Roach wants Mosley for Pacquiao at 142 pounds

MANILA, Philippines - Freddie Roach wants Shane Mosley for Manny Pacquiao but only if the WBA welterweight champion agrees to drop down to 142 pounds.

As of now, the answer from the aging but raging champion from Pomona, California, is a big no.

“Mosley fight is probably the most exciting because they both like to fight,” Pacquiao’s trainer, told David Avila of The Sweet Science in a recent interview.

Roach said Pacquiao couldn’t fight Mosley at 147 pounds because he may be too small for the 5-foot-9 champion by the time they climb the ring a day after the weigh-in.

Pacquiao weighed in at 142 pounds and climbed the ring at 148 1/2 for a welterweight fight with Oscar dela Hoya last December, then weighed in at 138 pounds and climbed the ring at 148 against Ricky Hatton two weeks ago.

The result was phenomenal as Pacquiao showed the quickness he had even when he was fighting at 126, 130 or 135 pounds, and the power even greater.

Roach wants the same formula for Pacquiao if ever he gets to face Mosley next.

“I have to protect my fighter. I spoke to Shane and told him that we would fight him at 142. He said he can’t make that weight,” Roach said from his Wild Card Gym in LA.

Mosley, according to The Sweet Science, “asked why not 147 as was set for De La Hoya at 147?” and Roach answered by saying, “Mosley is not De La Hoya in terms of setting a weight handicap.”

You tell me why he pushes me? What result does it have to do?
Inhouse Clottey Ok at 147 , has a history of having big problems making 147 .

Mosley coming of huge win ducked at 144 , Mosley looks shot now its ok to be 147 .

Cotto coming of terrible beating Roach states he is damaged goods !45 or no fight .

Ducks the title holder Foreman saying too big , fights shot Margo at 150 for a 154 title .

Now its the other way , Roach states Pac can make 140 easy ,,, JMM wants 140 , Roach wants 147 , JMM wants 140 , Roach states 144 or no fight , JMM says ok .

The point is why does he need to CW anyone , , from both sides of WW and even inside the WW division he Catch Weights them ,,,,, does it just for the fun of it right lol ,,, it matters and is effecting the result , by how much we will never know how the fights would have turned out without them ,

Im pretty sure the 160 ODH that stepped in the ring with Floyd would beat Pac , I reckon the 147 Cotto that fought Mosley would not have not got stopped and may have beat Pac ,, Margo was weight drained but a sloth anyway , but gee he would have been a lot stronger at 154 which was the title weight .

CWs have been around a log time but no fighter has made so much use of them as Pac has ,,,,,like I say if he is the P4P best what the *** does he need to CW them for ?

          • I'd rather believe guys like

Larry Merchant, Thomas Hauser and Al Bernstein who all believed that Pacquiao has improved a lot.

            Thanks for the analysis anyway.

            BTW

Manny Pacquiao is 32 years old. Many fighters are retired by that age. Some people must have thought that Manny's age isnt moving and he's 24

I dont see why anyone can not see Pac's improvement, before he was one handed fighter with a balance problem, now his right hand is as dangerous as his left and he has developed great foot work...

JMM is going up in weight , indirectly forced actually , even though by the rules he dont have too , why would he want to stay in touch with Pacs strength .

Because if he dont he will get steamrolled , so by being forced up in weight the offset is he will be slower , you getting the idea yet ,

You know an idea , maybe like , slow a counter puncher that usually gives a war when he is faster , did twice already LOL , slow him down and the odds are he dont a third time , he dont get of with the same speed and this fight aint the same deal as when these 2 fight under 140 .

Roach is very switched on to weight , did Roach or anyone else come out and say Pac would KO JMM in under 6 in either of the first fights ,, NO CW thats why .

So what this is not a catch-weight. What's your point? So now we taking away cuz' of having "BIG" problems making a weight that they campaign in?

So we bashing him for fighting catch-weight. But, yet he should have fought Mosley at a catch-weight? Sounds logical.

No he was coming off 2 victories.

He ducked Foreman? OK, I guess

What weight-class is Pac campaigning in?

The point is why does anyone need a catch-weight...Matter of fact who's the catch-weight benefits...Forget about Pac for a second, who does the catch-weight suppose to benefit?

                    ,

This absolutely makes no sense. How was Oscar 160 against Floyd but Cotto 147 against Mosley?

How was Margarito drained? Go ask Eaner if he was drained...Who's was part of that camp. Just because there's a catch-weight doesn't mean that fighter is drained. I'm not sure if you're an idiot or not. I don't think you're the most knowledgeable boxing guy out there. But, it's idiotic to think that a fighter is drained just because of a catch-weight.

Was B-Hop drained in all his catch-weight fights? Was Whitaker? Was Martinez?

                    B-Hop says hello.

This post shows how completely bias you are. And, just a pure hater. You making excuses and illogical statements. And, overall lack of knowledge.

aside from the right hand and foot work, I agree with this as he was counterpunching the counterpuncher ...
