and don't try to play that "oh im not trying to bash calzaghe", etc. that's exactly what you, and everyone else does who makes ten posts a day about "calzaghe being a euro bum" or whatever. he came, he saw, he conquered . . . he made hopkins eat his racist ass words, and he made roy eat all his ****iness over the years. BOOM. ass's whipped, thread closed. thanks

so, it is just as logical to say that calzaghe is the REASON he became shot, then it is to say "roy was shot going into the fight". IT IS WHAT IT IS - and what it is, is that calzaghe beat the mother****ing brakes off roy jones jr., and embarrassed him exponentially worse then he has ever embarrassed anyone else.
      - First off Jones had lost 3 of his last 6 fights. Two of which by brutal, brutal KO.

      - Second, one of those 3 wins was over a fat Tito Trinidad fighting at his highest weight ever for the first and only time. Who also hadn't fought in 3 years and was coming off a loss to a smaller fighter than Roy.

What part of those fights leading up to Joe Calzaghe told you that RJJ still had it?

damn dude, well you should start making the money lines for boxing fights then, cause it looks like about 80% of boxers, and 60% of professional sports writers from around the globe picked roy to win this fight. consensus going into this fight, from top boxing analysts was that "it is a 50/50 fight". maybe favoring calzaghe a little bit.

IMO a good Calzaghe fan wouldn't attempt to hold the torch for this fight as being indicative of Cal's greatness. I thought Joe was better than that.

I guess because many, many other fighters have came back from KO losses to do work. and the same reasons that everyone else (bert sugars of the world) thought he had a shot: speed, skill, ring generalship and one shot power - i think most people all believed roy still had enough to make it a competitive fight. Im not gonna lie, I thought that roy had a good chance. I guarantee a bunch of you guys did too at the time. Of course you will never admit it.

Dude, you're so angry. Calzaghe is a HOFer and an ATG at SMW. This is not about hating on Calzaghe. Just looking to hear NSB's pros and cons on that bout. You're one of a handful of people who genuninely liked this fight. If you like the fight, keep liking it.

haha yup - it's calzaghe's fault. anyway, i don't think anyone here said this was the fight that showed how great calzaghe is. i think his fight against hopkins did, coupled with the fact he blotted out the SMW belt like the persians blotted out the sun with their arrows, and like hopkins blotted out the MW belt for a decade and a fortnight. His complete domination and destruction of jeff lacy and roy jones certainly add to it, though.

Not saying Joe himself should stop fans from praising the fight. Saying good Joe fans should regard Joe and his abilities/achievements enough and understand the sport enough not to pretend this fight is something that it wasn't.
