This thread should be if Roy retired after the Ruiz fight. Either way Roy is my #1 pound for pound in modern boxing(last 40 years)

i remember roy in the dressing room for tarver I depicting in a category from 1-10 how he felt that night and saying 7

you can find reports with roy always complaining on the latter of his career how it was hard for him to get up for fights, and someone from his camp saying how he was getting lazy and stopped doing alot of the exercises like the neck exercises where you nod with a strap on your head attached to weights like mayweather does

his win over david telescope alone gets him in the top 10 atg. if he retired after tarver then he would be top 1

History would've remembered Roy avoided Calzaghe and forever questioned his legacy.

It wouldn't really mattered because he's already a Top 20 fighter right now anyways. Sure he didn't face other potential opponents but people will always remember him as unstoppable during his prime. His losses won't tarnish his legacy as far as I'm concerned. I just wished he retired on top after the Ruiz fight. It would have saved us from the painful memory of him getting KTFO.

RJJ is one of my all time favs, I just wish he can just hang those gloves already and accept that he has nothing left in him.

when did roy go out of his prime--it's excuses people--tarver was calling roy out for years before he fought ruiz---everything that happened with tarver and roy was roy's fault--i don't care who likes it or not--roy was in power--he was the established star, not tarver---didn't roy just trash clinton wood before ruiz--dominated ruiz, albeit, lost the weight, but didn't he beat tarver in the first fight---meaning, he had more ample amount of time to get back into the smaller weight class---

maybe it was just because tarver had his number in the 2nd fight--that's how i see it--you guys act as if roy has never been caught in his fights--debella knocked roy down--montell griffen was catching roy a lot in their first fight---

roy is human like anybody else--it wasn't his prime, it was his choices that cost him the 2nd fight----he had every oppurtunity to fight tarver before he went to heavyweight---
