley being 0-1-1 in his last two fights and Margarito doing nothing significant in that year besides beating a journeymen fighter) and do very little towards his resume as will a possible win against Marquez this saturday.
Clottey is what i said he was.....a decent win, nothing more.Comment

Will you insert here_____________which 4 fighters Pac shoud fight instead of Clottey, Margarito, Mosley and JMM. Make sure these fighters will bring money to the fight and has a big chance of beating Pacquiao. When you put these fighters you must also consider their weight class related to Pac weight class, current status by the time Pac fought these fighters. Of course you should not include that coward. Now you must be realized Pac beat them all but for a lesser money low reward and they dont bring any challenge at all either they are undefeated or not. Now you must knock your head for making this nonsense thread.I was thinking about this the other day. Since the Cotto fight, Pacquiao has only fought over-the-hill/irrelevant fighters. Clottey, Margarito, Mosley and now JMM. These fights don't do anything for Manny's legacy.
It's kinda sad that Pacquiao is wasting his prime years on these meaningless fights. It has now been two years for crying out loud !!
Do you guys agree or do you think that Manny's resume did improve since the Cotto fight?Last edited by straightleft; 11-08-2011, 08:48 PM.Comment

@Bushbaby
I agree to an extent but at the same time who else do you fight. It is not like Manny was making excuses as to not fight this guy or the next. They said here fight this dude he does and wins. So I can not knock him for that while others have made it thier mission not fight certain people.Comment

I know you agreed and my point had everything to do with Floyd as I explained in the Mosley situation. Mayweather fights a fighter and he's an old bum, Pac fights the same guy a year later and he's dangerous. Doesn't make any sense. How can one be an old bum for one fighter but enhance another fighters legacy?First off, This isn't about Floyd.

I wasn't attacking, but agreeing with you without actually saying (as I look back and notice).
However, you can't say Alexander and Bradley where small when everyone says Pac is small. They are small but its not like he was having a hard time making 140, he could have fought at 140. Even at 147 they would have enhanced his resume more than the likes of Clottey, Margarito and Mosley WHEN Pac fought them. People seem to have a very difficult time with when and not who.
His most impressive win IMO in years was Cotto. I give him a lot of credit as I barley favored Cotto to win and was almost talked out of it by PULLCOUNTER who proved me wrong and called the fight perfectly if I remember correctly. There was other options that could have enhanced his legacy from 140-154 since 2009 yet we got what we got. Not legacy enhancing fights.
Sadly, that JMW title will possibly enhance something.... who knows.Last edited by WESS; 11-08-2011, 08:59 PM.Comment

Fighter of the Decade.
Awarded by the most qualified group to bestow such an award, the BWAA. That alone has assured Manny his place in boxing history.
At this point, if Floyd does not man up, there is nothing else to prove in boxing except to fatten the bank account.
Next up, become a governor in 2013, then on to who knows where after that.Comment

Mayweather fought Mosley after Mosleys KO victory against Antonio Margarito in the 9th round , in 2010 , and when Mosley fought Antonio Margarito , Mosley was the number 1 Welterweight in the world .
Bob Arum in 2009 : Bob Arum recommends Mayweather to fight Mosley
“The fight that should be made is Mayweather and Shane Mosley. But Mayweather won’t take that fight. He won’t take any fight where there is any possibility where he might lose. Money is secondary with him. He will not take a chance like a normal fighter. He cares more about his legacy and being able to retire undefeated, so he could say that he never lost a fight.I think Shane Mosley, because of his style, has the best chance to beat Mayweather.”
Pacquiao fought Mosley after his loss to Floyd Mayweather and the draw against Sergio Mora , Pacquiao was scared to fight Mosley before Mayweather he wanted to fight him at a Catchweight.
+ You are comparing Clottey and Ortiz but last time i checked Victor Ortiz was the WBC World Champion .
Don't you realize that from the time Mosley fought the brickless Margarito to the time he fought Floyd, Mosley went about 16 months without fighting?
That was asking too much from an aging Mosley ... plus Margarito was just caught with them bricks!
When Arum stated what he did (~8 months earlier?), he didn't know that Mosley would be inactive for so long and that by then he would be soon approaching 39 years of age!
Why you even comparing Clottey and Ortiz? Your Floyd won by SUCKER PUNCH! He deserves an asterisk next to that so called win! lol!Comment

I'm with you on this one. I cant blame him for cashing in on easy fights with big names who are far past their best days, but it sucks to see him waste whats left of his prime years on meaningless fights.I was thinking about this the other day. Since the Cotto fight, Pacquiao has only fought over-the-hill/irrelevant fighters. Clottey, Margarito, Mosley and now JMM. These fights don't do anything for Manny's legacy.

Why? Because after beating Cotto, he became the champion, and he's been defending his title after that.
In the case of Floyd, he wins a title from Baldomir, defends it against a LWW Hatton, retires and loses his title, fights 2 non-title fights, then picks on a weak champion in Ortiz. And viola! He fought more champions at WW.
Now, does anyone want to compare how many champions these two boxers have fought from the start of their professional careers?Comment
