Not saying Joe himself should stop fans from praising the fight. Saying good Joe fans should regard Joe and his abilities/achievements enough and understand the sport enough not to pretend this fight is something that it wasn't.
i think you are the one trying to pretend like it is something that it's not. think about it from that perspective.
let's see what joe calzaghe himself had to say about it "Connor was sobbing 'dad, he is amazing' and I tried to reassure him 'don't worry son, Jones isn't that good anymore.' -Joe Calzaghe
I think that's very fair.. But several things stand out.
- You can give him an A on performance, but that could still equal an utter dud in terms of adding to his resume.
- Is that really the sort of fight to end your career on? It sort of suggests Calzaghe considered that bout memorable or note worthy..
- A shot to **** RJJ knocking him down in the first round is a real blemish on the performance, and if anything a possible indicator of how a more game RJJ could have delivered.
It doesnt add to his resume really, more his bank balance. I dont think he really thought it was noteworthy, he wrote in his book that Roy was done. It was just a name he wanted on his resume i guess like Lewis with Tyson.
The KD doesnt really blemish it really especially since it wasnt even a legal punch.

that must be why he went all around town calling himself the legend killer.
I've seen a couple references to this fight today, and I was surprised to see that several posters actully hold this fight in somewhat of a high regard. So, how do you rate Joe Calzaghe's win over Roy Jones and why? Poll to follow, please discuss
That win means nothing. He beat an old out of his prime Jones & he still got dropped in the 1st round. He waited until Jones was a shell of what he used to be to finally come over to the states to face him, just like he waited to get to Hopkins when he was older too & he lost that fight in some peoples eyes.
Calzaghe was good but no way does he make it out of the first round when he got dropped by Jones if that was a prime Jones he was facing.
